UNDERGROUND TURRETS - Fixed ???
DIR By: Geoff1357

---------------------------------------------------------
In previous versions the Server has had to ban the use of
underground turrets and here is why...
I dig a hole deep underground and place a turret in it. The
turret has a range of (for example) 800m.
An enemy player approaches but the alterations to the terrain
that I made don't render for him until he is within 200m of my
hole. From 800m to 200m away from the turret the game thinks
that the turret is inside the earth so will keep shooting
through the ground all the while the player does not have the
ability to shoot back. Seems quite unfair and therefore
underground turrets were banned.
Hopefully the above makes sense...
What this has meant is that since people are not able to defend
their bases from underground, there was also the ban on the time
honoured tradition of tunneling into peoples bases. I think this
is now negated anyway by the anti griefing 'cant dig near enemy
base' thing anyway.
However:
I read somewhere recently in the Forum (ambiguous source:
HTML https://empyriononline.com/threads/underground-turrets-is-there-any-hope.20447/#post-178180<br
/>) that this may now be fixed... Can I please ask whether or
not
an admin can do some testing on this?
Thanks.
Geoff

Geoff,
Your description of the problem is spot on with regards to the
range of turrets, and the terrain not drawing until the 'player'
is close to it.
My understanding is that nothing has changed, therefore it is
not fixed, and so the rule still applies. I'll have a play with
it, and if I notice anything different will post it here.
Otherwise, the rule still stands in the interest of fair play.
Andy.

Thanks Andy,
if i was a betting man I would say definitely the underground
turrets will still be broken; and that that post that talks
about it being fixed is ambiguous at best.
Still, if it does need a test - happy to fly into range of
something and maybe die to find out either way.

From the 7.1 update notes (currently on experimental)
Gameplay:
- Turrets that are placed below terrain level do not shoot
anymore > fixes exploit with turrets hiding below terrain

I welcome the patch - hope it actually does fix that issue. The
whole "terrain not drawing fully" issue is annoying because even
at 40m/s in a SV the terrain can lag behind and suddenly you
find yourself flying into a mountain ......
Andy.
