Base turrets purposely placed below the surface
DIR By: moedeb27

---------------------------------------------------------
Please be aware that some players are using an exploit of the
game and placing turrets under the ground which allows the
turret to ignore the ground and fire at people through it.
This is the equivalent of [glow=red,2,300]cheating[/glow] and
most certainly is [glow=red,2,300]NOT[/glow] in the spirit in
which we have on Venatus - please remove those bases / turrets
ASAP. If you do not remove them the Admins will be removing them
for you along with any base attached and all its contents.
If you are found to be doing this again you will receive a
[glow=red,2,300]permanent ban[/glow] - we do not allow cheats on
Venatus.
Please play within the rules and spirit of the game and enjoy
the Venatus server along with everyone else.

Just curious if this affects placing turrets under / inside
bases to stop people mining into a base?
Cheers

If the turret is surrounded by base walls then it is fine, the
issue occurs when a tunnel is dig and the turret is left sitting
in the middle of it without any out walls or blocks around it.
Turrets can see walls/blocks and won't shoot through them.
So yes you can have turrets inside your underground/aboveground
base, just make sure it has got walls around it.

Cheers for the clarification Psycho!
BTW, I've asked moe previously but would like to share with
others and make sure all the admins agree:
1. What about regular player sentries protecting a tunnel
sitting on top of a block and clearly in sight?
2. What are some other methods we can protect a base externally
(read: outside of the base walls)?
Thanks guys!

Well, in PvE you don't need to protect your base at all once the
drone base has been destroyed. No more drones will ever appear
(much to my dissatisfaction!). In PvP, you can pretty well do
whatever you want, so long as the base can be neutralised, and
turrets are not 'under the level of the ground'. Now, if you
plant a turret and are happy with its location but it is half
hidden, or almost all hidden - just dig around it to expose it
to the air, then you're all good.
The turrets are not supposed to be able to shoot THROUGH
something. So if a turret is underground, it can shoot you if
you are behind a mountain because in theory it is already
underground and therefore not shooting THROUGH the ground ......
If you were to dig out around that very turret and expose it to
the air, then it would no longer be able to shoot through the
mountain because it will see the surface of the mountain as a
barrier. Hopefully this makes sense!
Andy.

The turrets of mine that brought all this to light, were exposed
to air inside a dug out tunnel, and they were still removed. I
have tested it extensively over the past few days on my test
server and you are correct, if they are exposed to air, they
will not shoot through the ground.
So now the question must be asked, since Andy has confirmed my
testing, why were my fortifications removed by an admin when
they were not glitching through anything? One of them was placed
inside a tunnel that someone else attempting to attack the base
had dug, as a bit of a surprise when they went back to the
tunnel. They were also completely able to be destroyed using
several methods. I designed them that way. So why were they
removed?
So lets say I hollow out a mountain, all the way to the lava.
I'm permitted to build an underground cave full of turrets, with
the cores buried in the lava as long as the turrets themselves
can be destroyed, and are exposed to air?

To make it crystal clear if the core or any of the other key
components (fuel tanks, generator) are placed into any position
that is actually impossible for another player to destroy then
they are illegal.
You can protect them as much as you like, but with persistence
and luck another player must be able to get to it to destroy it
or take it over.
If the core cannot be removed then no other player can access
constructors or cargo boxes, which gives the owner an unfair
advantage.

I am so confused right now. We can dig around the turrets as
long as they have walls?
Can we please get an updated top post explaining the glitch and
what we can do to avoid it.

Thank you for clarification. Seems to be some miscommunication,
since Moe is saying you cannot place the cores in invulnerable
positions , but Andy stated on another thread "It's pvp do what
you want, As long as the base can be neutralized". Which is
interpreted as "as long as the weapon systems can be destroyed,
do what you want". Apologies for dragging this crap out, but I
just want to be clear.
