RE: Voting

Reading the announcements, I gather the only reward for voting
is if you vote every day of the month. Is this correct? There is
no other incentive to vote?
Having just joined the server, it's too late for me to start
voting to receive the 'reward'. So there's no point in me voting
at all. Maybe i'll start voting next month.
Perhaps offering an additional incentive for each time you vote
would be a good idea?

We have never in the past offered an incentive to vote, not a
single one - unless you count providing an awesome server
completely free of charge ;D
We have been the number 1 server in the world for the past 3
months through our players simply wanting to say thank you for
providing the server and the service the Admins provide.
I for one am very proud of the fact that we are legitimately the
worlds number 1, having gotten there without ever needing to pay
for votes and I would think players like knowing that they are
also playing on the number 1 server.
I will not be offering an incentive every month and certainly
not a daily one, so if you want to vote then I say thank you
very much it is really nice of you to show your appreciation in
that way, but if you don't want to, then I still say thank you
for playing with Venatus.

The culture is shifting Moe. I wonder if anyone else has noticed
it.
I am grateful for;
- the generous provision of a free server by Moedeb
- admins helping players in-game
- admins keeping up to date with releases
- the creativity of admins in creating playfields and features
- datristan for providing an awesome faction
- the players that are always quick to jump in and help new and
seasoned players whenever they get in trouble
- the developers for creating this wonderful entertainment
- and all other players that treat each other with respect
Yours sincerely, ELP

Yes I would agree to culture has had a small shift, but I
believe to the most part the majority of the seasoned and new
players still have the same attitude.
The new players definitely pick up the attitudes of our longer
term players, based on the help and respect they receive.
Thanks for the kind and appreciative words ELP ;D

This days people want some reward even for saying "Thank you"
;).
As a long time player (more than 20 years) who just come on this
server I want to say:
This is FIRST server I play where moders actually run around
like some emergency serves to make sure EVERYONE is ok. Well
done, guys and thanks for your hard work!!

I just thought I would chip in a bit of info for you all......
Moedeb27 and I had been playing this game on a server for a
while (back in late 2015), and after several resets just
happened to start off not far from each other, so we teamed up.
We did not know each other inside the game, our outside the game
prior to that. We continued to play as a team on that server for
a while, and because we had played for a while and we had been
forced to start again quite a few times we didn't find it hard
to get everything we needed relatively quickly. Since we had
pretty much achieved everything we wanted to in the game, as
regular players, we began helping other players to get
established, and offer rides, and assistance in other areas etc.
We started to become frustrated with random resets and other
issues (which I have forgotten now), and so it was Moedeb27's
idea to create our own server where we could actually have
control over our universe, and maybe even have our own players
one day.
As such, Venatus Australia was born. I can't remember when it
was first setup, but it was pretty early 2016 from memory. Since
then we have continued to play the game as players, but we have
also spent a lot of time learning how the game actually works
behind the scenes as it has developed. Let me tell you, there is
very little documentation on anything with this game – so much
of what we have learnt has been from hours and hours of trial
and error in our own local games that we can then transfer over
to the server.
Initially when Venatus Australia was up and running there were
very few users online, and quite often it was just the two of
us. The game had so many bugs in its early days of multi-player,
with no real documentation on how to fix things. In order to
assist people to the level we wanted to, we had to pour hours
into understanding how things work, only to have things change
when patches and updates were released. Gradually we noticed
more players joining and playing on our server, which we
attributed to the fact that we were generally around to assist
and were pretty active compared to other servers we had played
on. The game actually had a limit of 15 players and over the
months this was filling up to the point where we were quite
often full and unable to login ourselves. We even had to change
server hosts a couple of times in order to get better hardware
to be able to run a server with more players available (as the
game limit had also increased as optimisation patches were
released). As our knowledge increased we started to make our own
planets, and one day when we were forced to do a server wipe due
to a patch update, we decided to implement our own 100% custom
universe utilising our own planets we had created.
The players kept coming, our knowledge kept building, we spent
more time online helping them, developing, designing, expanding
etc. For this to all occur, Moedeb27 and I were spending several
hours per day (most days) keeping everything running the way we
wanted to. We had so many players online we were having issues
with CPU and RAM usage from our server hosts. As a result, we
are now operating on hardware superior to what we have had
previously (kindly provided, setup, and maintained by two of our
New Zealand players – PsychokineticNZ and Simpletech). We have
needed to expand our max players to 64 to deal with the peak
playing times, and we have had that full also on a few
occasions. We are the no.1 server according to the Empyrion
Server List that you can see in the voting thread.
So that sums up how Venatus Australia got to be where it is
today.
We now have 5 admins, and each admin on here has had their own
share of making the server what it is today, and can speak for
themselves if they would like to add anything.
Speaking just from my own perspective - I have spent hundreds
and hundreds of hours performing administration work on the
server. As a result, I have gradually gone from being majority a
player (back in the early days) to majority an admin, now. As
the regular players would know, there is frequently something
for an admin to help with (assisting players, resolving
server/game glitches, fixing playfields, resetting POIs, finding
lost items, working out why something that should be working is
not, finding bugs in patch updates, you name it!) I have never
earnt any money from doing this, what has effectively amounted
to being a second job, part time. I do this because I choose to
- I enjoy the game, and my mission is to help create and
maintain an awesome server that is different to the rest, and
challenging, for our players to enjoy and be part of. To have a
server that is full of players is the satisfaction I get from
helping get this server to where it is now. I think one of the
main reasons we are as popular as we are, is due to the amount
of time the admins are collectively online and available to
assist players and fix issues.
So, yes, we would appreciate if you could vote for us, without
even thinking of getting a reward of some kind for it. Think of
it as a thanks to us for putting all this time and effort in so
that you can find some enjoyment to have. Players draw players.
It is more fun to be on a server with lots of players. The more
you vote, the more popular we stay, and hopefully the more
players we draw, so the more fun you have.
I would also like to thank our regular players. You guys help to
make this popular simply by playing, and helping other new
people out. At the end of the day, "gamers just wanna have
fu-un".
Andy.

Why do we need to vote via steam now?
I saw no explanation for this anywhere.

We weren't offered an explanation either, however there was a
server that was obviously using unfair / cheating to get extra
votes, so my guess is it was done to try and ensure the votes
were more likely to be authentic.

I noticed the steam login thing too. Sorry I didn't vote while I
was away, back to voting again.
Thanks again Moe, Andy and the other admins for all the time and
effort you guys have put in.

Andy,
That 13 January post above is my favourite post on the entire
Forum.
As any community grows, the challenges change - especially when
it comes to Policy & Law.
I hope, in a small way, I've been able to alleviate some of the
load by keeping the cultural integrity continuing.
In this respect I'd like to also thank the non-Admins like
Murder Boner, datristan, SteveWesleySmith, tokens and everyone
in 0IN faction that have personally helped me in the game.
Peace and love, ELP
