       Winter projects

       From Rick Walker:
Fellow car buffs, I'm trying this out to see if it works. How
are your winter projects coming along? I started painting the
engine lower shelves, and ordered a new quart of Hirsch Packard
green engine paint but had to stop work as the temp in the
garage has to be 60 degrees. Had painted it 25 years ago in Avon
garage. Hopefully back at it in March...
FYI: Now fully retired and working on various writings, long
       deferred.

       From Robert Scalla:
       HI Rick,
Yesterday I removed the water temp/oil press gauge from the
Austin Healey, so I can send it out for repair. It has a flexi
temp line that runs out to the front of the engine and is
difficult to get off. I had to make a special tool to get the
end off. I had to remove the radiator and fan blades to make
room to get at it. Tomorrow I plan to remove the hard oil line
at the back of the gauge and then actually remove it from the
dash. While things are apart, I'll repaint the fan blades
yellow, clean up the front of the block and anything else I see
and can do while it is apart. I'll check the hoses and belt,
flush the radiator and replace the coolant with new plus a water
       wetter additive.
       You asked.
       Robert

       From Steve Reed:
Hi Rick. Thanks for the update. I will also share with the
       Club:
       1. The original 66 GTO brass radiator has been re-cored and I
will install it soon. Easy job in my garage.
       2. The 32 Hot Rod had the gas tank removed and the insides
cleaned and coated with a special sealant that doesn't flake
       off.
I will reinstall it when I feel like it. No rush. But I would
prefer a 50 degree day to have the barn doors open when doing
       it.
       3. Janet's 30 Panel Delivery had a noisy water pump and
replacement is coming soon. Also an easy job.
       That's all for now.
       Anyone else care to share?

It’s time to get going on my winter projects too. I’ll start
with doing a timing belt job in my Subaru next week; probably do
an ignition system service and change the brake fluid while I’m
at it. Good for another 100K miles.
Next will be new rear spring perches on the C10 to lower the
rear end another 2 inches. Also going to install a wide band
air/fuel meter to help fine tune the carburetor.
When that’s done, the Olds needs some exhaust work and I’ll
install the new shock absorbers that have been on the shelf for
       three years.
