It was an anti-party and anti-union movement that rejected
political representation. The movement against the pension law
is more conventionally on the left, since it regroups to a large
extent unionized workers who have the support of the population.
If unions and protesters had defeated Macron's bill, this could
have boosted a declining left . However, the passage of the law
may further increase popular anger and resentment. These
feelings tend to fuel violence and individualism.
A recent opinion poll showed that, in the Phone Number List

of early elections, only the far-right
Rassemblement National (RN) party would gain electoral benefits
. Macron's party, but also the New Popular Ecological and Social
Union (NUPES), which expresses a left that has united (it has
145 deputies), could lose votes. Many French people will feel
that they have been ignored and lied to. This is exactly what
exacerbates an anti-elite discourse, which always ends up
       strengthening the populist extreme right.

President Macron's estrangement and authoritarian handling of
the situation, as well as Prime Minister Borne's brittle
technocracy, have left France on the brink of the abyss. This
time it is Macron, and not the "yellow vests", who shows
contempt for political representation. Indeed, throughout the
debates on the pension reform, he has openly disqualified the
unions, the protesters and the opposition deputies. Marine Le
Pen, a quiet opponent of the bill, seems happy to add fuel to
the fire by pointing out that the French " have been ripped off"
       by Macron's reform.
