Re: Some Coyotes So Far

Well this morning I saw 6 deer (does), 8-9 turkeys, and one
coyote all as i was walking to my stand. The coyote was over 250
yards and i didnt have much time so i decided to keep on towards
my stand. I tried to call him to the stand but all i saw the
entire rest of the day was about a million squirrels. The wind
was NOT in my favor..
Rookie mistake. Live and learn i guess.. Im now headed home to
make some shooting sticks before work so i wont be so unprepared
the next time!

Sounds like you got to the stand way to late if you could see a
coyote 250 yards away. You did right by not shooting. Once you
started calling...if no dogs show up after 20 minutes....stop
calling and move at least 1\2 and make another stand. If you
think there may be bobcats in the area...you may have to keep
calling up to 1 hour for it to respond. Good idea on the
shooting sticks....crucial for making good accurate shots. Hang
in there dude. Show up a pic of your sticks when finished.

:o Boy those are some DARK looking coyotes. Are they always
that color? We have VERY light almost white blond dogs here . We
have 7 so far and the badger in the fur freezer, sorry no pics.
hope to have a wolf pic this week end.
Very nice killing Yote59 :-*

All the yotes in my area are dark like these. One in particular
is a spotted color (brown, black, and gray). Seen him once, and
have yet to get a shot.

You hang in there and not get discouraged. Good idea to make
some sticks for when you are in the stand, as well as for the
walk to and from.

Hey fella's this may be the wrong place to post this, so forgive
me if it is... but here are a few pics of the shooting stix I
fabricated this afternoon.
I used two 48" pieces of wood drilled out and put together with
a simple bolt, a couple washers, and a wing nut for easy
tightening and loosening on the go. I bought the bolt about 1/2"
long so i could add a locknut, because i had a strong suspicion
I would lose that wing nut sooner or later. haha ;D I topped
it off with a little camo duct tape and boom she's ready to go!
I'm going to add a strap for easy transport and may possibly
bevel the bottom ends for better grip.
lmk what ya think! Thanks!
