Re: NC Judge stops coyote night hunting

Jon, Limit hunting in those counties with the wolf habitat was
what I said in my first post. I guess the judge believes in mass
punishment. If enough complaints roll into the fish and game
office, that may give you guys a leg up. Let the fish and game
guys set the limits and the boundries. Best of luck to you in
any case and I hope it works out in your favor. DL
hunting to reduce coyote numbers only redistributes the
coyote to other areas
well that's interesting... in that case, the judge should have
restricted coyote hunting to only the counties that contain red
wolves, in order to force them into areas that do not contain
red wolves. and make it illegal to hunt coyotes in adjacent
counties to the areas where red wolves are established, so that
they are not redistributed into those areas.
all in order to reduce the percentage of hybridization, which is
the cause of the near extinction of the red wolf.
makes sense to me.

unfortunately the fish and game guys, who are on our side, are
the ones whom the lawsuit is against.
i see now that you originally stated that hunting should be
restricted in the red wolf counties, which is what the judge has
unilaterally imposed on the north carolina fish and wildlife
service, however, that runs counter to the logic of your second
statement that coyote hunting merely moves the coyotes from the
pressured areas into the non-pressured areas where the red
wolves live.
by your second argument, it makes more sense to push the coyotes
out of red wolf habitat than into red wolf habitat.
unfortunately for the red wolf, the judge has ordered that
coyotes be pushed into red wolf habitat.

I just try to look at it from different views. I do hope they
correct this issue for you. Peace. DL
