Before going to the .22-250 my go to varmit gun was a Win mod 70
in .243. Handloading the 58 gr V max at 3700fps did the job very
well. It was topped with a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5x20x50,
excellent scope for the money. Added a Harris bipod to complete
the rig.

I enjoy the 223 and the 250, but the Hmr with the 20 gr
gamepoint will put a smack on critters up to 40 lbs. The rimfire
classes have transitions a ways in the past 10 yrs. I think
Hornady could manufacture a 23 gr bully. The MV would decrease
to about 2100 f/s but it would be an awesome addition to the HMR
family. With the 22 MAG, CCI has the 30 gr while Winny runs the
45 gr dynapoint and then you have all the rounds in between. The
mag has cover the spectrum from small game to large vermin. If
you don't own either of these rifle, I would recommend adding
one especially if you live in an area where your shooting lanes
are limited(<100) yrds and you don't want alot of noise.

I have a blr in 223 but I am not real confident in it's
accuracy...now my A Bolt in 243 is quite another matter...that
thing is a tack driver...the two coyotes I have taken with it I
used my deer bullet...a 95 gr NBT and they did not move...I am
looking at getting some 58 gr to see if the rifle likes them
and, if so, that will be the bullet of choice for future
coyotes, fox and, hopefully, bobcats...
Cheers/bg

I am there with you on the .17HMR. I love mine....and a 23 gr.
ballistic tip would be a slobber knocker ;D for small game. I
have taken one coyote at 160 yards with a 17 gr. Actually the
only one I ever shot at with the .17HMR.

The .243 is an excellent round for predators up to whitetails.
Flat shooting and lots of knockdown energy. What seems to be
the problem with the .223?

My favourite has to be the 6.5x47 with 140 amax. superb long
range varmint cartridge.
