I'm thinking new rifle

HUMMM !
I know there is lots of "ducken" to do and the kids have some
more tags to fill, and then there is that pesky wolf thing
poking me in the butt.
My thoughts turned to "COYOTES" which in turn turned to how many
pelts we'll get. That makes me wonder what I'll Spend my cut on.
Last year we tried to get a 4 wheeler, didn't work one of our
crappiest years... This year we are not putting that kind of
pressure on our selves. We will just try to cover gas and split
the rest if any. All that said I started dreaming about some
kind of new gun for me. I'd kill for some kind of "English
Double" But If I could do that I'd get a UTV. A big bore like a
416 ruger sounds cool or a 460 SW hand howitzer. I have the
45/70 , 270, 25/06/,243,2/250,223, and 4-22 long rifle, 3- 12
gauges, a 20 and a 410.
Maybe something like a 338 or 264 ???
I don't want to much of a wild cat so a 17/243 is a no.
I'm thinking I like speed, so maybe some thing I the 260'ish?
But I like'm big too. Just dreaming and thinking, and around
$700. If you had to dream what would you be dreaming about?
Realistically

$700 can go a ways. As for adding to your current stable (which
pretty well has everything covered) I would suggest a 338 RUM
for the following reasons: Factory round, you should be able to
pick up a used one reasonably priced, excellent external
ballistics that can be enhanced by reaming to an edge if you
desire a little more of a good thing in the future (I built an
edge and love it, but wonder if the RUM wouldn't have worked
just as well and been less costly), great bullet selection,
several configurations of stocks and barrel contours made to
cover what ever style of gun you would like. If that is bigger
than you were thinking there is the 338-06 though a little
harder to come by still factory round, and looks like it would
complement your selection as well. As for going smaller I just
got rid of my 17 hornet, and though it is a nice round, I just
did not seem to grab it, and a friend "had to have it" but it
was short light fun and quiet. Though it has not been out long
and platforms are limited a new one would fit your budget.
Similar ballistics to a 223 out to about 200 ish yards, and a
great fit between your 22 lr and 223. Also you could consider
doubling down on a caliber you have in a different configuration
(go heavier, or lighter / longer or shorter etc) would save on
dies and component costs. Those would be my recommendations, but
since I build my own my dreams get a little different as I could
rebarrel one I was not shooting much to just about anything that
tickled my fancy for your budget including a reamer barrel dies
and loading components, current projects include an ultralight
280AI, and a .458 Lott along with a 8 twist 6mmAI and a 31 inch
tube. It is nice to only have to pay for parts when you can do
the labor yourself ;D .

Kinda between a 338 of some kind or a 6mm rem or 6MMx06. Now all
I need is the 100 coyotes and I'M in ....

If you have narrowed it down to those 3 .338, 6mm, or 6mm-06. As
bad as I hate to say it (I have a real soft spot for the 6mm
Rem) I would go with a 6mm-06. I threaten myself to build one
every time I get a 6mm blank in my hand. What .338's are you
looking at? Also what are you looking to use the rifle for? It
would help to make a recommendation if a purpose or 2 were
known, otherwise it is more looking for holes in your current
selection to squeeze a new caliber in, and recommend personal
favorites. Which is fun too.

I just knew it was this. If anyone has a question I can answer
it. Maybe I will know some things.
