I'd be curious to hear some input from guys on here that have
hunted varmints at night. I would think it would be pretty hairy
in the dark. Not that I'm scared...... :-\

Can already do it here in Va. Fox, coon and possum are pretty
common to shoot at. Got to use an amber light though. Get caught
spotting with white light, your going to jail.

The amber light vs. white light.....good question. Guess I need
to look into specifics when it passes. I am pumped like a kid
       at christmas.

::) The only thing we can hunt at night is fox, raccoon, and
coyote. We do it a lot but I hate it. It's very difficult. In
the snow and winter you cant see to walk, and driving is the
pits. Then there is nothing colder then sitting in the dark and
wind in a snow drift waiting for a coyote eyes to appear !
White light works for coyotes that have not been called at
night, You need to go to red or green if they get called a lot.
NEVER put the light directly on them or they'll run and NEVER
accidently light up your partner. We find it easer to have one
person run the light and one be the shooter. You don't want the
       light on your gun...

Thanks for the info PB. I've coon hunted at night with dogs but
that's the extent of my experience. Good to have guys on here to
guide us rookies into the transition. Your weather probably
makes it more difficult than what we have here. We seldom get
enough snow here in this part of Kentucky to effect anything.
When we do it's a mind blowing experience just watching people
trying to drive on it. Thank God for four wheel drive. ;)

Some good advice Prairie Blaster. This ole boy won't be hunting
in a blowing snow....that's when I hit the recliner. Early
Spring and late Fall I feel will be the best night hunting for
       me personally.

I would like to try that type of hunt once just to say that I
did it. Something about that challenge of who will prevail, man
       or beast..
