Savage Model 25 Rebarrel
By: weird1 Date: December 31, 2012, 8:38 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Any other home gunsmiths out there? This last November Texas
made it legal to hunt with a suppressor. That prompted me to
build a barrel for my new Savage 25 in 17 hornet. I have not
decided to get the suppressor or not and this is not what the
thread is about. It is about building a 300 AAC on this little
action, out of parts laying around from other builds.
I have a 30-06 barrel off of a Remington 721 I bought for a
switch barrel build I did a few months ago. I will be whittling
the 30-06 barrel down to 16.5 inches and threading for the
Savage action. I will have to buy a reamer, a bolt head, and a
magazine. I plan to build a 5.7x28 setup for this action as
well. PTG is tooling up to make bolt heads so I will be getting
the barrel fit to the action. Pics to follow.
Any thoughts on smacking a coyote, or a raccoon with a 200 grn
soft point moving about 1000fps?

Would make a heck of a short range gun. Should stay + 1.5" mid
on a 75 yrd zero and a +4.5" mid rise on a 100 yrd zero.
Probably looking at about 440-450ft-lbs at the muzzle. I based
it off a .4 BC. Would be interesting to see how it works for
you. Best of luck with it.

Well the 30-06 barrel contour would not allow the chamber to
clean up and fit the barrel to the action. >:( I need to
find a varmint or sendero contour.

Check this out $52 I have built blackout AR barrels using these
and they are decent. NOT benchrest quality but beter than most
factory barrels.
