       Successful Calm Morning Hunt 12/30/12
       By: KyleM127 Date: December 30, 2012, 1:49 pm

I found out that a local farmer has lost 3-4 calves lately to
coyotes, so it was time for revenge. Not only did he give us
permission, but he was excited to hear that we were coming to
help. After looking at the weather last night i knew i had to
       hunt this morning..
I woke up this morning to a nearly full moon, 21-22 degree
weather, a frost/snow patches, and 2mph winds. I was excited to
say the least. A good buddy of mine & I set up on top of a small
hill, hidden under a few big branches of a cedar tree. It was a
beautiful morning and perfect for yotes. Directly ahead of us
there was a about 200 yards of pasture peppered with cedar
trees. Beyond the pasture in the front and to the right was
woods and rolling hills. I started out with a light coyote howl
on the icotec gc300 e-caller. No reply.. I waited, then lightly
played a cottontail distress and threw in a group coyote light
howl/bark at the same time. After about 15-20 minutes something
caught my eye. I whispered to my buddy and got my sights near
the yote. I hit the call lightly once again and he took off
after it. Right as i was about to whistle, he stopped at around
45-50yrds looking nearly directly towards me. The Savage .243
with the 80gr winchesters set him back on his butt, then to the
ground. We sat for another 20 minutes and hit the pup distress
but if he had a partner, he wouldn't show his face. Weighed in @
almost exactly 40lbs... A really nice dog for this area.
We moved to another farm across town and called in two more but
didn't have a shot on them... Great to know they are responding
       though!! Their days are numbered.
The farmer was tickled to death to see our kill and asked us to
come back as soon as we could... Nothin better than huntin and
helpin a neighbor at the same time!!

Great looking dog KyleM127....looks like he was eating well. No
doubt the .243 pulled a slobber knocker on him. Very chilly
morning indeed...perfect to hunt. Good to know you got you one.
Thanks for the pic and many more to come.
