Sunday Evening Coyote Set
By: Yote59 Date: December 18, 2012, 8:32 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Changed tactics Sunday as a result of the last 3 sets earlier in
the week turned out empty. I decided to give the song dogs an
opportunity to stay in cover when reacting to the call. Other
sets required them to at least poke a head out of cover...which
has been very successful in the past. So I set up in the woods
about 200 hundred yards from a deep ravine covered with thick
brush and cedars. There were pasture fields on either side of
me about 75 yards out. Hoping they would feel a bit safer with
the opportunity to stay in the woods when reacting, I begin
calling with a soft mouse squeak followed by some cottontail
distress....slowly increasing volume after each 30 sec.
sequence. The only thing that reacted were two gray squirrels
that proceeded to sounds the alarm that to me was saying it's a
trick...it's a trick. Needless to say after 30 mins. of
this....I tucked tail and made my way back to the truck.
Another empty haul..... :'( :'( :'( :'( I hope the pic gives
you an idea of the set layout. Longest shot would have been
about 80 yards.

Good call DL. Sets in thickets can result in some up close and
personel encounters. I use my 935 Mossberg with 00 buck to open
things up a little. :)

Well....if I had any reaction in that area from the yotes....I
may have chopped out a few lanes......nothing showed.
