Mission-09-Angel's of Mercy
By: Kira Phaserman Date: August 9, 2014, 8:41 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Kira stood looking at the picture on her night stand. It had
been two months since his death. Since she had lost her husband
to the Banor. The war was finally over. Small skirmishes still
happened here or there but for the most part Starfleet was left
licking their wounds. 798,457 deaths was the final count leaving
Starfleets numbers depleted. Families had been torn apart. Lela
was pregnant but she and Danny seemed to be calling it quits.
Jazmyn and Praxis were also seperated which tugged at her heart
strings. Danny had left to go assist his brother with the
rebuild of the Lima Fleet Marines. Which meant a new Marine CO
would be assigned. Lela, Jazmyn, and Jenna had returned. Baj was
on temporary leave with his wife and their twins. Kira was left
to deal with the death of her husband and her youngest child of
6. The funeral had been beautiful, it had been a celebration of
life.
Pulling on her uniform she checked in with the Nanny that John
was alright and headed for the bridge taking the back route into
her Ready room she wasn't ready to face people yet.

STARFLEET COMMAND AUTHORITY [URGENT PRIORITY]
From: CMD
To: Marine Officer Rodge W. Miller
SUBJECT: Reassignment
//Due to the nature of the aftermath of the Bajor War, we are
reorganizating all remaining resources and officers to fit for
critical points of specalized ships and/or ships who possess
special tasks.
Therefor, to Marine Officer, Rodge W. Miller, you are hearby
selected for Immediate reassignment from the USS Valkyre Sword
of Echo Fleet to USS Veroto of Lima Fleet
Reassignment is effective Immediately and is not negotiable
unless noted otherwise.
Were on our knees right now...just bear with us until were able
bind all of our wounds.//
//
Admiral Milton D. Dehashi
Starfleet Command Authority
----
Rodge sighed as he tossed the padd into the seat next to him on
the shuttle. Someone would be a fool if they said the Bajor war
didn't take it's toll. The Federation was bleeding out on nearly
all sides and these last few months, they've only started to
rise back to their knees. Alpha Fleet was in shambles, but were
struggling to reorganize...Bravo fleet had fallen under the
pressure and collasped, sending a large number of officers,
marines and crewmen who had surivived back to Earth in ether one
piece or half minded. Echo Fleet fought hard along side Alpha,
but still experienced hard losses. However, no loss was greater
than Lima Fleet.
Seeing how Command Authority was setting up, they were splicing
some of Echo resources between Alpha and Lima to help rebuild.
Here, Rodge was be sent to Lima's Flagship, the USS Veroto. He
only heard stories about the lives lost onboard of Lima's many
ships, including the Veroto. However, heard their Marine CO had
returned to Lima HQ to help restore the marines and in turn,
Command decided to have Rodge head there in his place.
"Were arriving sir." The shuttle pilot announced as he pulled
closer to the view of the docked Veroto.
A security checkpoint here, a walk from the port there, Rodge
found himself standing before the gate to enter the Veroto. He
took a slightly quivered breath before stepping on. He had no
idea what this ship had lost...and he wasn't ready to find out
the hard way.

By: Lela Hardfighter Date: August 9, 2014, 10:20 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Lela hefted her bag. She had loved SM1 but at the same time she
was glad to be home. She would still be a Marine but serving as
the temporary Chief Engineer until her dad came back from leave.
Her transfer had come after the new that she was expecting. She
needed something less stressful and dangerous. Danny wasn't
happy with her. They had been fighting constantly. She decided
it was time for a break. She was kinda glad he had transferred
to Leatherneck. Lela would also assume the 2nd in command of the
Marines which would be her permanent position when her father
returned she was nervous about meeting the new Marine CO.
She headed for her quarters, they would be the same ones she had
Danny had shared before, most of her stuff was still there. She
dropped her bag and decided to head to engineering to check on
the repairs.
When she entered she was dismayed to find that it was in a huge
state of disrepair her father would be highly upset if he was
here but he wasn't they were on Bajor. Lela found the person who
looked to be in charge.
"Can I help you Marine?" the woman asked curtly.
"Marine Captain Lela Hardfighter, temporary Chief Engineer. I
need a report on what is being repaired" she said looking around
trying to decide where to start.
"Look Captain, you're a marine what the hell do you know about
engines go back and play with your guns." the woman said.
"I helped design and build this ship my father is the chief
engineer and my mother is the commanding officer if you have an
issue with me take it up with Flee Admiral Kira Phaserman
because she assigned me here. Now report"
The woman stopped and looked her over. "Engines are offline,
cloak is disabled, most of the systems are down except life
support and environmental controls the last fight really did a
number on us."
"Alright I want a staff meeting in 30 minutes so we can
prioritize."
"Yes ma'am" the woman said rolling her eyes.

Jazmyn sensed her mother, she could always sense when she was
around even though she had no psychic abilities of her own. She
walked over to the ready room and rang the chime.
"Enter" Kira called.
Jazmyn entered and walked over to her mother. "Hey Mom" she said
looking her over.
"Jazzy, look at you. How is Alexis?"
"Good good settling in." she sat across from her adoptive
mother.
"How is Praxis?" Kira asked sensing her daughters emotional
turmoil.
"He is, we are... separated."
"Lela and Danny are as well." Kira frowned.
"Well I am here, your wonderful mission adviser/diplomat" Jazmyn
said smiling a little.
"Good Good, It will be nice to have 4 of my children on one
ship" she said leaning back and looking at the picture of Gary
on her desk.
"Keeping the Phaserman name or going back to Maru?" Jazzy asked.
"Keeping it for now we will see." Kira said sullenly.
"I love you mom if you need anything, let me know" Jazmyn got up
walked around her mothers desk and hugged her tightly.
"I will baby, I love you too." Kira returned the hug. She
watched Jazmyn leave the room and frowned.

ON:
Bridge - Commodore Frost's Quarters |
U.S.S. Veroto-A
Jenna looked over at Isabella at 8 months old the child sat
playing on the carpet with a few of her toys. Jenna was just
finishing up dinner. She had talked to Kira and knew he would be
getting off duty soon.
Joseph had finished up the daily reports and stood from the
Captain's Chair. He stretched some as beta shift came up and
nodded to the one taking over. Heading for the turbolift he
rubbed the back of his head, a bit tired as he ordered for his
quarters. A few moments later the turbolift stopped and opened
up. His tail twitched a little as he walked, a sign that he was
tired and needed some sleep. Upon making it to his quarters, he
hit the unlock code and stepped in, undoing the top of his
uniform tunic and yawning loudly.
Jenna smiled when she heard him enter she picked up Isabella
and hurried over to the door. "Hello Honey" Jenna smiled.
He had been rubbing his face when he heard the voice, along
with a little girl giggling a bit. Wishing and hoping that this
wasn't a dream, Joseph slowly pulled his hand away from his face
and opened his eyes. Seeing her standing there with their
daughter, his face lit up like a christmas tree. He smiled
widely and spoke "Oh god... Your home!" starting to move close
to her "Please tell me I am not still on the bridge asleep and
dreaming..."
"You're not dreaming baby, we are home to stay" Jenna grinned
and embraced him balancing Izzy on one hip.
Joseph wrapped his arms around her tightly, burying his face in
her neck and inhaling her scent. The past few months had been
hell, worse still without having her there. He sighed softly as
his tail came up and wrapped around her waist "Thank god..."
slowly he pulled back and smiled "Hello baby girl.." smiling as
he reached up to touch her cheek.
"Dada" Izzy squealed. "Kira had me transfered back, it seems
shes had a lot of family transfered to the ship she wants us all
close by. I will be heading up the Special Intelligance
Taskforce and taking up the Chief intel position on the ship."
Joseph smiled and bent down some, kissing his little girls
cheeks softly. He then stood back up and spoke "She can talk..
When did that happen?" looking up in to his wifes eyes. He
sighed softly and nodded "Yeah.. After everything that
happened... I just.. I don't know babe.." she could see that it
had been rough. He had barely even shaven the past few days,
having grown quite a bit of stubble. He leaned forward and
pressed his forehead against hers gently, letting his ears touch
her head "I am so glad you are home baby..."
"I'm glad to be home. As for her talking, she picks up words
like a little sponge" Jenna stepped back and walked Izzy over to
her play area setting her down the little one sat watching her
parents intently. "She sits and crawls, working on the walking
I'm sorry you've missed so much." Jenna said turning back to her
husband and embracing him again. She kissed his lips, his jaw,
his cheeks. "I've missed you so much"
He kissed her back softly each time and rubbed her back gently.
Joseph started lightly nipping her neck and ears softly as he
whispered "I've more than missed you Jenna... I haven't slept a
full night since you've left..." licking her lips lightly as he
stood with her.
"mmm we will change that tonight but right now you need to
behave yourself there is a little one watching" Jenna smiled
"Let's have some dinner and then we will get her in bed and I
will be all yours"
Joseph smiled softly and looked at their daughter. He nodded
and spoke "i promise to behave." grinning as he held her close
"Do you want a glass of blood?" slowly letting go to move to the
fridge.
"Yes, I already warmed some up on the stove there should be a
sippy cup on the counter for Izzy" Jenna said picking the little
girl up and setting her in her high chair. Jenna sat beside her
and picked up the girls ravioloi "I made ravioloi for all of us"
she said cutting it into small pieces and handing the child the
spoon then placed the bowl on her tray.
Joseph proceeded to start pouring some blood in to the sippy
cup for their daughter. He made sure it wasn't too cold or warm
for her before putting the lid on it and walked over. He kissed
his daughters head and spoke "here you go my sweet little
princess." he smiled and stood back up "that sounds great babe."
grinning as he began pouring out their glasses as well.
"Dada" Izzy said as she took a bite of food. "Dada dada dada"
Jenna smiled, "I think shes missed you"
Joseph smiled and sat close to his daughter. He reached over
and stroked her cheek softly as he spoke "I've missed you too
princess." he grinned widely and looked back to Jenna "I missed
both of you baby.."
"We missed you too Earth was so dull I hated being a paper
pusher" Jenna laughed a little.
Joseph laughed softly as he sat there. He sat back and sipped
at his blood before he spoke "Did you see my father at all on
Earth? I haven't heard from him in a while..." he looked at his
wife as he sat there, it was obvious he was a bit worried.
"Jon is well he has a new girl friend she seems really nice he
stopped by while they were having repairs done to the POA."
Jenna said sipping her glass.
He furrowed his brow and spoke "Repairs? What happened?"
tilting his head to the side as he watched her.
"Skermish with the last of the Banor, it was an ambush while
they were hunting a terroist cell. Nothing major."
He sighed lightly and nodded before he spoke "Okay.. As long as
he is alright." He moved in and started to eat some of the
raviolis as they sat together. Joseph reached forward and took
her hand in to his, squeezing gently "I am very happy you are
home finally Jenna.. I think I missed you more than I have every
missed anyone.."
"I love you honey, I missed you like crazy. It's good to be
back out in the stars. It's where I belong" she squeezed his
hand and smiled.
Joseph squeezed her hand back lightly and ate the rest of his
raviolis quickly. Drinking down his blood slowly, he turned to
watch their daughter play a bit with her food before eating it
and sipping at her blood. The little girl yawned and looked very
tired. Slowly Joseph stood up and spoke "lets get you ready for
bed hmm? maybe a bath baby girl?" taking her out of the high
chair and in to his arms, still wearing his uniform top.
"I'll get her pjs and bed set up while you do that" Jenna said
picking up the dinner dishes and rinsing them in the sink before
heading for their daughters room. She took out pjs from the
girls suitcase she hadn't had time to unpack yet. She then
pilled out the bedding and started to make her crib.
Joseph had taken her to the bathroom and gotten her stripped
down. He got her in to the bath and played around with a rubber
ducky with her. It took him almost a half an hour but he finally
got her clean and dressed back. When finished he got her dried
off and a new diaper on her, pulling her tail through the hole
as he spoke "There we go! all clean and squeeky!" grinning. He
carried the still yawning girl to her bedroom. Izzy clung to him
some before starting to fall asleep. Joseph looked at Jenna and
spoke "Got her crib and pjs ready?"
"Yep" Jenna took Izzy and put her PJ's on her then picked her
up and lay her in the crib covering her with her fave blanket.
She rubbed the girls back a little and she fell asleep. Jenna
help a finger to her lips and tip toed out the door.
Joseph watched his daughter for a few moments longer, taking
his time to watch her before heading out of the room. He let the
door slide silently shut and whispered softly "Shes so
beautiful..." looking back at the door.
"She is, looks just like her dad" Jenna stripped off her
uniform jacket and tossed it on the back of a chair. She moved
over to her husband and wrapped her arms around his neck before
kissing him deeply. I'm all yours."
Joseph slowly wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her
tight to his body. He kissed her back just as deeply, letting
his tongue brush against her lips before he whispered "I've
dreamt of this moment for months..." smiling as he started to
walk her backwards towards the bedroom.
"mm me too" she said walking backwards until she hit the bed
with the back of her legs and she fell backwards bringing him
with her. Jenna couldn't believe he was there that she had him
to herself as cloths fell away they made love like it had been
decades rather then months since they had been together.

---------------------------------------------------------
USS Veroto
Marine County | Marine COs Office
After her staff meeting with the engineering teams and getting
everything divided up she knew it was time to check in at her
second post. She made her way to the marine deck and stopped
outside the CO's office. This used to be Danny's office suddenly
she was very sad. She rang the chime and when she heard him bade
her to enter she stepped in and stopped three paces from the
desk snapped to attention and rendered a salute. "Captain Lela
Hardfighter reporting in sir"
Rodge's back was facing her as he was standing, staring at the
desk of the office. After calling in the Captain that stepped in
he turned around to greet her and nodded. It was only about 20
minutes since he arrived to the office before someone reconized
that he was onboard.
"At ease Captain." He said extending his hand out for a shake
after spotting her collar.
"Major Rodge Miller." He introduced himself
Lela shook his hand she went to parade rest. "Nice to meet you
Major. I'll be your XO. If you need anything, a tour or what not
let me know I grew up on this ship even helped design it. I will
also be acting Chief Engineer until my father... I mean
Commodore Tellok returns from leave so I will be bouncing back
and forth."
'The daughter of Commodore Tellok?' he thought to himself. First
big surprise for him already.
"I heard that this was a highly experimental ship." He
commented.
"I may need a tour later, but not right yet...i'm still getting
accustomed." He said gently before looking back at the desk.
"Command was in a hurry to send me over here so I wasn't able to
get any information on the crew or the battlion...how strong are
we?" He asked
"We are a small special operations devision. 90 people 10
Officers the rest are enlisted. Gunny Alicia Fuller is the
senior enlisted shes a hard ass but fair. 1st lt Richards is a
good man and a good squad leader. We work hard and as a team
always." Lela said a little proud. "Everyone has a specialty. I
am a sniper and explosive ordanace."
He couldn't help but smile at the tone in her voice.
"Strong unity..that's a good sign." He said, espcially at this
time.
"Looks like we got a common ground." He added in comment.
"except, I put explosives down, not removed them."
"May I speak freely?" Lela asked
"go ahead. In private no need to ask." He said, gently crossing
his arms
"You have big shoes to fill Major, my husband General
Hardfighter was a damn good CO. The people here love him so
don't expect them to take to you right away. They will treat you
with respect but its going to take them awhile to trust you."
Lela said gently
"I'm well aware, Captain." He commented before turning back to
face the desk.
"..I've been here for almost half an hour, and I've kept myself
from sitting into that chair." He said.
"Are we able to call the marines to assembly?" He asked
"Yes, this deck is strictly for Marines, Officers have their own
quarters but Enlisted have one large barracks." Lela moved
around the desk. "This button right here patched you ship wide,
this one just the marine deck" she showed him the buttons. She
keyed the one for the deck. "Marines fall in on the parade deck"
she said then released the button.
He memorized the button positions for when they'll be useful and
then looked up as she called in the marines to the parade deck.
"I'll keep that in mind." He said
Lela nodded, "I will show you around the deck after we are done.
You will need to know where everything is. Have you found your
quarted yet?" She asked her tail swished back and forth and her
feline ears cocked a little.
"I have not just yet." He said, just now noticing that she had
cat ears. Catian serving both Engineering and Marine XO, he was
actually quite surprised.
"Hopefully I'll get used to the ship quickly."
"I'm not Catian" Lela smiled reading the mans mind, "I am
Romulan, Bajoran, Klingon, and half Kntarian and I am a
vampire.”
He shook his head at the sudden surprise response.
"A mind reader, Romulan, Bajorian, Kta..." He stopped losing the
trail of his words to his mind.
"That's quite a mix." He said. He thought he saw everything, but
this is definitely took a new slice of cake
"My mom is Fleet Admiral Kira Phaserman so I am half Kntarian
and shes also a vampire. My father is Romulan, Klingon, and
Bajoran and now a vampire"
"Now I'm starting to wonder how that mix came about.." He
commented as he tried to put two and two together on the family
line but dared not to cross it for now.
"where's the parade grounds by the way?" He asked
"Follow me" Lela led the way out of the office right onto the
parade deck. "Company attention" She called. Everyone snapped to
attention. "All yours major"
Miller watched as the Company snapped in a unified click. 'Here
goes nothing..' he thought to himself as he looked forward. He
wasn't a mind reader, but he could tell they were questioning to
his presence.
"I'm Major Rodge Miller..I've been transfered from Echo Fleet's
'Lionheart' 27th Assault Battlion aboard the USS Valkyre
Sword...and from this point until further notice, I will be your
Commanding Officer." He introduced himself. He could see many of
their faces taking a dislike to the annoucement just as he had
expected.
"...I...havn't had the opptunity..or the prilvage to meet or
speak with General Hardfighter...other than my understanding
that he was more than a good man and even greater Marine. The
legacy he has left here is seen all around us and on the faces
of many of you here. That is something I will never be able to
touch." He paused.
"I'm not asking to be your friend, I'm not asking that you
accept me as a leader...and I know for sure, I will never be
someone as great as General Hardfighter...however I only ask
that you trust me enough as the brother in the foxhole with
you...that I will step before death himself first before another
tragdy befalls this ship or her crew."
Lela listened and took in the sites of the Marines, some where
hurt, some where distrust, some angry, some resigned. She caught
site of Gunny Fuller and watched her. She shifted and caught
Lela's glance she nodded ever so slightly. "I'll be serving as
the Marine XO" she said then looked over at the Major. "Anything
else for the troops?"
He looked to her and nodded looking back at them.
"I know it's hard everyone...just know I've been where your
standing on more than one occasion." He said finally.
"Team leaders...continue as you are...but deliever a report on
your unit asap. Everyone, do your best to stay sharp, ready and
lethal. That is all." He finished and looked to Lela to dismiss
the company for right now. He could tell that this was probably
going to be a rough start
"Company dissmissed" Lela called "how about I show you around?"
she asked as they all fell out.
"Thank you" He said with a nod for the show around as the
sounds of clattered boots echoed the parade area
"Let's start with everyones fave place" Lela led the way a cross
the parade deck to the armory. "This will be the armory, all
weapons are stored here... at least for enlisted folks Officers
get to keep theres you should see the gun rack I've got."
He looked around. The Armory was definitly nicely kept. The
smell of ammo brought a smile to his face.
"I bet it is a nice rack in deed." He said, spying some of the
weapons that were displayed on some of the lockers
"If you ever need anything speak with Staff Sgt Monty he will
hook you up" Lela said then headed back out. "I'll show you the
holodecks for training and the obstical course next." she led
him out into the corridor and headed left. "Everything we need
is on this deck. We even have a swimming pool."
He followed the beautiful Captain towards the training
holodecks, taking note of direction and distances between
everywhere.
"A swimming pool? First ship I've heard to have that"
"There are two pools on the ship one for rec one for us." Lela
stopped outside the holodecks. "These are for training
simulations and also rec during off hours. She kept going and
stopped outside another room she opened the door. "Obstical
course" she said showing him the spacious deck. She exited out
and went further down. "The pool" she said gesturing. She took
another corridor and then turned right at a junction. "This is
the Enlisted Mess, Officers mess is right a cross from it" she
gestured
It was alot to take in. This ship was larger than it it looked.
The Marine country was definitly a resort to Marines for all
their needs. It was also very perfect for scenaro trainning as
well as places for the Marines to confer with each other.
"...I'm guessing the marines wanted to kill me when they heard I
was stepping in." He said, as the thought shown up
"No not kill persay they just don't know what to make of
everything. A lot of change" Lela said leading him through the
maze. She stopped outside a door. "These are your quarters." she
said opening the door. "This ship has 38 decks and a lot going
on we are like our own floating country here."
"No kidding." He said in agreement. He had an idea where alot of
everywhere was so he should be fine for wondering around. Looked
into his quarters.
"This is definitly the Flagship of Lima"
"Yes, very much so." Lela stepped in his quarters. "The Marine
quartermaster is out and to the left all the way at the end if
you need anything. I recommend bringing chocolate chip cookies
preferably home made and you get hooked up quicker."
He chuckled.
"I'll keep that in mind." He said before stepping in past the
threashold. He stopped before turning around.
"what about your opinion..?" He asked. He had an idea of where
everyone else is..but what of his XO?
Lela sighed, "My husband and I are seperated, I'm pregnant and
working two jobs. I honestly don't care. Don't fuck it up and we
can be god friends. Just don't try and change to much this
company works good together I recommend doing some drills see
how they all work together and go from there"
'I would never change whats been set in stone here.' He thought
before nodding.
"I'll definitly do that once settled in. Thank you Captain." He
said
'I would never change whats been set in stone here.' He thought
before nodding.
"I'll definitly do that once settled in. Thank you Captain." He
said
"You're welcome, if you need anything else let me know I'll let
you get settled in." Lela said
He nodded before stepping into his quarters

Abby had piloted the shuttle herself, she hadn't wanted to wait
for one of Starfleet's fly boys she wanted to get onto the ship
to report in and set sickbay up including double checking the
med-kits which hopefully were set up for the Vampires onboard,
the unpacking could wait until that was done. Abby would miss
Cam and the kids but knowing the Veroto they were safer on the
moon the kids were enrolled at the school there being looked
after her dad who's business had taken a hit in the war and he
was rebuilding. Abby docked the shuttle after getting clearance
and boarded trying to ignore the thoughts of those onboard her
abilities had been turned back on by medical last week so Abby
was still trying to get used to not being a normal human "home
sweet home I guess" Abby boarded a turbo lift "deck one bridge"
Abby was hoping to see her old friend in the Captain's chair but
knows it would be doubtful

Joseph awoke the next morning, smiling as he was still spooned
against his naked, sticky and a bit bloody wife. He propped
himself on his elbow to watch her sleep for a few moments,
kissing her shoulder lightly. Slowly he extracted himself from
the bed and got up. He stretched his aching body, working out
some kinks from the previous night before grabbing some lounge
wear. He knew he still had a few hours before he had his duty
shift.
Slowly he made his way out to the living room where his desk
was and sat down to pour over reports from the night shift and
catch up on the FedNet. After a while he yawned, being rather
bored by most of it. Joseph picked up a PADD and started to work
on the duty schedule for the bridge crew, wanting to get the
tactical sensors back up to one hundred percent, along with the
inertial dampeners. He hated the new ones recently installed on
their ship, as they were constantly throwing his balance off.
Making his way to the kitchen, he started to make coffee in the
coffee pot, stopping after a moment as he read a name on the new
crew list. He sighed gently and whispered softly "Hello little
sis.." smiling as he thought he would need to go see her soon.

brother as well?" she asked.
"Yes, I'm worried about mom." Lela said sheepishly.
"You and me both" Jazmyn nodded. "It seems my younger, dumber,
littler brother is the XO here." Jazmyn sighed.
"Don't be so hard on Joe I know you two arn't very close but he
is a good man, a good dad, and he been there for me through a
lot." Lela said coming to his defense. "What exactly will you be
doing here?"
"Watch it little one?" Jazmyn urged her little sister. "I am

Re: Mission-09-Angel's of Mercy
By: Kristen McQueen Date: September 7, 2014, 10:45 am
---------------------------------------------------------
A dozen starfighters approached the Veroto's location at Warp 3.
Rather than being loaded down with missiles, torpedoes, and
bombs, they carried cargo pods. Also along with the fighters
were a quartet of large shuttlecraft.
Marine Starfighter Squadron 99, or VMF-99, also known by their
nickname "Satan's Kittens", was transferring to USS Veroto. 12
Tomcat Starfighters and 12 pilots, plus a support staff of 60
marines who maintained the flying craft. In command, and flying
lead in her starfighter, was Colonel Kristen McQueen. Her record
indicated she was the leading surviving ace of the Banor War, a
designation that bothered her. She would gladly have taken the
title of second highest scoring ace, if it meant she didn't need
to step into the shoes filled by Colonel Gary Phaserman.
Kristen and Gary had a friendly rivalry between them, constantly
jockeying for the best record in the war, and it carried over to
their fighter wings, too. Although McQueen's fighter wing out of
Starbase Leatherneck had accumated 8 more kills than Phaserman's
had, Gary had bested her by two kills before being shot down.
Now, her Satan's Kittens were relieving his Eagle Squadron
aboard Veroto.
"Approaching home plate, slow to impulse and tighten it up."
McQueen ordered. "USS Veroto, Kitten 100 approaching, 12
fighters and 4 support craft total."
"Kitten 100, Veroto Control, you are cleared for approach."
"Thanks, Control." Kristen said, then to her pilots, as they
slowed from several dozen times the speed of light to a speed of
35,000 miles per hour, "Form by flights, Diamond of Diamonds
parade formation. We'll pass to port, turn across the bow, then
down the starboard side before breaking for recovery. Shuttles
first, then the fighters."
Kristen's two flight leaders checked in. Leading 2 flight was
Major Lizzie Hanson, the squadron's executive officer and
Kristen's wife. Leading 3 flight was Captain Matt Capaldi.
"Control, Kitten 100, We are going to pass in review before
recovery."
"Control acknowledges. Keep it high, the Admiral is in her
quarters." The controller said, then asked the bridge to pass
the word of the flyby.
The flyby went smoothly, the pilots keeping a tight formation in
the diamond of diamonds, passing both sides of the ship with a
45 degree inside bank, known as a knife-edge pass. Coming past
the stern, the shuttles lined up for recovery first. "One
flight, finger four on me, one more pass. 103, on my command
break vertical."
Kristen's lead flight came around again, this time looping wide
and coming in across Veroto's beam, passing the Admiral's
quarters first. At 500 meters out, Kristen said simply, "Break
on pass." As the fighters passed over the ship, 103 pulled
vertical and accelerated away. She hoped performing a "Missing
Man" wasn't overstepping it as she landed.
"Get settled in, we'll meet up in 2 hours." Kristen ordered,
leading Lizzie to report in.
