It’s very true knives are often felt before they are seen and
people often underestimate the damage a simple blade can do. I
will say depending on your location geographically speaking the
most common knife attacks will be the thrust of slashing motion
which is the equivalent to the wild haymaker in a bar. Whenever
I do any form of knife defense I always stress if you can run
away do that there is no shame in surviving another day. Now if
and only IF you have to engage someone who has a knife and
you’re empty hand I can’t stress how much distance is your
enemy. As crazy as it sounds the closer you are the less room
your attacked has to put force behind any form of slash or stab.
You want to disable the weapon hand, BUT do not forget your
attacked still has his other hand. I will try to record
something with Nightwing on the subject iof knife defense.

Knives are a serious consideration for anyone involved in
security, law enforcement, investigation, or RLSHing.
It's why I say the two things you need before putting on the
cape are martial arts and first aid.

Hi Batman973,
Body armor that can deflect stabs would be good especially stuff
you can make yourself. I'm really big on do it your self perhaps
because when I started out there wasn't any place to get stuff
unless you made it your self. But when I started out there was
no Internet like there is today either.

I wanted to make a video on knife defense I wanted to know was
there any specific attack or scenario heroes want covered.

Ooh, well, spotting a palmed knife is important, so is watching
the hands for the moment they disappear to reach for the belt or
pocket to draw a weapon.
I'd like to see more ways to actually remove the knife from the
hand, if it has a protruding pommel you can strip it out with
the edge of your hand, but otherwise it can be tricky.
I guess there's the straight thrust, the slash and wild swing,
the "hammer grip" or overhand psycho stab, and the mugger's hold
with the blade to the throat from behind, but I'd like to see
defences for an attacker who grabs or yokes with the empty hand
and attacks "sewing machine" style, like they do in prison, and
a knife wielding opponent who has the mount on you, and an
opponent who sticks the knife an inch in, stops it with their
thumb, and uses it to control you, South African style. Also an
opponent who suddenly switches the knife from hand to hand when
you're controlling him, and maybe some third party protection.
