Nicotine Anonymous A New Structure for Service

I. Background
For years now, a number of dedicated members of our fellowship
have wrestled with challenges facing our fellowship, debating on
issues to keep our membership intact, with growth and
continuously carrying the message to still suffering nicotine
addicts. Annual World Service Conferences over the past few
years have struggled to make ends meet without a loss, and have
not been very well attended. Those that attend are mostly
members who have attended for several years, and many have
worked in service positions for many years as well. Only a small
amount of NicA groups are represented at a conference, where
committees do not meet or conduct business on issues to present
to the conference floor.
II. Proposals for Discussion/Consideration
Should the WSC Schedule be once every three years, every other
year, otherwise?
How can the conference schedule be extended to allow for
committee meetings, motions, discussion, and decisions on issues
affecting the fellowship?
Can we elect Board (WSB) members to serve a different length
term?
Should WSB members be limited to serve no more than two
consecutive terms?
Should the conference elect members to the board, and the board
later decide who to serve as Chair, Secretary, Treasurer?
Should members have served as a previous board member, member of
a committee, or other NAWS service position for one year before
being nominated to serve on the board?
How can we bring more participation to our committees and
service positions? Should we clarify some minimum members to
have in a committee?
III. How Can This Work?
Identify Standing Committees and meeting schedules to support
the needs of the fellowship.
Discuss each Standing Committee, how is serves the fellowship,
and needed membership (i.e., consist of at least one board
member, number of delegates, and other members of the fellowship
desiring to be of service).
Schedule and method for conducting meetings (i.e., quarterly,
online teleconference).
IV. Delegate Terms and Service Appointments
When should groups/intergroups elect delegates in order to
participate in service and committee membership?
Can Delegates attend the World Service Conference remotely?
Should Delegates be appointed to serve on one or more committees
during their term?
Should Delegates hold Area Service Meetings, encouraging
increased participation in service.
V. Conference Schedule
Should Delegates participate in Committees prior to the WSC to
improve conference participation and floor actions?
Should time be allotted/limited for Delegate reports, Board
Reports, Coordinator/Committee Reports?
Should nominations for Board positions be made prior to
conference, enabling delegates to focus on issues that need to
be addressed?
VI. Standing Committees
Should the Committee Structure change to better support the
fellowship? Frequently, little gets done in a committee if only
a few participate. The following committees are recommended to
be “standing committees”, which are always active to support the
groups and Intergroups of Nicotine Anonymous:

VII. Conference Communications Plan
Should the Conference provide for remote participation in
conference activities to increase representation of groups at
the World Service Conference?
