Re: Moonlit Vigil
By: A. Capella Schwambart Date: October 6, 2016, 7:51 pm

Schwambart keeps following the unicorn, keeping at a consistent
distance. When he stops, Schwam changes his angle to get a
better look at him. Not a pony he recognizes. It's possible
he's seen him, but he's seen a lot of ponies, and the leaping
unicorn is not one he's ever made special note of. He checks
his watch again, deciding to continue the observance for now.
When he looks up, he has to take a bit to find the unicorn
again. Seeing him plunge towards the ground, he swoops down
towards where he would impact, just a blur in the night, coming
to an abrupt stop when the unicorn disappears. It doesn't take
him long to find him again, streaking across the sky. Well,
that certainly is one way to get around. Schwam regains his
height and resumes his pursuit.

A yawn exits the unicorn's mouth, the exercise has been trying.
Deciding to call it a night, he stretches his legs and walks
over to the edge. Something has been on his mind though. Things
have been going a bit too well. Too quiet. Shrugging, he leaps
off onto the street. For now, it's just a simple stroll back to
the barracks, and back to bed. Good thing Foxtrot is off work
tomorrow, he'll definitely be sleeping in.

Seeing the figure drop to the ground, Broadshield decides its
time for him to make his move. He glides down and silently lands
behind the figure. "Who are you really? Show yourself." he says
plainly to the figure, still not able to recognize who it is
because of the darkness.

Schwambart alights on a somewhat nearby rooftop and lays himself
flat against it, content to keep an eye on the jumping unicorn
and the pursuing pegasus. Heh. Alliteration. But not enough
to make him chuckle, two words is petite potatoes. He can make
out quite clearly what both ponies look like, but he isn't
familiar with either. Ah, well. Maybe he could learn a thing
or two.

Agent 04 stops as soon as he hears the familiar voice. Turning
around, he meets Broadshield's stare with his. His irises still
glowing. A stark contrast to the night time setting. "Oh, it's
you." He replies, his tone rather neutral and expressionless.
"It's been some time since I've seen you Commander. Or do I
address you as 'sir'? Since Foxtrot rejoined the guard, I take
it that he falls under your command?"

As the figure turns around, he finally sees that the figure in
front of him is Foxtrot, the last pony he thought he'd see. But
then he noticed the glowing eyes, the neutral and expressionless
tone in his voice. This may have been Foxtrot's body, but it
sure wasn't Foxtrot. "What the- Foxtrot? What're you-" he says
before it clicked, the realization of the situation becoming
clear. "Oh, hello Agent 04. We finally meet at last. You've
missed out on a lot. The 'other guy' has joined Equinox as a
soldier. Not a guard." he says, pausing. "So, what brings you to
the Industrial District at this time?" he asks.

"Not to cause any trouble if that's what you're concerned
about." the Agent says as he sits down. "I'm just adhering to
what's left of my remaining directives. Maintain physical and
magical conditioning to remain at peak performance." His gaze
wander to the rooftops. "Trying out new techniques, moves,
things like that." The unicorn returns back to Broadshield, "I
should also congratulate you as well. Taking down the Directors
was no easy feat. Even if I went by myself I'd be dead."

"Good, I wouldn't want to have to be the one to bring you in if
you did start trouble again." he says, taking a seat on the
ground much like Fo-... Agent 04. Anger and old memories and
pains bubble up again as Agent 04 reminds him of that Celestia
damned operation in Manehatten. "You... you and your damned
directives, your damn Directors, your f***ing organization..."
he mutters, just loud enough for the Agent to hear the venom and
anger in his voice. "Did you ever stop to consider the
consequences of your actions when you carried out your orders?
The ponies you would hurt and kill? The lives you would destroy?
The families you would leave heartbroken and devastated? Or did
you just not give a damn and followed orders for your Directors
like a good little dog?" he says, his head hanging low. "As if
it wasn't bad enough that Equinox had to fix your damn mess in
Calais, barely stopping civil war from breaking out, you had to
make things worse for us in Manehatten, you and your Directors.
I don't know if you know, but Foxtrot does. Because of what
happened in Manehatten, over 50 ponies died, half of them my
men. Good, honest soldiers, all because of you and the 26." he
says, standing up. "I have no issue with Foxtrot, but I will
never forgive you or your organization for all that you've done.
The 26 all deserve to burn in Tartarus." he says, spitting on
the ground.

The agent remains silent as he listens to Broadshield. As he
sees the Commander's last gesture, the unicorn remains stood in
his posture. "You're right. You're right about most of it. But
let's get down to brass tacks first. Everything that Foxtrot
sees, I see; his memories, are mine too. I saw what happened in
Manehattan. The fight. The damage. The death. All of it. I know
about the ones lost, the families that won't see them. That's
why I was made. Why I exist."
The unicorn looks down to his jacket, eyeing up the patch
stitched onto the sleeve. "War will always have its casualties,
you know that concept very well Commander." Agent 04 looks back
to the stallion. "Calais, the town where the civil war ended due
to the involvement of The 26. The neutralization of their leader
in their very last bastion of defense. Leaving Saddle Arabia and
Equinox to deal with the stragglers. A town... that became a
casualty itself; flooded by the lake it so prospered from. But
you know what the worst part about it is? I... wasn't there for
that. I should've, but the activation failed. Foxtrot went in
all by himself, without the proper experience or knowledge that
he needed. He got the job done, I'll give him that. But the
price paid was too steep. I haven't been given an assignment
since, not one like that. Especially considering what happened
after." His ear twitch, suddenly shifting upwards. Something was
certainly off; the agent may not be able to put his hoof on it,
but it doesn't mean he had to stock around to find out why. "I'd
certainly love to talk more about it. But from this point on, it
would be better to talk somewhere other than the streets."

"Don't lecture me on war. I know damn well what it means to lose
someone. I know damn well that there are always casualties in
war. Equinox exists so that there are no casualties, so that
there aren't any broken families. I've lost many ponies in my
life, friends, family, brothers-in-arms, for whatever reason,
the Changeling Invasion, the Saddle Arabian war, the fight
against the 26. If you were made to stop this death, where were
you when those I cared about died?" he growls, almost yelling.
Before he blows up, he calms himself down, trying not to let his
emotions and memories dictate his actions. "Look, this whole...
thing. Its a sensitive subject, and something I'm not
comfortable talking about anymore. But let me say this. I trust
Foxtrot, but I don't trust you Agent. Now lets leave it at that,
and come with me back to base, you may be another persona, but
you're still a soldier of Equinox. Lets go-" he says, before
twitching his ears, hearing something. Looking around, he tries
to find anything suspicious. He knows there are ponies here, but
he doesn't know where. "We're leaving now. We're going back to
base." he says to Foxtrot.
