Isabelline glares at the molten creature as she studies its
peculiar form, prying her eyes off for just a moment to make
sure she caught the elaborate dagger by the handle. Fast,
precise, and quite personal, Isabelline holds a quiet fondness
for well-made daggers, coming second only to her own modified
halberd, Harbinger. She sorely wishes she had carried it with
her, but remaining inconspicuous would have been quite
impossible. "We seem to be out of luck on that particular
front," she comments, returning her attention to the beast. Nary
a cloud in the sky, nor body of water nearby. "We must make due
with our chances. It can't possibly focus on the both of us...
Right?" Isabelline sounds unsure, brandishing her torch in the
creature's direction as she beckons it with a paltry game of
fetch. "Any tricks up your sleeve, Captain? We could flank it...
One on each side. Although I'm hesitant on getting close to that
thing; molten fire and fur hardly mix..."

"It certainly doesn't. It's got a nasty bite, can cause tremors
and spit fireballs. So for such an occasion, I brought these as
well." Reaching over, he detaches two canisters and slowly
sidesteps over to her. The movement triggers the beast to slowly
approach, still deciding on who to attack next. "Here, one
flashbang canister and one flame suppressant. The second one
suppresses the oxygen in a cloud. Don't know what it'll do it,
but I'd be happy if it just ticks it off. But the plan is to
       distract and flank."
The tefelhunden howls into the night. It brings up its front
paws and slams them onto the ground. A wide tremor crashes
towards them, the hound following right after. It suddenly
veers towards the left, keeping track of Isabelline. Molten
slobber drips from its mouth. With a steep roar he launches a
       ball of fire at her.

The mare nods slowly, frowning as she attempts to build up some
sort of attack plan. While flash-bangs were widely useful in a
variety of situations, Isabelline was unsure if it would have
any effect on the creature. Having what would essentially be
small, molten cores for eyes, the chances of blinding such a
thing were rather slim. However, that wasn't necessarily a bad
thing; beasts and creatures suddenly robbed of their sight have
the tendency to become extremely volatile and erratic... She
would have to rely on the sound, which could possibly
disorientate it enough to bring it down safely. As for the flame
suppressing one, Isabelline was equally unsure on what effect it
might have on the beast. There was a high chance that its fire
and core were steeped in magic, but like Ebony said, he'd be
just as happy if it only served to tick it off.
Isabelline instinctively pins her ears back when the beast
howls, keeping her eyes locked on its form as it rears back and
and drives its front paws against the ground. She lifts herself
a couple inches off the ground, whirling about in mid-air as she
breaks off from Ebony and jeers at the creature with a taunt.
"Aww, what's the matter, puppy? Took a wrong turn in Tartarus?
Surely you can do better than... that?..."
With a surprised squeak that was rather uncharacteristic of the
mare, Isabelline tucks her wings and rolls straight into the
ground as the fireball whiffs right over her. The creature's
attack speed and lack of a wind-up had caught her off-guard...
Beast or not, one underestimation of an opponent was one too
many. Isabelline springs back up on all fours, now fully
vigilant as she circles around the creature, hoping to provide
an attack of opportunity for Ebony while its attention was
       focused on her.

Ebony rolls away just in time as the ball of flame passes them.
It collides with a nearby tree and shatters it to pieces,
leaving only charted cinders behind. The dull pain in his alway
injured shoulder starts back up. A reminder of how things can
turn out. Have to act quickly. Taking to the sky, he dives
       towards the beast.
Meanwhile, the tefelhunden begins its sprint straight towards
Snow. Bellowing in the night, the dark fangs only glow bright
orange from the maw of the beast. Sudden changes in course prove
it difficult to track for either of the guards. Still, it's a
large enough target for the captain to make his move.
Flicking something under his sleeve, he slings over a metal barb
at the monster's hind leg. It wraps around and snags on tight.
The abrupt change in momentum causes both the dog and the guard
to drop to the ground hard. Looking up, Coldsteel spits out a
healthy dose of grass. "Damn, this mutt is strong." Getting up,
he sees the tefelhunden shake off its own landing and growl
right him. Ebony bares his own fangs and snarls at the demon.
Enticed, it charges at him, completely ignoring his previous
       prey.

Isabelline braces herself, unfurling her wings again as she
loads herself like a spring. She stares down the charging beast
with careful consideration, her keen eyes attempting to keep
track of its erratic movements as she poised to take flight at
the last moment. Risky, she thinks, but it would allow her to
get behind the hound and possibly attack from the rear. That is,
if her agility is up to par with its own. She furrows her brows
in concentration as she counts down the seconds, but just before
she makes her move, a sharp, metallic glint catches her eye. Not
a moment later, the beast trips and hits the ground with a loud
thud, soon followed by Ebony as he crashes much in the same
manner. Not so much as a yelp or cry of surprise from the
creature, but Ebony certainly managed to catch its attention.
The demon moves, charging once again as it barrels towards the
Captain in reckless abandon. Isabelline seizes her chance,
kicking off the ground as she propels herself forward with a
mighty push from her wings. She needs the beast to sit still to
use one of the canisters effectively, if only just for a moment.
Regardless, using one in such close proximity to Ebony and
herself would be largely, if not completely out of the question.
With both Gemini and torch in hoof, the mare makes a choice- to
strike hard at the demon's flank in an attempt to bowl it over.
With all the power and speed she could muster in such a short
distance, Isabelline pulls up next to the charging hound and
suddenly drives the torch into the earth. Using the makeshift
stake as a fulcrum, the mare forces her trajectory to shift,
leading with Gemini's sharp point as she collides straight into
       the beast's side.
With any luck, the force behind her blow would knock it off of
its feet, and perhaps even puncture its leathery hide.

The creature let's out a vicious howl as the dagger strikes
true. Blood as thick and dark as oil oozes from its wound.
Rolling off, it recovers back onto its paws, Gemini still
protruding from its torso. Still close to Isabelline, it brings
back its hind legs and kicks the mare as hard as possible. Now
with some room, the tefelhunden inhales, smoke gathering between
is teeth. It starts to exhale a screen of smoke. It's short
lived however, the captain already flapping his wings to push it
away. "Not this time!" Coldsteel shouts, a defiant grin on his
       face.
The hound ceases its smokescreen and decides more drastic
measures. Its maw begins to glow again. Instead of a ball of
fire, flames stream out like a dragon's breath. Ebony hops back
and throws the fire suppression canister. The can heats up from
the fire and erupts, blue mist surrounding the tefelhunden and
causing it to excessively cough and heave. Seizing the moment,
Coldsteel charges forward. Gemini glares brightly in his hoof.
Once in range, he pounces. Unfortunately, the beast recovers in
time to counter. With its large paws and surprising strength it
swipes the Captain straight into the ground like a fly. The
noctral rolls about and ends up on his back. Looking up, he
finds the tefelhunden right over him. Using all of his might he
raises his front hooves to block the demon as it tries to tear
his face off. His dagger is too far away to reach, and the
growls from the creature drowning out his hearing. The orange
gloves for eyes only multiply the ferocity of the devil dog.

Isabelline tumbles hard into the ground with a loud thud after
she collides with the beast, rolling to a stop just a mere foot
away from the howling demon. She clamors back up onto her
hooves, focusing just in time to see the dagger embedded in its
side... and two giant hind legs coming right for her. With
little time to react, Isabelline barely manages to cover her
face, taking the hit with a loud, surprised yelp as she's
launched off to the side. The force of the blow made her head
swim in pain, but the pain only served to fuel her as she
recovers and stands once more. Nothing broken, she thinks, but
she would have bruises the size of Canterlot... Regardless, the
mare could not afford to take another direct hit like that.
The Noctral watches as the hound attempts to conceal itself with
smoke, rendered ineffective by Ebony's quick thinking. As smoke
manifests into fire, Ebony counters once again, turning the tide
in his favor as the flame suppressant threatens to choke the
beast. Isabelline approaches slowly, looking for an opening to
strike once more. Her best bet, she thinks, is to duck in close
and strike the dagger buried within its side... A makeshift
weak-point, but it was all she had to effectively rely on.
Things didn't go as planned, however, as Ebony's luck seemed to
turn against him; the tefelhunden swats him straight out of the
air, pouncing on top of him like a rabid dog as it attempts to
maul the Captain. Isabelline didn't have the distance, much less
the time, to try and knock it off its feet again, and she needed
       to act fast.
Flashbang? Isabelline bites her tongue. Flashbangs were
incredibly useful in many situations, but to a Noctral, being
exposed to the disorientating effects requires careful
consideration. Isabelline groans and breaks the canister's seal.
No time for consideration... "THROWING FLASHBANG! GO DARK!" She
pins her ears back against her head, tossing the canister right
next to the beast as she closes her eyes.

The instant the captain hears the Commander's words, he shuts
his eyes and folds back his ears. The loud pop goes off, its
proximity still numbing Ebony's senses with a ring. The
tefelhunden recoils, shaking is head and trying to step off the
noctral. It becomes clumsy though, and one of its paws scrapes
against Coldsteel's bandaged wound. His eyes sharpen as pain
shoots through him, the urge to scream pounding in his mind.
Instead, he reaches down and pulls out his own flashbang
grenade. With the beast finally off him, he clenches his jaw and
gets back up. Angling the explosive, Ebony charges the hound and
shoves the canister right in the beast's mouth.
Following up with a well placed kick to the chest, Coldsteel
hobbles over to Isabelline. "Snow, get down!" Now furious, the
tefelhunden ignores the flashbang grenade wedged in its mouth
and chases after him. It's maw begins to glow as it readies
another ball of fire. In case his plan backfires, the captain
tackles Isabelline and spreads his wings as much as possible to
cover her. Blood from his reopened wound trickles out of its
       wrappings.
The demon closes in, is run slowed to a defiant stride as it
looms over the two Noctrals. Inhaling, it's mouth fills with
fire, the canister glowing a bright orange.
       *POP!*
Bits of meat, brain matter, and blood splash over the two as the
tefelhunden's head explodes. The body stumbles back a few paces
before dropping to the ground with a thud. Ebony peeks over
before rolling off onto his back, catching his breath after the
       whole ordeal.

Despite her precautions, Isabelline's senses ring fiercely as
her flashbang goes off. She recoils, taking a few steps back as
she attempts to asses the aftermath, still squinting as she
could barely make out the beast's hazy form... But she didn't
see Ebony. Did he get away? It was difficult to tell, but as her
vision clears, she sees the injured Captain limping her way.
Isabelline moves to assist, but it was only then that she
noticed something in the hound's mouth. The Noctral pales when
she realizes what Ebony had done, her eyes shortening to
pin-pricks as mere seconds turn to eternity. Her mind races to
determine an escape route, then screeches to a halt as she hears
Ebony shout at her. Instinctively following orders, Isabelline
hits the ground, making herself as small as possible as Ebony
tries to cover her with his outstretched wings.
She hears its roar... its looming strides growing closer...
Inhaling... And then a loud bang.
Isabelline opens one eye. While she had been exposed to brutal
attacks in the past, nothing quite prepared her for the sight
that lay sprawled all across the ground in heaping mounds of
       flesh, blood, and other matter.
       "Oh... my... Luna."
She snaps back to attention. "Ebony! Are you in one piece?" The
Noctral nearly clamors over him, already assessing the damage as
she spies red soaking through one of his shoulders. "Tsk... No
wonder you are of being covered with scars, Ebony. That was, how
you say... brazen. Completely against protocol... Thank you,
Captain." She smiles, sighing as she moves to retrieve the other
half of Gemini from the tefelhunden's side. "Now you have
another story to add to your already impressive collection."
Isabelline then moves to check on the Pegasus, still knocked out
cold from the beginning of the encounter. Except... She was no
longer a Pegasus, but a Changeling. What really struck her odd,
however, is that she retained her long, blue mane... "Seems like
our spell-casting friend was a Changeling in disguise, Ebony."
Isabelline scoffs, returning to the Captain's side as she leans
down next to him. "It matters little... We should stay put with
your shoulder like that. Somepony is bound to come around after
       the commotion we just caused."

"I certainly hope so." Ebony calmly responds, just enjoying the
starry sky above. "Bright side is that we both can add
Tefelhunden to our portfolio. Thank you by the way for getting
that dog off me, saved my life back there." He keeps breathing
steadily as the bleeding slows to a stop. He doesn't want to
admit it, but both times he and his companions could've been
killed. All this from just one creature.
