       Re: Walk in the Park

"Traps, more often than of not," the mare sighs, almost a
whisper. "But... rarely a dead end. Even traps have some, how
you say... a plethora of information, provided the trap-maker
doesn't flee." Isabelline just leaves it at that, leaving Ebony
to infer the rest. Although she never talked about it herself,
many in the Lunar Guard have heard tales of Isabelline. Some
less than flattering or heroic... Only the Crescent and a few
choice members of the Guard have seen her in action, perhaps
Ebony more than most. Isabelline was never out for glory or
heroic grandeur... Her job was to protect, and she would employ
any means necessary to guarantee the safety of her group,
       civilians, and herself.
Isabelline's prying eyes wander, shifting from pony to pony in
the distance. "I appreciate the concern, Ebony, I truly do. If I
am of requiring any assistance, I will let you know. At least
you won't stand me up like the other high ranks..." It took some
effort to bite her tongue. Isabelline had less than pleasing
things to say about the other officials, and most knew about her
distaste for them. Then again, she might deserve some of their
ire, having disobeyed direct orders time and time again and
undermining their own power with the founding of the Crescent.
She wondered how long it would be before they tried to kick her
       out.
The mare giggles audibly at the thought, shaking her head some
as she leans back again, wings slightly unfurled as she wraps
her tail around her midsection. "Ah, but that's neither here or
now, my friend. If you weren't on vacation, I might be tempted
to ask for your company on this one." She paused, leaning over
closer to Ebony. "Speaking of vacation... I am of thinking of
taking one myself. Perhaps after seeing where this contract
       leads."

"Well this is the last evening I got left, wouldn't hurt to join
in. Besides..." The noctral yawns, his fangs glistening in the
night. "I don't get enough chances to work with my team. Most of
the time I'm stuck in the office."

Isabelline couldn't help but giggle, knowing all too well the
repetitive and mundane book-work that must be done on a day to
day basis. She had her own plethora of forms and documents to
look over, sign, and file away, yet Ebony's to-do stack would
more than likely put hers to shame. "Paperwork... And I bet
they're all from me~" she teased again, moving to hop off the
bench as she furled her large wings back into place. "You are
more than welcome to be of joining me, Ebony. The night is
young, yet you yawn. Or... Perhaps it is of boredom? Either way,
I can not of be letting you get, how you say, soft, on me." she
teased yet again, turning her head just enough to give him a
warm smile as she flicks the tip of her tail underneath his
chin. Isabelline was being friendly, of course, and she was
rather positive that Ebony would have flailed her on the spot if
she pulled that in front of their charges. Appearances were
everything, after all. "Come, the contractor has agreed to meet
me on the outskirts of Ponyville near the Everfree. I trust you
       can stay hidden?"

Ebony couldn't help but smirk as Isabelline's tail tickles his
chin. He gets up from his seat and stretches, "Stay hidden?
Piece of cake. If anything I'll hide under a bush or cardboard
box or something. Anything right now is more interesting than an
evening stroll." Trotting up next to her,the captain nods. "Lead
       the way."

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Isabelline folds her wings tightly against her sides, preferring
to trot her way towards the location. Flying directly into a
meeting tends to be frowned upon, having the tendency to
frighten those that might already be present. Plus, it wasn't
exactly smart to swoop in overhead into a potential ambush. Easy
to see, and easy to aim for... The mare keeps her ears on a
swivel, her bright golden eyes scanning to and fro ahead of her
as she weaved in between buildings, eventually breaking through
       towards the outskirts of town.
"You are of owing me a drink if this turns out to be Zebra," the
mare quips off quietly, entirely confident that she could, and
would get away with it. "Stay near here," she continues,
motioning to the last building they passed. It looked to be a
sort of shed. Perhaps a workshop of sorts, worn down and almost
falling apart. "Abandoned. Worry nothing of it, my friend.
Unless, of course, an ambush is of being set up. However, one of
my spotters confirms that it is indeed of being empty."
Isabelline glances off to the side, a warm glow now just
noticeable around the bend. Her tone became even more hushed.
"You remember signal, yes? From when we were still working
together? If trouble, use it. I'll do the same. Just like of old
times.~" Isabelline trails off, taking a short bow before
       slinking around the corner.
There would be plenty of holes, nooks, and crannies to watch and
perhaps hear with keen ears as Isabelline makes her way towards
the figure, now noticeably outlined by a torch. Oddly enough,
the contractor, as Isabelline would call him or her, did not
make any effort to disguise her identity: a navy-colored, female
pegasus. Isabelline would frown deeply if she could, having lost
her own bet. The azure mare was stunningly beautiful, yet...
strangely unsettling. Something wasn't quite right, and despite
Isabelline's calm, gentle demeanor, she was already wary and on
       edge.

Ebony remains silent and nods as Isabelline points out the shed.
Heading inside, he finds a crack in the wall to peer through.
Although it's been some time since they've used the signal, it's
certainly something he wouldn't forget. As his eyes scan the
area around them, his right ear pivots in different directions
as his left points straight to Isabelline and her contact. A
toothy grin appears on his face when he sees that he'll be
getting a free drink at the end of all this. It wasn't the first
time she set herself up like that and he knows it wouldn't be
the last. For now, his focus is solely on the meeting. His twin
Daggers rest in their holster wrapped around his belt, hidden
underneath his jacket. He was unprepared the lady time he was
out at night, it won't happen again.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Isabelline approaches the young, azure Pegasus slowly and
calmly, scanning the immediate area for anything out of place.
The mare had her back turned towards the Noctral, gazing out
into the dark depths of the nearby forest. Her blazing torch,
now held high above her head, casts an eerie shadow behind her
form, twisting and flickering as the source of the light
crackles and burns. Isabelline draws up into the Pegasus'
outstretched shadow, her head hanging low as she takes a seat
and runs her hoof through the grass. A subtle, light sound, but
just enough to make her presence known.
The Pegasus glances over her shoulder, peering at Isabelline
with soft, magenta eyes, masking a peculiar fierceness that
pierced straight through her; a particular look reminiscent of a
seasoned warrior... She was fully expecting the Noctral's
       arrival.
If Isabelline wasn't on edge before, she certainly was now.
While most of her contacts prefer the cover of the night to
promote a meeting, this was the first time she was completely
out in the open. The way the Pegasus carried herself was another
red flag. All of Isabelline's contacts were emissaries of some
sort, toting around books and letters with a disheveled sense of
urgency, and in some cases, slight panic. But the mare in front
of her was... absolute. Calm. Cold... And those eyes that
       betrayed her true nature.
"Let's skip the pleasantries, my leathery-winged friend," the
mare spoke flatly, abruptly breaking the silence. She turned to
fully face the Noctral, bearing a rather unsettling grin.
Isabelline visibly frowns, propping herself up on her haunches
as her tail sweeps in front of her. "As you wish... I am-"
"Isabelline Snow," the Pegasus interrupts, mirroring the
Noctral's pose as she sits back on her haunches, loosely draping
her wings of to the sides. "I am fully aware of your exploits...
Commander." Her grin widened as she locks eyes with the mare
across from her, almost as if she was expecting to see the
briefest trace of surprise that flitted across the Noctral's
       features. "Azure... At your service."
"Fitting," Isabelline almost scoffs, matching the mare's magenta
gaze. Whoever she was, Isabelline wouldn't back down without
what she came for. She wasn't surprised that Azure knows her
name, but how she said it... Just another unsettling thing to
add to the rapidly growing list. "You have my name and my rank.
What do you require of me and my company?"
"Ah, the Order of the Silver Crescent," Azure retorts, sounding
less than flattering as she lowers her torch. "There was an
attack, quite recently, I may add, upon the denizens of this
lovely town. A beast... Quite capable of ripping you to shreds.
If a certain individual didn't happen to drive it off into the
forest from which it came, it might be gnawing on a leg or two
from some poor, unfortunate soul." Azure's grin only seemed to
deepen, casting a disturbing light on the whole ordeal.
Isabelline shifts, entirely uncomfortable with the situation and
how it was being handled, like the mare in front of her could
strike out at any moment. "Yes, I am aware... We are lucky to
count our blessings in lieu of our losses." The Noctral narrows
her eyes. "What do you know?"
"Well...," Azure shifts in turn, again mirroring Isabelline.
"What if I told you that beast wasn't merely just traipsing
through the town for a meager, midnight snack? It was sent there
by a force unseen. An experiment, if you will." She cricks her
neck, eyeing Isabelline up and down. "And because its first
attempt into the foray failed... It will be back. In greater
numbers." She stifles back a giggle, running her tongue along
the outside of her ever persistent grin.
Wary, the Noctral tilts her head, emitting a sharp click only
audible by those with keen hearing. A signal, or at least part
of it. Danger... "Let me get this straight, Azure. Somepony, or
something is controlling these creatures, and you want us to
       investigate and route it out?"
Azure grows noticeably still, her toothy grin still frozen on
her face as she slowly props herself all the way up. "Something
wicked this way comes, my leathery-winged friend."
Isabelline's ears twitch, catching a faint sound behind the
Pegasus. Azure's consistent mirroring of her own movements
finally made sense; she was distracting the Noctral's senses
from something hidden far behind her in the darkness of the
forest... And it worked. Isabelline immediately completes the
signal, sending out a series of sharp clicks as she springs to
       all fours.

Ebony's eyes sharpen as the meeting goes through. He remains
still, only blinking and tilting his ear to get better reception
of the conversation. His hoof lightly pats against his jacket.
Good, his gear is in place. Things seem to be going well, that
is until his companion tenses up and gives the signal. The
situation just escalated. Coldsteel bursts from his cover and
swoops down to the two. His fangs glisten against the night as
his ears perk up, picking up the sounds from the forest. His one
dagger is groped firmly in his hoof, whatever may come out, he's
ready. "Things didn't pan out I assume?"

Isabelline curses. She was right to bring Ebony along, but in
her false sense of security, she neglected to carry any sort of
weapon to defend herself with in case everything went south. A
serious lack of judgement, and one that might cost her dearly.
"No," she growls, unfurling her wings to their fullest extent as
she stares down her Pegasus adversary. "The only thing I'm going
to pan out is that stupid grin off of her stupid face!" Perhaps
Isabelline didn't quite know what that phrase meant, but her
intent was perfectly clear. Even without the use of a weapon,
she was a dangerous opponent... There was a good reason why her
enemies referred to her as Invicta.
Azure stands fully upright with a hollow cackle, raising the the
torch high above her head. "How delightful!~ To be graced by the
presence of Coldsteel himself..." She narrows her eyes. "Two
birds with one stone... Ussioprae nosieius temuie--"
The torch suddenly takes on a different hue, a brilliant magenta
that threatened to engulf the clearing with blinding light...
And then it was gone. With one swift motion, Isabelline propels
herself into the Pegasus with a mighty push from her
outstretched wings, connecting hoof to jaw with a loud crack as
the magenta flame putters out. Isabelline's experience in
dealing with magic was limited, but she knew a dangerous
incantation when she heard one. And the best defense against a
murmuring sorceress? Silence... Azure hits the ground cold as
the torch, still aflame, clatters down nearby.
Isabelline rubs her hoof, cursing again as she scoops up the
torch and holds it out in front of her, peering into the dense
forest. A warm, glowing orb could be seen weaving to and fro,
growing larger as it approaches at an alarming speed. "Ebony...?
Are you of seeing what I see? Too fast to be of Pegasi kind. Too
bright to be torch..." As if to answer her question, a
horrendous howl erupts from the fringes of the forest. The
glowing orb manifests itself, a sort of grotesque, giant dog,
its eyes hungry and aflame. While there was still some distance
between the beast and the two Noctrals, Isabelline nearly
instinctively recoils, taking a couple steps back to brace
herself. "Clever little wretch... This is what she was
distracting me from... This was the trap. She knew I wouldn't
dare flee and lead this monstrosity back to town. To fight
against it unarmed... Is it too late to go fetch my halberd?"

Ebony had to admit, he was rather impressed. A preemptive strike
on a mage certainly saves them a lot of trouble. Even better
when her smug grin is wiped off too. But now, it's worse. The
whole damn thing was a set up. What awaited them on the horizon
was something familiar. Something that, in a way, he was hoping
would show up again. Round two, and this time he was prepared.
"I doubt we have enough time Commander. Here." He tosses her the
dagger in his hoof, pulling out a second identical one. "Gemini
always travel together. I never go out otherwise." Loosening up
his jacket, 4 canisters ate found attached to his belt. Each
       varying in their purpose.
The growling grows even more as the beast enters the clearing.
It's glowing orange eye is only matched by the cracks in its
hide and the core in its mouth. It pays certain attention to the
captain, remembering the tussle from the other night. It's
molten drool leaves embers in the grass as it leaves is charcoal
       colored fangs.
       "I don't know if you've fought a tefelhunden before. All I know
is that it hates water, cold... and that's all I got."
