Caleb Weaver

Work in Progress*
Race: Pegasus
Age: 22
“Caleb Weaver might be the next superstar to enter the MLB.”
“There is no risk with Caleb! Scouts have been watching this kid
for years, they can’t find a single problem with this kid.”
“4.0 GPA, Honor roll, never got into trouble, All-Equestrian
high school baseball player, this guy has it all.”
“There’s not a single team, that would pass up on him. He is the
a legendary player that hasn’t been born yet.”
“Should he go to college? Hell no, he doesn’t need to. He’s
better than any college player out there.”
The radio station were all talking about the same kid. Caleb
Weaver was gonna be one special baseball player.
Years ago he would be sitting in the kitchen with two executives
from the Manehatten Mets and his parents.
“Tell me why you think Caleb is so special.” His father asked
the Executives
“Very rare do you come up on a kid like Caleb. Who can run, who
can field, who could throw, who can hit, and who can hit well.
Many youngsters we are interested in only have two of those
tools and we hope to develop a third. Caleb Weaver has five. You
don’t see that very often. The entire Mets organization will be
behind Caleb and we are ready to make a financial commitment to
him. He will become the next big-name center fielder.
“You do realize he has a full scholarship to the Stanford
University to place ball there.” His mother responded.
“We do.”
“Then he can do both?”
“Unfortunately no. We plan to take him very early on in the
draft. We can’t risk him going to college for four years and
getting injured. But we hope this check is enough to show you
how much we believe in your son.”
There would be a moment of silence before his dad spoke up.
“This is your decision Caleb, we will support you either way.”
Those words stuck with him as he stepped up to plate during his
first game. He could still hear the radio shows in his head.
“This kid will be great.”
“Caleb has never lost in his life.”
The first pitch was much faster than he ever thought it would
be.
“Strike one!” The umpire barked.
Shrugging it off, he lost some confidence as the second pitch
went right by him.
“Strike two!”
“He could’ve went to Stanford, could’ve played football. He
chose the different route.”
The ball whizzed by one last time.
“Strike three!”
Caleb hung his head and walked back to the dugout.
“Some players are just not ready for the big league.”
The next few years he bounced around. At one point even going
back to the minor leagues and finding little success there.
“You can’t be 100% right about every player. That’s the case
with Weaver. He just never panned out. That’s okay, as a team
manager, you just move on.”
“No one can blame the Mets or any team for taking a chance on
him.”
Soon instead of baseball, Caleb was becoming more well known for
being unable to catch up to a high ball, throwing Gatorade
coolers across the dugout, breaking bats in half in frustration,
and just getting cut from so many teams forcing him to move
around a lot. Some of those teams included the Las Pegasus
Angels, Baltimare Orioles, and even the Cloudsdale Astros. Those
teams all hoped that he would get better. That maybe the player
that Caleb was supposed to be would show up. Unfortunately, as
of now, that player never did. Finally, he settled down by the
Ponyville Dodgers. A financially poor team that was willing to
take any player they could for cheap. They aren’t a horrible
team, but they certainly can’t compete with teams like the Mets
That’s where he is today. Money isn’t an issue, he actually has
a lot due to the contracts he signed with different teams, but
he doesn’t care about that. Not going to a university means he
can’t find a job even if he wanted to.
Now he wasn’t a garbage player, that’s why teams still want him,
but he was still not remotely good as he was supposed to be. He
is still considered one of the biggest draft busts and one of
the biggest let down players of all time. He spends a lot of
time practicing and hanging around the Ponyville community, but
time is ticking and he’s only getting older. The door to his
career is slowly closing.
