Infiltration
By: Agilene Date: May 18, 2016, 1:54 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Don't sneeze... Agilene reminded herself as she crawled through
the dusty vents of the Equinox mountain base. Darkness
surrounded the pegasus, forcing her to rely on sounds and
vibrations coming from all around. The only source of light are
the openings she passes by every now and then. Each one provides
her a view of who or what is below. Making a bunch of turns, it
seemed she was above a hallway most of the time, all the while
passing by a few smaller rooms. Each one with a couple or so
Equinox members. Clearly, she'll have to wait for a better
moment to get out of these vents.
On her back is a bag filled with notes she had smuggled from her
old home. Notes her father Aqua Flow, a former Equinox member,
had owned. Not too long ago, Agilene had been wondering about
this odd group. She had once asked her dad questions, but each
resulted in a vague answer. The only way to find out about them
herself was to meet them in person. Specifically, the commander
himself. And what better way than to sneak into their base?
Clearly, a mission that may end up in death.
After minutes of crawling, she finally arrives at a quiet area
in the base. No signs of a living being near by, and the only
sound being the hum of the air moving through the dark, cramped
corridor. Seeing light shining through a near by opening,
Agilene crawls to it, and takes a peak through. There, she spots
what appears to be another small room. She pushes open the vent
door slowly, letting it down until it hangs on its hinges.
Agilene pokes her head out to observe her whereabouts. Of all
the places she ends up, it's a lunch room. A small interior with
a table, and a few chairs surrounding it. Along the walls sat
cabinets, and a sink with used dishes and silverware inside.
Looking around, she felt relieved at how empty it is. Agilene
jumps down onto the floor, and readies herself for the next
phase in her sneaking mission.

"...Globemaster on the runway. We can't identify who's on there.
They will be taking off soon."
"Alright. Keep an eye on them. Follow them at a distance if they
take off. Make sure they can't see you. Report back to me where
they go." Broadshield says as the soldier with him leaves.
Walking past the lunch room, not noticing the newcomer, he makes
his way a little bit further into his personal office. It's what
you would expect from a typical office, but a lot nicer, and it
has living quarters, and a relatively large window with a view
of the Canterlot skyline below. Broadshield sits at his desk,
back to the door, as he reads the reports coming in. "Jesus.
Rioting in Manehatten, disaster in the Crystal Mountains and
Empire, the war in Saddle Arabia, our forces are so spread out
and occupied that if something happens, it's going to be a hell
of a lot harder to combat it..." He says to himself as he
continues to look over the reports.

Before leaving the room, Agilene places her back against the
wall next to the open door. There, she waits for the two ponies
outside to leave the premises. Assuming they're both far enough
from her location, she peaks around the opening. Down the empty
hallway, she finds a red pegasus entering his office. Not just
any red pegasus, but an oddly familiar one too.
It's time to find answers. Agilene tosses her bag onto the
table, allowing its contents to spill out. She shuts the door
calmly, and begins going through the documents. Pages of notes
written by her dad, pins, newspaper excerpts, and... bingo.
Hidden in a binder were a collection of photos, and pages
detailing missions Aqua had taken part of. Skimming through the
photos, she spots the pony she was looking for. Agilene holds a
group picture of Equinox members; a space at below the image
having names written on it to detail who is who from top-left to
bottom-right. Standing in the middle of the group was a red
pegasus wearing a commander's uniform. The same pegasus she
found down the hallway, confirming her suspicions. If only she
knew the name, though. Noting his position in the photo, Agilene
reads the names below. Connecting two-and-two together, she
finds out it's Broadshield, commander of Equinox.
Confident of her discovery, she packs her bag, and heads for the
door, ready to meet this commander. Agilene opens the door a few
inches wide, and peaks through the crevice for anyone
approaching from one side of the hallway. Satisfied one side of
the hallway is clear, she opens it a bit wider. As she was about
to check the other side however, another door down the hallway
opens, followed by the laughter of two stallions. This startles
Agilene, making her gasp, and immediately shut the door. It let
out a loud bang, causing the dishes in the sink to vibrate
slightly. Her teeth clenched, and her brows furrowed at this
decision, knowing that was a huge mistake.

"... The Globemaster and two F-35 Lightning fighter jets have
just taken off from the airport, bearing 352 degrees north.
Still no I'd on those aircraft and who's on it."
"Alright, there's a chance they're heading for the Crystal
Empire. Alert all Equinox forces in the north to keep an eye out
for a Globemaster."
"Roger that sir. We're also getting a lot of unknown sound.
Possibly a stray radio transmission. We cannot ID who it is,
their location, and what they are saying."
"Alright, keep me posted. He says into his earpiece before
turning it off. Sitting back in his chair he silently
contemplates over the current situation. "I thought with well
over 100,000 ponies strong across Equestria, we can defend it
easily. But our forces are spread too thin, we don't have
enough. We need to recruit more soldiers if we want tone able to
do our duty. Ah screw this, I need something to eat." He says to
himself as he gets up and goes outside. He then passed by two
laughing soldiers, appearing to have a good time.
"You two."
"Oh, Cpmmander Broadshield sir!" They say in unison.
"Which unit are you both in?"
"I'm in the Intel Unit"
"I'm in the Combat Unit"
"I want you to find your CO's and bring them to me, I need to
discuss something with them."
"Yessir!" They say before heading off. At this moment he hears
the sound of a door slamming, coming from the break room. Making
his way there silently, he stands next to the closed door,
pulling out an M1911 pistol, but just staying there, listening
for anymore noises.

So far, only three options shuffled through her head:
1. Burst through the door in hopes of escaping with her life.
2. Stay in the room and surprise whoever walks in.
3. Jump into the vent and crawl to Commander Broadshield's
room.
Already regretting the situation Agilene threw herself into, she
chooses to head for the open vent. She jumps onto the table, and
hops up to the opening in the ceiling. The weight of her body
pushing itself makes the table slide a few inches on the floor.
It lets out a low screech as it did so. As Agilene climbed into
the vent, she did not mind the extra noise being made by her.
She'll probably be out before anyone could catch her anyway. But
as if a chain reaction of unfortunate events happened, the
contents of her bag begin to spill out.
"Oh, come on..." Agilene muttered as she turned her head to the
scattering of papers all over the table and floor. Without
hesitation however, she continues her way up to the vent. If all
goes well in the end, she can always take the fallen notes back.

Standing next to the door and listening for any sounds, he can
hear a lot of scuffling from inside the room. 'This totally
isn't suspicious at all.' he thinks to himself before making his
way inside and closing the door behind him to not have any
intruders. Didn't want this to get out of hand now. Looking
around, he sees a mess of papers on the ground and somepony
trying to get into the vents. Pulling out his gun he points it
at the intruder. "Hold it right there. We can do this one of two
ways. The easy way, you make your way down slowly back down,
pick up all your items, explain who you are and what you're
doing here, and I don't shoot you in the back for intruding. Or,
if you want the hard way, you continue crawling through those
vents, I'll fire at you, and assuming that doesn't injure you in
some way, I'll have this base in complete lockdown before you
can count to 5, preventing any escape from here. So what will it
be intruder?" he says in a threatening tone to show he's not
screwing around. He quickly glances at a photo on the table,
showing various members of Equinox when it was formed not too
long ago. 'That picture, that was taken with some of the
original members of Equinox, back when we were nothing more than
a mercenary unit for Equestria. That was after the Changeling
Invasion. Is that... Aqua?' he thinks to himself before turning
his attention to the stranger in the vents.

As Agilene stayed still, part of her upper body already in the
vent, she turned her head to the new pony in the room. It came
to no surprise that the stallion holding a gun to her would be
Commander Broadshield himself. But what did catch her by
surprise is the question about her father's name after he took a
glimpse at the notes. With no other ideas left, Agilene drops
down onto the floor. Afterwards, she throws her bag off, sits
down on her rump, and holds her front hooves up to surrender.
Giving him a stern look, eyes staring directly at his, she
answers, "If you're wondering, all those files are of Equinox
origin. In fact, one of your members are the reason why I'm all
the way out here. I apologize for sneaking in. I assumed this
place would be heavily guarded, and would refuse entry from
outsiders, regardless of reason. In this case, my reason is for
gathering information."

Broadshield keeps his aim on the intruder as she makes her way
down. "How'd you know what I was thinking? You're no unicorn.
Never mind that. You are correct in assuming that you wouldn't
have been allowed in here, hell you're still an intruder. But
these photos and files are confidential. These photos and files
are from only a few years ago, around the time when Equinox was
first formed after the Changeling Invasion." he says, taking a
look at the photos, only a few members are seen. "These are the
founding members of Equinox. Myself, Szar, Bishop, Drone, Hound,
Rogue, Blast, Vulcan, and one of the first members, Aqua. The 8
of us, and a few others were brought in by the Equestrian
Government and Royalty, and were formed into a mercenary group
tasked with defending Equestria. It was known as Directive 82.
Over time, until Tirek's attack, we trained, we grew, we
prepared. On Tirek's attack, we fought back with everything we
had. Since then, we have continuously been growing, eventually
spreading out all over Equestria. We now operate by ourselves,
taking assignments and contracts, helping make Equestria a safer
place." he says to her. "Anything else you would like to know?
Or perhaps you would like to ask for something else?" he says,
keeping his gun pointed at her.

The amount of info she was given felt overwhelming. More than
she expected from the commander, in fact. But, of course, some
questions still remained. Unfortunately, Agilene is unsure of
where to start. "Firstly, you can put the weapon down. I mean no
harm here," she asked, her front legs still up. "Second, I
appreciate you providing all that information. A lot more than
the vague answers Aqua, my father, had given me. He always acted
like Equinox was a secret club, like the ones fillies and foals
would never speak about outside of school. Is it true? Is
talking about Equinox not allowed in public settings?"

Broadshield keeps his eyes on the intruder. "You got guts to
tell somepony with a gun to put it down. I'll give you that." he
says, lowering the gun but keeping it on hoof. "So you're Aqua's
filly huh? He told me about you." he says to her as he takes a
seat. "Come on, off the table, pull up a seat." he says pushing
all the fallen files and photos towards Agilene. "Yeah, Aqua was
one of our best ponies, one of the first in the navy as well."
he says, briefly looking at the photo of the group. "I'll say
this, Equinox's existence isn't exactly common knowledge, but it
isn't some conspiracy theory either. Ponies that had connections
to the underworld would've known about our existence, but
nothing more. Ponies in crime gangs, smuggling rings, terrorist
organizations, ponies that could get their hands on sensitive
information would've known. Only members of the public that had
actually run into Equinox soldiers would have known. Does that
answer your question? Or is there something else on your mind?"
he says to her, looking her dead in the eye.
