Ebony pants as he hears the dog closing in on them. Before they
can even realize it, an explosion of magma erupts besides them.
The captain covers Tinder with his wings, a pained growl
emerging as they're lightly burned. Now entering the town Plaza,
he skids to a stop by the large fountain. He lowers the orange
mare next to it. "Stay out of sight Tinder. I'll distract it
while you go find the guards." The Captain opens his wings to
make himself as large of a target as he can. The tefelhunden
eyes the noctral, the ground sizzles as its molten slobber drops
onto it. It's fangs glisten like orange Daggers as it prepares
to strike.

Tinder yelps a little as she feels Ebony's wings cover her, she
knows he just protected her from being burnt and that gives her
a tiny bit of courage she needs to get out of her mind. She
stares at him as she's placed down, shaking her head while
slowly standing up and moving towards him. She's clearly scared
but she seems to be trying her best right now, "No guard around
here will believe me. You run, I'll fight. I can hold it off for
a while."

Almost out of no where a shotgun blast was heard coming from
behind the monster as Meghan could finally be seen flying with
the weapon in her hand. She didn't intend to kill it since it's
armor seems strong, but she had to get it away from the captain
that had just saved her a lot of shoplifting troubles.

Glory hurries toward the sound she'd heard when the blast of a
shotgun firing echoes out from nearby. The earth pony changes
direction, following the apparent new location of whatever
monster was attacking, and hoping that nopony was hurt. She
arrives at the square from a side road and comes to a halt. Two
ponies stand near the fountain in the center of the plaza,
apparently having been fleeing from the large beast that was
currently closing in on them. It didn't seem to be seriously
injured despite the firing of the shotgun earlier, and Glory
curses silently that her pistols aren't likely to do much good.
Still, at least she could distract the thing from the ponies by
the fountain. She pulls out one of her pistols and takes quick
aim, firing with a sharp *crack* and a flash of green light. The
bullet strikes true on the creature's shoulder, but doesn't have
the power to truly wound it. She prepares for a charge if the
beast notices her, re-holstering her spent pistol.

The shotgun blast lands against the creatures back, propelling
it further than it had anticipated. The follow up impact to the
shoulder causes it to lose balance and crash along the floor. It
quickly recovers and eyes the new arrivals. Ebony and Tinder are
safe. For now. Facing the griffin, it inhales deeply before
firing a ball off flame from its mouth. The bright fire speeds
towards Meghan. As for Glory, the beast has another trick. With
its lanky tails wiping the air, it raises on its hind legs.
Slamming its front paws back down, the earth beneath it cracks
open. A trail of fissures rushes towards her as the tefelhunden
turns back towards it original prey.
Meanwhile, Ebony goes over his options. No weapons. No defenses.
No other guards nearby. Leaving would put the others in greater
risk; but what to do? Taking off his jacket, he positions
himself in front of the large fountain. He whistles. It entices
the creature to pounce forward. Splash! Moving out just in time,
the captain hears a loud sizzle and howl as the beast lands in
the fountain. Steam erupts from it as it quickly jumps back out,
slightly disoriented from the surprise.

Tinder watches the two new people take their shots at the beast,
frowning as she sees that it doesn't have much of an effect. She
moves back quickly as Ebony whistles, not wanting to be in the
line of that. A small smirk appears as she thinks of a plan,
moving farther away as she closes her eyes and focuses on her
magic. Doing her best to make the beast as cold as possible.

Meghan dives out of the way but her shotgun flies out of her
talons and under a dumpster across from where she is. Trying to
keep a low profile, the griffon begins to drag herself towards
the weapon before the beast notices.

Glory leaps to the side as the ground splits open beneath her.
It hadn't been the sort of attack she was expecting, and so she
wasn't able to dodge as deftly as she might have. She still
clears the fissure well enough and reorients on the beast,
taking the time to make sure Meghan had managed to get out of
the way as well. Thankfully, the griffin seems fine, though she
had evidently dropped the shotgun. Glory hopes she retrieves is
quickly, as her own pistols are only going to be so effective
against the monster. She draws her second pistol as the bat pony
manages to make the hound pounce into the fountain, and she
regrets that there just isn't enough water to do much harm to
the thing. Sadly, she doesn't know the area well, so while she's
certain there's a stream or pond in town somewhere, she has no
idea where it would be in order to lead the beast to it. She
takes aim again as Tinder starts to do some sort of magic to it,
though it's difficult for Glory to tell exactly what she's
doing. She fires again, hoping to continue to distract the
monster while Tinder does whatever she's doing.

The tefelhunden slightly recoils at Glory's second shot. But
it's Tinder's magic that draws its attention. The beast
viciously snarls as it sprints towards the mare. Baring its
molten fangs it leaps into the air to claim its first victim. A
mere foot away, and it drastically changes course when tackled
into the fountain by the noctral as he roars in defiance. A
cloud of steam engulfs the two as they wrestle for control. At
this point, the stoic captain himself seems to have gone feral.
Eyes sharpened like a dragon, he digs his fangs into the
creatures hide as he tries to keep it in the water as much as
possible. Despite his efforts, the demon dog manages to sink its
teeth into the Captain's shoulder. Ebony yelps. Blood prying out
of his shoulder, staining the water crimson. With a jerk of its
head the tefelhunden flings the stallion like a rag doll into
the stone fountain. Crack! The tip of the fountain breaks off as
he collides with it, crashing into the other side. Struggling to
get up, his vision blurs. His head feeling light as his eyes
feel heavy. Pouncig back out, the dog prepares to strike at
Meghan and Glory. It suddenly stops, looking towards the forest
as if called upon. Wasting no time, it's mouth opens and plumes
of smoke steams out of it, creating a smokescreen that chokes
the air.

Tinder seems to be concentrating too much on her magic to even
notice the beast heading for her until Ebony tackles it, she
stares at them with fear in her eyes, really wanting to help but
having no clue how to right now. As soon as the beast jumps out
of the fountain Tinder runs towards Ebony, hopping into the
fountain and making her way over to help him stand. It's around
the time that she reaches him that the smoke fills the air,
hauling her cloak off she quickly dips it in the water that's
left and covers Ebony's nose and mouth with it, knowing that it
will help with the smoke filling the air. Tinder starts coughing
loudly as she breathes in, having no way to protect herself from
inhaling the smokey air around her.
