Art of the Blind
By: Clarity Date: April 29, 2016, 8:54 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
"Okay, Clair, you go ahead and wait here," Clarity says, gently
lowering him from her back to sit in the corner of the store,
near the entrance. It's an arts and crafts store, not a super
big one but enough to serve their purposes. She waves to the
cashier on duty with a cheery grin and turns back to her
brother, noting the dim, almost imperceptible glow from his
eyes. She knows he might not be able to hear her over whatever
sounds he might be hearing, but she asks anyway. "You don't
want anything special, do you? Just the usual?"
Clair's brow knits in confusion, apparently too caught up in
whatever might be happening soon. "Nevermind," Clarity mutters,
leaning forward to kiss him on the forhead, which earns a light
giggle in response. "I'll be back to pick you up. Remember,
don't move from there until I move you," she reminds him,
probably unnecessarily but you never know for sure with Clair.
With that, she turns and starts browsing the aisles. She
already knows what she's getting and where to find it, but it
gives her a chance to socialize.

It's about a day after Tinder came from Manehattan, she has
spent the first day resting and recovering from the fight, but
now she figures it might be good to get out. Wrapping up her
wound and putting her bag on over it she heads out, deciding to
head to the art supply store to grab some things that were
destroyed in the fight. She needs some way to distract herself
while she heals, and she always found painting was good for
that, so she wanted to pick up supplies for that too. She heads
into the store and smiles a little as she looks around, spotting
Clair and nodding at him, saying a quick, "hello!" Before
grabbing a basket.

Agilene pushes a large box about a meter and a half in length
through the front doors of the art shop. The side of the box had
a sign sticking on it in bold, black letters saying, "TO
MANAGER." Her grunts, and the sliding of cardboard on floor
catches the attention of a few casual shoppers going about their
day. Some who are in the way move over to the side, thankfully
making her job a bit easier. But the weight of the box, and the
sweat pouring down her head, isn't helping at all. As the
package moved, Agilene picked up slight vibrations and wobbling
from inside it on her hooves. It was as if parts broke loose
during transit. She isn't sure what's exactly inside, but the
care for knowing that remains non-existent. If something broke,
it's not her problem to deal with, but her crummy boss all the
way in Detrot. Which is good, since she isn't in the mood for
dealing with an angry customer at the moment. Thankfully, this
is the last delivery of the day, which means a nice, cold drink
to celebrate.
Moving down an aisle of little trinkets and room decor, Agilene
peaks out from behind the box to keep an eye out for ponies in
the way. Unsurprisingly, there stood one casually browsing. A
yellow earth pony looking like her day is going smoothly.
Looking past the pony, Agilene can spot the store manager's door
just a few feet away from where she stood. In between her
grunts, Agilene asks the earth pony in a gruff tone, "Excuse
me!"

Clair watches his sister's life force retreat, leaving him alone
in the corner of the store. He nods his farewell to her,
settling in for a wait. He knows how much she likes talking,
and he's just fine with doing nothing until she comes back. He
occupies himself by tracking the lives walking around, and
comparing their brightness to the grass that he assumes is on
the other side of a wall. It's not really much of a comparison.
Pony life was very nearly always brighter than plant life.
He blinks as new lights appear. Ah, he must be in future mode.
And...there's one right in front of him. The light of the life
seemed dimmer across the shape's side and leaking a bit, like a
healing injury, and the light from the head seemed...flickery,
in a way. He listens to what sounds to be a female pony,
smiling at her and waiting for the premonition to end so he
could get back to watching the life move around.
And then...well, the other lights disappear, but that one in
front of him is still there. Maybe she wasn't just a future
vision. Or...was she? He shakes his head in confusion. Well,
just to be safe, he'd better respond to the last thing he'd
heard. Something about art and painting...? "No, I don't use a
brush," he says, drumming his forehooves on the floor. "I just
hoof paint."

Tinder smiles a little and tilts her head, she walks over to
him, assuming just that he had misheard her. Tinder scratches at
her side a little as she speaks, "I usually use a paint brush, I
find it harder to put in the details with hoof painting." She
sits down next to him, feeling oddly comfortable around this
pony she just met, "My names Tinder by the way."

"Hm?" Clarity looks up from a set of novelty rulers that she
doubtless wouldn't buy but were neat to look at when not being
interrupted by boxes. Boxes? Boxes don't talk, let alone
interrupt her. Oh, around the corner, there's a pony behind it.
Of course there is. Boxes don't talk. "Yes, may I help you,
ma'am?" she asks, then takes a closer look at the box, which
doesn't talk but does have convenient lettering on the side
which, still without talking, still conveys information. But
doesn't talk. "Oh, the manager. You want to get this through
the non-talking door, huh?" Oops, she let her thoughts leak
into her talking, which boxes don't do! She giggles and turns.
"I'll just get out of your way, then. Unless you'd like help
moving it? Or somepony to open the door for you?" she asks,
walking backwards to keep conversation while still moving out of
the way of the mute box.

"Hello, Tinder. I'm Clair," Clair replies, sticking out his
hoof and shaking Tinder's. Or...no, that wasn't Tinder, that
was a premonition of Tinder. Or...was he shaking Tinder's, and
the one with the hoof still down was the premonition? Well, he
doesn't know for sure, so he'll just keep his hoof down now. "I
don't really paint details, I just paint. What do you paint?"

Tinder reaches out and shakes his hoof, "It's nice to meet you,
Clair." She wiggles a little to get comfortable on the floor as
she speaks, "I paint pretty much anything. Still life, scenery,
ponies, abstract, and anything else that I am up for painting
when I pick up a brush." She grabs a couple pills from her bag
and downs them quickly, not wanting the injury to act up, "So,
what are you here to get?"

Perhaps it's just her, but it feels like the box's weight grew
heavier. It must be the exhaustion playing its role. Thankfully,
the door at the end of the aisle is close by. All that is needed
is a signature from the store manager, she is all set to enjoy
the rest of the day.
As Agilene pushed, the yellow coated pony who she had seen in
the middle of the aisle began making conversation. She peaked
around the box, and heard her offer to help. Stopping in the
middle of the path, and letting go of the package Agilene gets a
better look at her. She also savors a short moment of rest. This
pony looks like she could be of help, and Agilene admired her
healthy appearance. Nodding in response to the offer, Agilene
places her hooves back on the box. "Be my guest. A second set of
hooves could be useful." With that, she returns to moving the
container.

Clair waits a bit to reply to Tinder, making sure what she said
wasn't the result of premonition. When no flickering of life or
sound happens, confirming that it was real, he answers simply,
"Paint."
