       FFIWASGOINGTOGETAPINC-
       “
Spirit was in the process of rattling off in a panicked and
increasingly loud manner as Glory came into earshot, Mana not
being far behind as he’d have come down after her
following a failed attempt to dissuade her from getting
involved. Alacrity, standing near to Spirit quickly hushed her
back down to a quitter volume in a desperate attempt to both
calm her cousin and prevent their guests from being disturbed
any worse than she already feared.
“Spirit, sweetie,” Alacrity tried, a hoof being used
to try and reign in Spirit’s more animated one pointed
every which way to better recount her memory, “please, I
really need you to keep it down. Everything is fine! It’s
okay! Really! We can just get with the Watch in the morning and
tell them about it, mistakes happen- “
“I didn’t forget!” Spirit argued in a manner
       that suggested repetition.
“Come on, is it really so impossible? With everything
       going on right now?”
       “Yes!”
Mana and any others that would come to investigate would be in
full view at this point. The two ponies responsible for the inn,
one too worked up and the other distracted in her attempts to
calm the other, failing to see them. Mana, uncomfortable with
simply eavesdropping, cleared his throat to get their attention
and after a short start on their part the pair of mares would
give two very different responses. Alacrity was obviously
frustrated after noticing that they’d been disturbed as
she sighed and glared at the floor. Spirit pinned back her ears
in a winced, whispering soft apologies to Alacrity and the rest.
“Okay,” Alacrity said more to herself than the
others as she tried to formulate some kind of apology and walked
to the counter to address their guests, “Um…
I’m guessing you all aren’t just up late looking for
       some water?”
“We’re almost out of bottles, but the general store
on the corner opens in- “ Alacrity raised a hoof to
silence the mare behind her and forced a smile.
“If we woke any of you we’d like to deeply
apologize. We had small situation here that took us by surprise
and gave us a little bit of a scare, it’s all settled now-
       “
       “Wha- “
“And There Is No Reason To Worry. Now, as an apology and
as our offer to help you get back to bed, we have a number of
sleep aids available here in our shop that can help.”
       “Not if- ”
“We would be more than happy to offer some to help get you
back to bed if you’re comfortable using them.”
“Wait!” Spirit interrupted, this time rushing up to
the counter and ignoring the growl coming from Alacrity,
       “Maybe they can help!”

Brash had brought everything from the wagon into their room and
quietly worked the night away until the scream was heard. She
dropped what she was doing and leaped to the center on the room,
growling like an angry dog at the door, ready for something to
       come through.
This woke Tungsten from his slumber more than the scream, which
he'd assumed wasn't important to him. He steps off his bed and
heads to the door, his blanket stuck to his back and dragging
behind him. With a short listen he hears plenty of ponies
responding. "No need to worry." He grumbles, heading to the side
of his bed and retrieving his armor, "I'll be on guard."
Brash calms down and returns to her work, "I changed the runes
on your armor, they should be the normal weight again, though I
       can't tell for sure."
Once he had everything on Tungsten lays by the door, listening
for further commotion. "As long as they aren't gonna set the
place ablaze while I get some more sleep." He closes his eyes.
Carri was too exhausted to move since the scream had awoken her.
She spent the previous day at the festival with Tungsten,
although she had been the only one participating in any
       activities whilst he watched.

Nivalia mumbles and rolls on her side. "No... sleepers..." Hey
lifts and she looks around, her jade eyes glittering in the
dark. "Ugh, I was hoping to sleep a little longer. Fine..." She
waves her hoof, "I'll catch up, just go."

Tinder glances over as she sees Niv start to wake, the sparks of
her magic raining down around her face. "I can't go out there
without you, Niv... I don't know what's going on and right now I
don't think I can help anyone." Her face illuminated with the
yellow of her malfunctioning magic, showing the fear that is
crossing her eyes as she stands there. The images from her
nightmare on the edge of her mind mixed with the thoughts of
what caused the scream, some small part of her worried her
troubles managed to follow her here.

Foxtrot remains silent as the group enters the scene. He stays
mobile, circling around the edge of the room. Every window he
passes he checks for signs of movement outside. The darkness of
night doesn't help though. The stallion's scarred ear still
points to the conversation. A suggestion to ask for help piques
his interest. "What happened here? Are either of you injured?"

Glory follows Mana forward after making sure her weapons are
hidden from casual view, frowning as she catches the tail end of
Alacrity and Spirit's conversation. It sounds like somepony
broke in? Maybe? She puts on a less serious expression as Mana
gets their attention, hoping to not upset Spirit further. "I was
already awake, don't worry about it." She says, stepping closer.
Other than Spirit's hysterics, they both seem to be alright, and
there's no obvious signs in this main room of any disturbance.
"Please tell us what happened." She addresses Spirit and glances
over at Mana. "Anything you can remember would be helpful."

Nivalia groans as she rolls out of bed. Her hair a mess, eyes
half open, and a glow of her horn match her energy. "I'm up...
I'm up... Let's go-" the mare lets out a yawn before resuming,
"get going." Lightly patting Tinder on the head, Nivalia slowly
but surely stumbles out of her room and towards the commotion.
Once she and Tinder arrive, Niv beelines to the nearest
available chair and flops onto it.

"What? No, no one is hurt, of course not! And there's nothing to
remember!" Alacrity forced a giggle and strained her smile
further as more ponies added themselves to the group.
“Spirit, we’ve already interrupted their rest and
jacked up their night,” She went on through gritted teeth
and in a quieter voice, resisting the urge to bop Spirit on the
head as she shifted her eyes between her cousin and their
guests, “It’s none of their business nor is it their
problem. We don’t even know these people!”
“Yuh-huh we do! His names Mana Burn, she’s- “
“That’s not what I meant! Stop saying people’s
       names!”
“Look,” Mana spoke up in a desire to just get things
settled, “I don’t want to dig into your business and
I’m not upset over being up at this hour, but like the
others here said maybe if you explain what happened we can help
or at least rest easy knowing things are okay?”
       “Everything’s fi- “
“We were robbed!” Spirit blurted out over Alacrity,
her cousin tossing her hooves into the air and opening her mouth
to lay into her when she was interrupted a second time by the
sound of a short shout and some loud banging coming from the
stairs behind them. It continued till around the middle of the
stairs where there were two separate sounds of metal against
metal before finally that of four hooves landing on the hardwood
floor of the lobby. Thunder, rounding the corner and nursing his
       left shoulder, looked upset.
“What’s with that first step up there!?” he
demanded to know, his now very wide-awake eyes jumping between
the other ponies present, “Did no one else almost die
trying to come down? Fell halfway to Hell trying to get
       here!”
“We sand papered the wooden bits and checked the
carpet…” Spirit half mumbled as Thunder joined the
group and either didn’t hear or ignored her.
       “Someone better be dead!”
“Relax, Thunder, it’s not that serious.” Mana
       replied.
       “Well, what happened?”
“We were robbed!” Spirit repeated, pushing Alacrity
       towards a red-faced rage.
       “Stop telling people that!”
“But we were! Hey, you!” She returned her attention
to the group, Mana specifically, “You said you were in
security, right? I overheard something like that earlier today I
think. Right? Do you know anything about locks? Or magic that
can make someone invisible or pass through walls or under doors
or transform into clouds of mists and filter through cracks?
What about the rest of you, does anyone know anything about
figuring out if someone broke into a building? Like clues to
       look for and stuff?”
“Nobody broke in, Spirit, you just left the door
       open!”
       “I WOULD NEVER- “
       “Don’t be so loud!”
“What happened?” Thunder, incredibly impatient with
his achy limb bothering him, stepped up to the counter and
       outright demanded to know.
“I've already told you all that everything is fi- “
       “IwashavingtroublesleepinglikeIdosometimessoIgotoutofbedan
       dwaswalkingaroundthelobby-
       “
“AHbupbupbup!” Thunder interrupted, a hoof raised up
to Spirit’s face and causing her to reflexively flinch
back, “Nonono! None of that now! What. Happened?”
“… I have trouble sleeping sometimes,” Spirit
was easier to understand after a few blinks, the possibility of
actually getting some help maybe being enough to get her to slow
down, “When I can’t sleep I just kind of wander
around the shop and lobby tidying up and keeping an eye on
things until I feel tired enough to go back to bed, you know?
Well, tonight I was wiping down the counter and I thought I
       heard a kind of… I don’t know, a knocking? Some kind
of wood sound coming from the back like maybe someone knocked
something over or bumping into a table?
“Anyway, I decided to see if anything fell off a shelf
since sometimes we have some things get knocked around by
accident cause of the ingredients and stuff reacting to each
other. The stuff that’s supposed to settle for a bit after
being mixed, potions and the like. I unlocked the door to the
back and started looking around and I found… Uh… A
project of ours, one of Alkahest’s projects I mean, one
he’s been working on for the past few months? it was gone!
And the back door leading outside was wide open! Someone broke
       in and stole it!”
“Or, no one broke in and you just forgot to lock the door
earlier,” Alacrity, still skeptical, rolled her eyes,
“Really, we should just be waiting for the watch to look
into this tomorrow morning. Everyone, I’m really sorry
about this, please, just go back to bed.”
“I think we might actually be able to help,” Mana
claimed, doing nothing to visibly relax Alacrity, “If you
would let us, I mean. I might be able to look at the lock at
least and see if it was forced or tampered with at all.”
“Do you want me to show you into the back?” Spirit
offered while Alacrity massaged her temples.
“Alkahest is going to kill us when he hears about all of
       this…”

listening in on the conversation, wondering if she should speak
