Re: Weaver
By: Mana Burn Date: April 15, 2018, 8:02 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The griffin’s sword went nowhere and Broadshield’s continued
attempts to barter for the trade of Mana and the Pegasus were
disregarded. The decision had already been made, by his captive
no less, and there came no pleading or attempts to argue the
situation from the Pegasus though the loosening of his grip
allowed her to manage a better one of her own. Thunder raised an
eyebrow at the look given to him, clueless as to the reasoning
behind it but soon ignoring it and focusing back on the griffin
as she responded to the group.
“I already said,” she first replied to the question as to why
she and the rest felt motivated to ambush rather than talk,
“wasting my time with the same routine gets me nowhere with you.
Better to just start beating some information out of you before
you get a chance to squirrel away and hide. Shocked you’re being
so cavalier with the word ‘professional’ considering the trouble
that led here. Figures it would be a night where it’s nothing
but goodfellas to choose from...”
Turning her attention to Glory she continued with a demand,
“Explain Weaver.”
“Explain a town?” Thunder questioned, “It’s hot and there’s
cotton everywhere. Kind of lame without the festival.
Satisfied?”
“No, you idiot,” the griffin went on to clarify, “WHY Weaver?
Why some hick rest stop handing out blankets? Cloudsdale was
easy to peg and I get it with Noble, Corona and Perticity – even
Greenswill after some thought – but Weaver makes no sense. The
textile industry is too expensive an investment to rebuild, even
for you, and it would disrupt business for too long to make it
worth the effort. A buyout works here, not burning everything to
the ground.
“So why not Berylsburg? The Exchange is far more valuable and
easier to pick on. Sure, it’s more obvious, but I see nothing
that implies a solution to the teleports has been discovered yet
so there can’t be much of a concern when it comes to pulling it
off. Why waste time in some backwater hole when there’s millions
in bits being passed around in the city?”
Thunder blinked.
“… Oh…” under his breath he let out a quiet groan, “… You’ve got
to be kidding…”

Tinder simply make her way to the wall as she's been told to,
not wanting to cause more trouble by trying to leave. "Ya know,
just some friendly advice, next time you rob a place at least
try to cover your tracks. Don't smash bottles and leave a trail
for anyone to follow." She hasn't been paying too much attention
to the conversation, she doesn't care to, she just wants to get
out of here before she goes too long without a dose.

Foxtrot has remained silent so far, his glowing pupils still
remaining locked on the griffon and Mana. He backs towards the
wall a few steps, but only halfway there. The stallion's magic
has been recovering at a steady pace; if anything does happen,
he's certainly prepared. Despite the commotion of the
conversation, his eyes flick over to a corner of the room.
There's no one there, at least not in sight. Looking back to the
others, the last thing he tries is to garner any attention. How
would they be able to get Mana out his circumstance? The talking
will stop eventually; then, something will have to be done.
Fox's attention returns to the conversation, waiting to see
where this leads them.

Glory narrows her eyes at the griffin, not sure if she's just
messing with them or not. "Weaver..." she mutters as Thunder
interjects. Why Weaver? Glory doesn't know anything about why
the other's are here, originally she had assumed they were only
tourists. Then again, tourists weren't normally so good at
fighting, but exactly what their own purposes here were she'd
have to find out later. For now though... "I don't know anything
about any teleportation, but it sounds like you think we were
the ones behind the monster attacks?" She steps a bit forward
again, though not enough to seem threatening, or so she hopes.
"I suppose I don't know about them." She says, sweeping her hoof
around the barn. "I'm not even with them, as far as I know we
all just came together to investigate the break in. You were
partially right though." She would prefer not to reveal much
about her mission, but given the cirumstances, it might be able
to defuse the situation, or at least ease some of the tension.
"I am here because of that. But I'm here to investigate it, not
cause it. I'm with the Vigil." Sge looks back at the griffin,
frowning. "And how do I know you guys aren't the ones causing
it?"

“It’s called a ‘set-up’,” the griffon replied to Tinder in a
curt snap, “I was counting on you being sic’d to fetch this
little investment and it would have been real hard getting you
to follow without a trail. Trust me, if I wanted to get away
with your project you’d have never found a trace.
“Vigil you say?” she continues at Glory’s claim, “so a random
monster hunter happens to form a gang of well-meaning vigilantes
in the wee hours of the morn to solve a burglary? And they
happen to be able to toss about lightning bolts, form giant bows
of magic and so on? Convenient. This hasn’t answered my question
and I’m getting very impatient.”
“Well, she explained why she was here,” Thunder spoke up, “and
who she is, and it sounds to me like she’s looking into it and
doesn’t have an answer to give. Me though? I think I might be
able to shed some light on things. Everything you want to know
about myself and the guy you’ve got there is in his left
saddlebag.” He nodded to Mana then carefully leaned his head to
each of his wings to give the straps of his weapons a small tug
that allowed the blades to slip free and clatter to the floor.
He’d been to worked up to do so earlier but now that his head
had cleared and he was thinking more straight he disarmed and
stepped back with the rest to show enough cooperation to
encourage the griffon to listen.
“Go ahead,” Thunder raised his front hooves and wings in
surrender, “Check it. I think you’re going to get a real kick
out of what you find.” He managed a smile, though not as easy a
one as he usually managed given the circumstance.
The griffin meanwhile was clearly skeptical and narrowed her
eyes at Thunder’s urging, however as most in the room seemed
either near enough to the wall or otherwise occupied she felt
confident she could manage them if they acted up. Adjusting her
hold over Mana, she went from holding his horn to wrapping her
sword arm around his throat, her weapon’s edge now tucked
against the left side of his neck to assure a quick jerk would
bite into an artery. With her other arm free she unclasped
Mana’s bag and began rummaging, some papers and writing supplies
spilling out in the act as she searched for whatever it was
Thunder wanted her to find. Keeping her eyes on the others in
the room she brought what she found in front of her to give them
quick glances before tossing most of it aside. Muttering
something about the absurdity of a miniature library, she
eventually found a small circular object that she very nearly
threw away with the rest. Stopping short, she brought it back
for another look then slowly closed a fist around it and glared
at the grin that Thunder was now wearing.
“Oh yeah,” Thunder gloated, “I’d show you mine, but I left it
back at the inn.
“Since we’re sharing,” he continued with a glance at Glory,
confidence returning to his voice as he allowed his wings to
fold back against his body, “what she just found was a badge
given to Mana to officially identify himself as a member of the
Royal Guard of Canterlot. Day shift.” He added that last bit
with a wink while the griffin let the badge drop to the ground
with little reverence. She was silent for a few seconds, calm
and collected but clearly thinking if her darting eyes were any
indication. Eventually she grabbed Mana’s horn again with her
free claw, but this time she slowly held her sword out in front
of her.
“I’m going to put this away,” Thunder’s grin widened at the
thought but was dulled when she waggled Mana’s horn and
continued, “but I won’t be letting him go until we get things
figured out.”
“This doesn’t mean anything!” the Pegasus argued, still being
held, “Fakes and lies! An easy cover if things get out of hand!
They’re the first people I’d expect it from!”
“It ain’t fake,” the griffin replied, slowly sheathing her sword
but allowing her grip to linger as she gauged the reactions of
those around her, “shut up. That’s one of you verified, but the
rest of you are still on watch. So far we’ve got claims of two
guards and a Vigil. What are the rest of you supposed to be,
ninjas and cowboys?”

With the situation de-escalating, Foxtrot remained sitting with
his hoofs still in the air. "You can add one more to that guard
count. I have my badge though in my front pocket." His right
front hoof, still held up, glows slightly as does his pocket. It
unbuttons, a badge levitating out, then slowly over to the
griffon. It lands right at her feet. "My sister is here too."
Looking to the back of the barn, the stallion calls out, "Niv!
Come on out and say hi. You better have your bag too."

Nyx tilted her head slightly, taking in the new information. So
she was not the only one here about the strange teleportation
events. The griffin addressed the group, and Nyx watched the tan
stallion- apparently a guard- speak up. Figuring she might as
well go next, Nyx addressed the griffin. "As interesting as
being a ninja would surely be," she started, a quiet trace of
humor in her voice that probably seemed a little too casual for
the situation at hoof. "-I'm a magical researcher and theorist
from Canterlot. I'm relatively high up on the grapevine, and I
heard a rumor that I thought warranted investigation," she said
with a tiny shrug.
"Though on the topic of unanswered questions, I couldn't help
but notice you didn't exactly answer hers," she continued,
motioning towards Glory. "Why should we believe you're not the
one causing all the problems? Of course, if you're not, then
that seems to make you 'well-meaning vigilantes' as well. Which
means we're on the same side, or at the very least have a common
enemy. So why don't you let that guard go and we can all talk
and work something out..." After her attempt to fix the
situation through helping Broadshield had made the situation
worse, Nyx decided to go the diplomatic route. "And if you don't
let him go, that seems an awful lot like an admission of guilt.
Of course, that's just me," she finished with another casual
shrug.

"I always do," Nivalia answers as she steps out from behind a
stack of hay bales. Slow and steady she makes her way to
Foxtrot. Her bag hangs loosely from her back, labelled with a
green cross on the side. Once she's next to him, the "unicorn"
gives a courteous bow. "Nivalia, Chief Executive Officer of The
Herbiary. The orange mare over there is my security advisor."
Niv looks over the battered group, "I can provide medical
assistance... if allowed of course."

“Were I the one responsible at least three of you would be
dead,” the griffin dismisses the question of her innocence with
a rather bold claim while noting the badge dropped before her,
“I’d have had no need to capture or question the ones trying to
stop me, especially if I had the drop on them. As for my
companion you have there… Arum, where are you from?”
“Weaver,” the Pegasus, evidently named or at least going by
‘Arum’, answered, “born and occasionally raised. You animals
better kill me if you think talking is going to keep me from
finding you if you turn out to be here to cause trouble,” she
passionately promised from her precarious position.
“You can call this whatever you want, Grapevine,” the griffin
resumed speaking, “but I won’t be letting go of your friend
until mine is released. It’s for the safety of both her and
myself as we’re outnumbered and I’ve put away my weapon. As far
as I know the only thing keeping her alive now is the fact that
I have something I can take from you, so if you let her go I’ll
do the same.”
“Or you could just let him go and give us a reason to think we
can trust you,” Thunder countered, “There’s not exactly a lot of
opportunity for you to generate goodwill after all this, so
starting now would be smart.”
The griffin waved at Nivalia to show that she could do her work,
“If I’m going out, I’m taking someone with me,” she went on to
state with cold finality, “she goes free first, or we do this
until it gets awkward. It makes little difference to me.”
“Its like talking to a wall…” Thunder muttered with a sigh.

Tinder chuckles under her breath as they say it was a set up,
not really believing it. She nods to Niv as she enters, glad
everyone is gonna get some help. And since the attention is on
the others she takes the opportunity to down a couple doses
while she has a chance.
