Thyme narrows her eyes as Gleam seems to jump to... some
conclusion or other. She's not sure if this is an attempt at
acting crazy enough to driver her away, or a simple attack of
senility. Either way, she's not going anywhere. Even with
Gleam's outburst attracting more attention than she'd prefer,
she's committed now. And whatever he might be thinking based on
just what she's said, she did in fact bring the journal with her
as proof. Thyme hunches over a little in her chair and
unconsciously turns her face away from the crowd. He has to
believe it when he reads the journal, right? She puts on her
most determined expression, scowling as she looks back at Gleam
while he mutters to himself about it being fake. She reaches
into a small bag on the back of her chair with her magic,
pulling out a beat up old book with a faded picture of a bundle
of sage leaves inside a glass flask. "She did make a journal.
Here." She thrusts the book in his direction perhaps a little
more forcefully than strictly necessary. Inside would be pages
and pages filled to the brim, most of it being notes and
diagrams on various alchemical recipes and processes.
Interspersed throughout would be entries in a more typical
fashion, detailing the writer's experiences and thoughts. One
page in particular is marked with a frayed old ribbon, most of
that page and the one opposite being about the Cortoza and
Sage's relationship with Gleam.

Gleam squints in what is borderline a glare when he sees that
Thyme was not leaving. When she jabbed the journal towards him
he snatched it up in his magic just as forcefully as he felt was
necessary when dealing with someone he was suspecting as a liar.
He looked over the cover and side glanced back at the mare
before flipping open the pages and skimming its contents. He
immediately guessed the age of the journal as being close to
accurate for what she’d been claiming but chalked it up to
intentional fabrication and skipped over the notes and such with
little care, instead focusing on the more personal entries to
get a feel for who had written it. It didn’t take long for him
to reach the page with the ribbon, it acting as one of the
journal’s few bookmarks along with some other pages of apparent
interest to its current owner. Scanning those pages, he’d raise
an eyebrow. What was chronicled was, to put it simply,
impossible for most to know. Either it was written by someone
Gleam used to have a strong relationship with and also was
present for an otherwise routine and unremarkable time for his
former outfit - one of the few before they ended, sure, but
still business as usual and not particularly noteworthy
considering the headaches that soon followed it – or it was
legit. Either way it would explain how she’d known his first
name.
As he read there was almost the beginnings of a smile tugging at
the edges of his lips.
Almost.
“Let’s entertain for a moment the possibility that you are
telling the truth,” he spoke, closing the journal with a sharp
clap but not yet handing it back over, “or at least what you
believe to be the truth. What exactly is it that you would want
to gain from bringing this to my attention? I haven’t seen Sage
in decades, so unless you just now happened to trip over this in
an attic somewhere I’m wondering why you’d wait to say
anything.”

Thyme watches Gleam skim through the journal, though she can't
help taking a few glances to the side to see the crowd's
attention pulling back away from them. She would really prefer
they had somewhere more secluded to do this. She stays silent as
Gleam reads through the journal, missing the not-quite smile. "I
have a lot of these journals, going back a long way. It's only
recently I really read through that one. It's a tradition in my
family to pass on a journal." She turns her face away, examining
a nearby tapestry, her voice going quieter. "I never knew Sage;
she died when I was still a baby. These books are all I have
left of my family." She turns back to look at Gleam, wearing a
slight frown. "I guess I wasn't really expecting much from this.
I just... had to do it. And..." Thyme's expression softens a
bit, and she looks away again. "I thought you deserved to know."
