Changes and a Changeling - Dining Hall

Moonlight could barely focus on anything but Princess Luna, the
only reason she came to the huge gathering was to see the dear
Princess herself! Princess Luna was her idol and she may or may
not have a poster on her wall of said idol... Of course Luna
looked stunning and she was as wonderful as she imagined! The
entire time Moonlight had a goofy dazed grin on her face and
managed to ignore her twin's low chuckles at the obvious reason
why.
The ceremony was actually wonderful along with the amazing
display at the end! Moonlight adored the sight of the Princess
some more before she left, it felt like her dreams came true in
this very moment alone.
After the ceremony, the twins got up from their seats and
started to trot out of the Throne Room towards the Dining Hall.
Moonlight was excited to meet up with her date, it was a shame
he didn't get to sit with her during the ceremony but it didn't
matter once she saw his face in the short distance. She looked
over at her brother who was at her side Asher looking back,
"Hey, you and your date can meet me there. Give you two a couple
minutes of alone time, I'll be getting some food." He smirked
and trotted ahead, going towards the dining hall.
Moonlight found Schwam in the sea of faces and smiled once more,
this time with a blush on her face. This was the first time he'd
see her with her new haircut, hopefully he would like it. The
navy blue and black dress she was wearing would be another
unfamiliar sight to the stallion. She approached him with the
smile on her face but motioned for the way out the door before
they could speak. Others were still leaving the room and it was
still a little noisy, they'd talk once they were in the dining
hall.
Once there, Moonlight led the two to a quiet corner so they
could talk. "I've missed you so much!" It was a case of
excitement that she couldn't hold in any longer, the mare threw
her forehooves around Schwam and gave him a peck on the cheek.
Afterwards bringing herself back to her usual quiet tone, "You
look handsome, as you always do..." Her blue eyes roamed his
chest before landing on his necktie, as he responded Moonlight
brought out her hoof to adjust the tie a bit.

Schwambart does his best to stay awake through the speeches and
ceremony, and it works. Mostly. He's never been much of one for
public speaking, being on the giving end or the receiving end.
The light show is pretty neat, though. Still, it's all just
prelude for him. He's waiting for one mare, and that's pretty
much it. The rest is just time spent without her.
Once she does meet his eyes as he's waiting for her, though, hoo
boy. Hoooooo boy. Seeing her coming gives him the shakes all
over again. Are you sure she likes you? Yes, I've been over this
already. There's no reason she wouldn't like me. Are you sure?
Maybe she got her mane cut just to drive you away.
Right, she had cut her hair, he realizes more consciously now.
It's shorter...but still so beautiful. Well, it's not like he
liked her for the mane anyway, it was just a bonus. Still is.
Nice and thick. He opens his mouth to say something as she
approaches, but cuts himself off when she motions for them to
go. Yeah, they'd probably have to be a bit loud to hear each
other.
Of course, even in the noise, that still gives his mind plenty
of room to backtalk him. [i]Okay, so she likes you. Fair point.
But...have you considered that maybe you're not good enough?[i]
Yes, yes I have. And I believe I gave me the same answer to
whether or not she likes me. Or something like that. If this
gorgeous, cute, fun mare likes me enough to have me as her date
to the ball...well, I'd have to be an idiot to say no. More of
an idiot.
The whole mental conversation goes the opposite way from how
they usually do, with that last thought leaving a giddy smile on
his face. What an evening. He has to clear his throat before he
can respond to her in the corner where she kisses him. "A-and I
bet you n-never stopped, um, *ahem* being b-beautiful, huh?" He
leans his nose down to nuzzle her forehead while she messes with
the confounded loop around his neck, wondering if she finds it
as horrific as he does.

Moonlight's smile never faded as she spoke with Schwam,
"Y-you're too kind." It was still hard to believe she landed
such an amazing stallion, he was so kind and funny. Not only
that but there was no doubt that she was comfortable with him
around, but still a little nervous as she wanted to keep
impressing him.
Normally the large crowd gathered in the room would make her
anxious, but everything was easy to ignore as she focused on
him. His wonderful smile, his handsome face, his... his tie was
slanted. It wasn't even that noticeable either, but she couldn't
help but adjust it once more, hoping it would stay in place.
"It's so weird to be at something like this huh? The only reason
I agreed to come is..." Her eyes widen and she perks up once she
remembers Princess Luna, "Princess Luna!" She exclaimed only
slightly higher than her usual tone, which equaled to the normal
tone of anypony else in the room therefore attracting no
attention at all. "She was amazing wasn't she?" Moonlight smiled
and slightly bopped up and down at Schwam, but calmed down
almost embarrassed at her excited display, "She's uh... kind of
a big deal to me." She laughed nervously but gave him a
reassuring follow up, "...aaaannd I came for you too. Anything
to spend time with you again love." Moonlight leaned in to
nuzzle her face onto his neck, her face flushing at the amount
of public affection.

Hear that? She only came because of the princess. Oh hush up,
me. That's not how she means it at all. She's clearly super
excited to have seen somepony she must idolize a lot. His wings
shoot open with a pomf when she nuzzles his neck, and he giggles
it off, closing one of his wings and wrapping the other around
her. "W-w-well, um, uh, yeah, Luna is, *ahem* pretty neat, but,
um...I, uh, I don't know if, if um...she compares to y-you..."
Schwam loosens his tie a bit and clears his throat again. Is it
getting hot in here, or was it just her? "H-hey...L-luna,
Moon...Was she named after you, perhaps?" he asks, getting some
of his speaking confidence back long enough to make the joke.

It took Nivalia some time, but she managed to track down the
mare she's looking for. She wonders if she'll be recognizable by
her new appearance; she'll certainly be taller that's for sure.
Still, the changeling knew she had to see her again, she had to
make sure she was alright after... after that night. It was
convenient that Moonlight was in the Dining Hall; Niv was
certainly gonna get something to eat. Trotting closer, she finds
her friend with the stallion that saved her life. "Aww, they're
a thing," she says to herself. Picking up the pace, she calls
over to them. "Moon! Hey Moon, over here!"

"You're so silly!" Moonlight giggles before her eyes roam around
the room, they somehow land on Asher talking with an unfamiliar
mare. For some reason it bothered her greatly, of course another
mare hitting on her brother for his stupid 'looks'. She glares
at them before noticing her name being called out, "Huh?" Weird,
she didn't know anypony other than... she squints at the
approaching mare. Huh... she kind of looks familiar... her dark
coat and... the cutie mark gave it away along with the similar
colors. "Niv!?" Moonlight smiles at Schwam before happily
hugging Nivalia, "I...It's been so long! You look amazing!" She
retracted from the hug and stood next to Schwam again, "You
remember Schwam." Of course she does. Though... Moonlight looked
over at him, feeling slightly awkward knowing his particular set
of feelings towards the changeling...

Schwam smiles at Moonlight's laugh. Making ponies laugh was one
of his favorite things to do, and it was just so much better
when it was a mare he likes, he finds. What did you ever do to
deserve her, huh? No kidding, he thinks at himself.
He turns when he hears Moon's name being called. At first he
doesn't recognize her for sure. He knows she looks familiar, but
can't put his hoof quite on why...And then Moonlight says the
shortened name, and he remembers.
"Nivalia." It comes out cold and stiff, as stiff as he has
suddenly become, legs and back as straight as rods. The two
being friendly or not, he can't help feeling the urge to stand
between her and Moonlight, and he half steps forward acting on
that, forgetting the date jitters he'd been feeling not five
seconds ago.

"Of course I remember Schwam!" Nivalia adds. She looks over to
find the stallion repositioning himself. "I know! You're itching
for a hug too!" Wasting no time, she gives the Pegasus a gentle
embrace. A tingling feeling of warmth would wash over him for
just a moment. It fades off as she retracts from her hug. "Moon!
It's been forever. How..." She pauses, her tone becoming tinged
with concern, "How are you?"

Moonlight physically cringed when Nivalia hugged Schwam, she
knew that he was probably not too happy about it but appreciated
him holding back his feelings towards her. Once Nivalia
retracted from the hug, Moonlight followed it up by gently
rubbing his shoulder with her hoof in hopes of distracting him a
bit.
"I'm good! I've been better since being with Schwam, he makes
things a lot easier." Moonlight gives Schwam a loving look,
admiring him for a moment before turning back to Niv. Her voice
mimics Niv's concerned one, "How have you been?" She noticed her
new disguise, obviously needing one after what happened. Of
course they wouldn't talk about it but Moonlight knew the
changeling had been in some rough times, but she was thankful to
see her dearest friend was okay.

No, he most certainly does *not* want a hug! He tries to protest
but doesn't react fast enough to avoid the awful fate, so just
stays stiff and stone-faced...and slightly blushy at the warmth.
What is that all about? Then she pulls back off of him and it's
over, putting him back in curmudgeon mode. She's a changeling.
Was she messing with his feelings? Was she stealing his love? He
doesn't know just how they do it, so maybe. Is there any other
power they have that he's not aware of?
C'mon, be friendly for Moonlight. As long as she's okay and
you're okay, what's the big deal? Of course, the big deal is
that he doesn't know that things are okay, and if they are okay
he's not sure how long they will be okay. Changelings are known
for being deceitful and tricky, and who knows how patient they
are? But, things seem okay for now. But. He's probably going to
have a hard time relaxing now...He stays silent.
