       Re: Ballroom
   DIR By: Ebony Coldsteel
       Date: September 24, 2017, 8:56 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Ebony lagged behind the group due to small talks with more
political figures. He manages to catch up after the others have
taken their table. The scene has certainly livened up. A band
played some music as ponies danced and chatted throughout.
Colonel Coldsteel’s attention was brought over to them. Glacier,
Avery, Fox and Tinder were all there. Good, some support is
definitely in order. The noctral trots over to the backstage and
awaits for the song to end. Under the applause the band takes
their leave offstage. Ebony steps up and nears the microphone.
The spotlight shines on him. “Good evening everyone! Hope you're
all enjoying your night. Now, I lost a bet recently, and have
been required to do some stand up.” He loosens up his collar as
a smirk appears on his face. “I had so many jokes to choose
from, picking them was defining me batty!”
       *ba-dum tsk!*
Foxtrot looks around, hearing a few laughs, though most don't
seem to be biting. “Oh jeez, knowing him it's gonna be a whole
bunch of bat puns. Oh no, this is gonna need some… assistance.”
Ebony loosens his collar, knowing of the lukewarm reception of
the opener. “Thank you, thank you. Now I’ll getting to the
       serious stuff.”
“Isn’t that the opposite of funny, Coldsteel?” Foxtrot calls
       out, getting the Colonel’s attention.
“Oh and here we go. Looks like Mr. Trot is here in the
audience.” The Noctral shakes his head, keeping a cool smile
through it all, “Don’t start with me, Fox. Don’t start.”
“Hey Ebony! I just figured out your style,” the unicorn exclaims
with some excitement in his eyes. This was going to be fun; the
crowd, and certainly the Colonel, won’t know what hit them.
       “Figured out my style?”
“Yup. You work just like Princess Celestia.” the crowd chuckles,
rather entertained by the sudden change of pace. Ebony himself
looks rather confused by it all.
       “Wha- Celestia isn’t a comedian.”
“Well…” Foxtrot leaves it at that. The crowd starts to get a
rise out of it, several of them laughing as Ebony starts to get
       the punchline.
“Wait, hold on,” Coldsteel raises his hoof. “I’ve successfully
practiced comedy for half of my life.”
“How come we got this half?” the laughs starts to spread.
Foxtrot himself was trying to keep his focus as his noctral
       counterpart continues.
“Look, did you come to be entertained here, or not?” Ebony asks.
       “That’s right!” the lieutenant answers.
“What?” Coldsteel raises a brow in confusion.
Foxtrot leans forward, “We came here to be entertained, and
we’re not!” The audience starts to chuckle and giggle as a few
       clap to the impromptu show.
Ebony shoots the unicorn a stern gaze, “Oh yea, wise guy? I’d
like to see you come up here and be funny.”
“You first!” by now, everyone is in full laughs.
“Hahaha. The audience. Hahaha,” Ebony mirrors in a mocking tone.
“Don’t pay any attention to him, folks, I’ll tell the story
       here. You see whe-”
“Hey Ebony!” Foxtrot calls out. Ebony rolls his eyes and looks
over to him. “I know what you’re doing wrong.” He is met with a
confused look from the Colonel. “You’re standing too close to
       the audience.”
“Too close?” The noctral looks behind him and steps back. “Like
       this?”
“Further back.” Ebony steps back one more step, “Even more.”
“How far do you want me to go back?” he asks.
There’s a pause before Foxtrot answers, “Got a car?” The crowd
was cracking up, the mood certainly becoming more lively.
“Fox, if you keep this up, I’ll have the guards toss you out,”
       the Colonel exclaims.
“They can’t; they’re too busy,” the lieutenant retorts.
       “Doing what?”
       “Keeping everyone in!”
Ebony actually smiles at that one, “That… that one’s pretty
       good.”
Fox leans back on his seat, taking a sip of his drink with a
smug look on his face. “Well, you can use it.”
Shaking his head, Coldsteel continues, “Look, I don’t need your
material, pal. I have a million funny lines in the back of my
       head.”
“Well how come they never each your mouth?” A light roar of
laugher and applause fills the room as Ebony sighs.
“Well, lieutenant, you think you can do better,” Ebony inquires.
The stallion shrugs, “I certainly couldn’t do worse.”
       “Uh huh. Can you dance?”
       “No.”
“Can you tell stories or get laughs?”
       “No.”
“So what would you do, then?”
“Exactly what you’re doing!” Patrons are in stitches at the back
and forth banter between these two officers.
“Seriously Fox?” Ebony shakes his head. “My mother is right
there and you're embarrassing us. Ma, tell him.” The only thing
that echoes right after is Glacier’s loud laughter that is
       followed by the cheers of the crowd. The Colonel rolls his eyes;
she’s enjoying it too. “That’s it! Im calling the guards!” Ebony
announces, one of them actually trotting to the stage.
“Good, you’re gonna need all the protection you can get!”
Foxtrot himself couldn’t help but laugh at the infectious humor
       that’s spread.
The Lunar Guard steps onto the stage and approaches the Colonel,
“Sergeant Mazur, sir! Can I help you out?”
Coldsteel sighs in relief at the sight of his sergeant. “Of
course! I’ve been trying to do my skit and I’ve been getting
heckled by this guy through the whole thing. So yea, I’d
appreciate it if you’d help me out.”
“Alright, which way did you come in?” The crowd roars with
laughter and applause as Ebony facehoofs and motions the guard
off the stage, who seems to be giggling himself as well.
“Alright, I’ve had it.” Ebony breaks into a smile and chuckle.
Honestly, he was glad Fox stepped in. All he had were bat puns.
“Everyone, enjoy your evening.” The ponies all stand to their
hoofs to applaud the show as Ebony Coldsteel trots off stage and
       returns to his table.

Glacier applauds, loving the laughs that fill the room. Once her
son sits back down, she gives him a pat on the back. "Good job
you two. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time."
Foxtrot shrugs, "We still got it." The unicorn takes a sip of
his drink and looks over to Ebony, "Colonel Coldsteel. It's got
       a nice ring to it."
"Yea, it does," Ebony nods, "I'll just be stuck in the office
       though."

The moment Ebony first said a bat pun made Avery bury her face
into her wing. Of course he had bat puns, what else would he
       joke about?
For a second there she was worried that his performance would go
downhill, but was thankful when his friend stepped in. Surely he
stole the show but had helped Ebony out tremendously.
At the end, Avery was laughing alongside Glacier and everypony
else, enjoying the display that just occurred.
Once Ebony sat back down, Avery gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"You did a good job love... well... Fox... did a good job
technically. But uh, bat puns!" Avery gives his back a little
       rub and giggles.

Tinder laughs along with the rest as the two do their bit,
smiling at Fox as he pipes up to help this show along. She nods
at Ebony as he sits, muttering a quick, "Good job." She doesn't
have all too much to say right now, she seems preoccupied with
everything around her, watching for any danger. Some small part
of her wishing Niv hadn't convinced her to come.

Ebony rolls his eyes, realizing his routine wouldn't be that...
humourous. He wraps his hoof around Avery and holds her close.
"Yea, I appreciate the support. I may just roam around the
castle for a bit. Care to join me?"
"I as well," Glacier adds as she gets up and stretches. "There's
some familiar faces I'd like to meet once more."
Foxtrot looks over to Tinder, "That just leaves us two, then. We
gotta catch up, and also find Niv. Ready to go?"

       plenty of stories to tell."

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       (Coming from Ballroom Blitz
  HTML http://unknownfrontier.createaforum.com/the-lunar-ball/ballroom-blitz-ballroom/)
"Okay. I'll grab on to you, Brio." She keeps calling him
crouton. Not that he minds, he just finds it...noteworthy. Maybe
he should come up with something to call her. Oh well. He walks
behind Brio and loops a hoof up over in front of her tail, then
uses that to pull his other hoof up over that one to hold on,
the same way he'd been pulled by Clarity. The dove in Brio's
mane coos and takes off, flying up to the chandelier while Brio
helps Clair up onto it, with well-placed "thank you"s from him
for her help. From there they wait, while the crowd waits
expectantly, coughing politely while Clair turns around to face
off to the side of them.
Then with no warning (except to maybe Clair, who timed his
turning perfectly beforehoof), a puff of potato-scented smoke
and sparkles bursts from the stage floor a ways off from the two
ponies already on it. The audience gasps, and then the cloud
starts getting cleared in a clockwise fashion as Clarity spins
into view in the center of it, her flowing dress flared out
(giving a nice view of what's under it) and seemingly consuming
the cloud wherever it meets it, but still looking clean and
       radiant.
She finishes the spin facing towards the audience and turns the
spinning motion into a bow, her skirt flowing smoothly back down
around her legs. "Good evening, mares and gentlestallions," she
announces with a voice that isn't loud but still carries over
the open space. "Tonight, you will be pleased to be entertained
by Clarity Mirror, Beauty Queen and Magician Extraoardinaire~"
She takes another bow, while some of the crowd gives some polite
applause and others laugh at her self-proclaimed Beauty
Queenitude. She pays them no mind and takes another sweep, this
time vanishing from view as the edge of her flared skirt passes
over in front of her, simultaneously appearing over next to Brio
and Clair as she disappears from the other.
"These two cuties here will play the roles of my lovely
assistants tonight," she says, putting her forehooves around
their shoulders and hugging them against her. "Why don't you
introduce yourselves, lovelies?" She gently nudges Brio forward,
       cuing her.

Brio's grin is huge as the impromptu magic show begins but she
tries to play it cool when shes called one of the assistants and
nudged to speak. She is comfortable in doing so, stage fright
being a myth she'd only ever heard of, and she steps forward
with her chest out and wings puffed to look as impressive as
       possible.
"My name is Brio Dreamer," she announces as though half the room
didn't need the introduction, "your local hero, and expert
assistant in any and all showings of arcane whimsy." She'd been
an assistant... twice? Did the second time count? She'd sort of
made off with the hoofcuffs and wasn't actually invited to get
involved when the fire was formed into pony shapes and set to
wrastle each other. She was on stage though, so that counted,
       right? Maybe?

It didn't take Glacier long to find something to do. She didn't
even have to leave the ballroom. A crowd and performance draws
the older mare to the scene. She passes a few viewers before
finding herself near the front of the crowd. A magician? Oh and
her assistants! They're so cute. Maybe they'd like a sweater.
Glacier shakes the thought, instead waiting to see the
       performance play out.
