Tungsten listens intently to Haywire, deciphering his words,
noting that he was offering to help fix the wagon ... with a
booster? That would just make things worse.
As Merrilee started writing he once again had to decipher
scrambled words to read that she too could fix her wagon ...
then she nearly collapses.
Tungsten sighs, "Look, to make this easy, we can leave the wagon
here. I will take you and your stuff in mine to Ponyville, I
have a contact there who can pick up the wagon and get it
repaired." He turns to Haywire, "You can join too." He trots to
his wagon, "I'd help fix it here but I can't stick around all
that long." He heads toward the back, opening a tailgate. "I'll
make some room, whatever you decide."
As he enters his wagon he takes a deep breath, glad for a moment
alone after all that talking.

Having his offer to fix the damage to the side of the wagon shot
down, Hay felt a little bad as having been partly responsible
for it he felt it only fitting that he do the work and make it
right. He wouldn’t press though if this was what she wanted,
only make himself available to assist should she change her mind
and ask. Reading the messages on the board Hay was happy to hear
that Merrilee believed herself capable of fixing the wheels as
well, but, honestly, the axle was the real problem here as
wheels would be no good without repairing that. He’d noticed it
was kind of fudged and had just tried to let her know a second
ago, but he guessed she hadn’t caught that part? Maybe he wasn’t
being clear. Nah, that wasn’t it, she must have just not heard
him.
Tungsten’s offer was at first one Hay was put off by simply
because the idea of having someone else come by and take over
the job meant he wouldn’t get to work on it himself. Why pass it
off when he could totally fix it on the spot, shiny it up then
fly it to Canterlot? Or at least part way there, then they could
rebuild it and fly the rest of the way if any of it survived the
first go.
Hmm… He required counsel.
“I say we could jimmy it up and leave trails in just a couple.
With permission of course. What do you think?” Hay asked,
stowing his prybar and turning his head to the bird on his
shoulder. Silence followed for a few seconds, but eventually the
bird fell free from his shoulder with haywire catching it so
casually with a hoof that he must have known it would happen.
The bird, now laying on its side in his hoof with its claws
facing haywire, opened and closed them in what appeared to be a
pattern or code, haywire watching intently then sighing in
defeat before returning it to his shoulder and pushing his
goggles back up off of his eyes.
“I guess. Having an actual table would make the soldering easier
at least, and it was getting to be work picking out flecks and
pebbles. Alrighty, we can head back.
“Would you like a hoof with luggin’ anything?” he returned his
attention to Merrilee, calmer now that he had been talked out of
“upgrading” her wagon, “the offer stands on the dent, too. If
you want any help It’d be cake. My names Haywire by the way, and
he’s Bubo.” Introducing himself proper, Hay offered a hoof at
the first name and jerked his head back at the bird with the
second. Eventually it stiffly and jerkily raised a wing only to
have it get stuck in that position soon after.
“He’s having a rough one right now, give him a bit.”

What had started with a broken wagon has developed into meeting
two new ponies and a weird...bird thing? That is apparently
alive? Or something? Merrilee smiles and nods at the
introductions and flips her slate around, considering trying to
write her own name again...but no, she should probably wait a
few minutes more. She hangs it around her neck with a white cord
so she doesn't forget it. So what could she do...? Ah! She
bounces around to the other side of her wagon and motions for
Haywire and Bubo to follow. She points to herself and then to
the "Merry" part on her "Merry Ornaments" sign hanging free from
the slight overhang of the wagon roof. That should do well
enough for now, she could fix any misunderstandings later.
So, what all would she need to bring with her, and what could
she leave with the wagon to get it fixed? She jiggles around to
the front again and climbs in. She doesn't have a whole lot in
there in the first place. A bed that was built in to the wagon
aside from the mattress, hygiene products, plenty of chalk...and
of course her ornaments and money, but that stuff is probably
safe here.
She grabs a cardboard box that she'd been meaning to get rid of,
and packs a hair brush, chalk...might need to find somewhere to
spend the night too, depending on how long the axle took to fix,
so she packs in some toiletries as well. She doesn't want to be
caught off guard. She'll bring some money, too. Maybe she could
pay for the help. Oh, and food! She grabs a saddlebag and tosses
some apples and a bit of hard candy in. Anything else...? After
a moment of not being able to think of anything else, she folds
the box closed and pushes it to the door and motions for
Haywire, who had offered so nicely to help!

After a bit of thinking whilst organizing his wagon Tungsten
realizes that in a sense, helping ponies is the goal of Gizmo
Industries, he could treat this encounter like a job, that would
take the edge off of talking to them. He stands tall, picks up a
metal chest and walks out to Merrilee's wagon.
He sets the chest on the ground and opens it to reveal a soft
padded inside, "Put anything fragile in here, and take
everything you can, my contact can get careless so it's best to
leave her one solid item to pick up." He steps up to Merrilee's
wagon and looks in, noticing the bed. "If you need anything,
like a place to stay, my employer is fond of having ponies owe
her a favor." He smirks to himself, "She never does ask for much
in return though."
Tungsten momentarily gets lost in a memory of Brash interrupting
a meeting between himself and Copper Gizmo, having come up with
a better design for his greaves, trading the blueprint for a
favor, which is what he's doing now.
He sees that Haywire had been waved towards a box and waits for
Merrilee to hand him something to carry as well.

Merry, eh? Hay figured that would be easy enough to remember. He
watched the mare go about gathering her things and listened to
Tungsten explain the chest and his urgings to clear as much
stuff out before stepping forward and setting Bubo down beside
the box.
“Help eyeball the nick knacks, will ya?” Hay spoke to bubo, the
bird standing upright only momentarily then tipping over and
leaning on his still extended wing, “I need the shoulders to try
and impress.”
Hay lifted the cardboard box up and onto his back with a huff.
It wasn’t very heavy considering the few items hastily packed
away inside but he made a show of it anyway as if trying to
compete with the larger stallion and his ease in carrying the
metal chest.
“The burdens we bear, reckon? Bubo could share with the chest if
it gets too weighty. Just don’t let him get showy about it, else
he’ll take it all and leave you behind.” he joked as he passed
by and made his way to the heavier wagon, finding a spot that
would be secure and out of the way during travel and stowing the
container away. On his way back he dusted off a shoulder and
readied himself to help further if asked.

Anything fragile? Oh dear, that would be most of her stock,
probably, with some exceptions. She should move some of those
out, then. She wouldn't want them being broken, and she wouldn't
want anypony else to feel bad for getting them broken! She nods
in a way she hopes is taken as a kind of "thanks for the
warning, and I like your shoes" nod, then goes back in and opens
up her storage closet. Her ornaments are all boxed with packing
paper to make sure they don't knock into the walls or each
other. There are three boxes in all, and none of them is
especially large. Too many in one box could cause problems even
with the extra paper.
Merrilee pulls them out and puts them on the floor, closing the
closet door behind her before sliding the three in a line over
the wagon floor to the door. Once there, she climbs carefully
over them to climb down so she can take them, carefully, one by
one and put them in the chest. Reasonably-sized as they are, it
is kind of a snug fit...Oh, no worries. They'll be fine!

As the chest is filled Tungsten notes that the snug fit will
ensure the safety of the items inside before closing it and
picking it back up. He runs a series of things to mention
through his head but none seem important, so he simply turns
away and brings the chest to his wagon.
He realizes he should record this event in his work log before
he forgets any details. He picks up a clipboard from the front
of his wagon and begins to write in it, examining Merrilee's
cart and the surrounding area as he does. "The boss is a bit of
an information hog, so tell me if you've got anything too heavy
and I'll help, otherwise tell me when you're all packed up."
The paper on the clipboard is slowly filled with details on
Merrilee's items, the condition of her wagon, the current time
and area, a few notes on Haywire, and more.

Haywire remained available to assist and was currently too
distracted to hear the small clatter that originated from the
small metal bird he'd set down when picking up the box for
Merry. Bubo, collapsing onto the wagon he had been leaning on,
remained in a heap as he struggled to stand back up but, with
some hard work, he eventually managed to set himself back up
onto his claws and gave himself a good thorough shake to further
loosen himself up and regain control of his body. Now free of
his temporary decommission, he gave his wings a stretch and
sounded a few small chirps to which Haywire replied with a short
whistle. Bubo hopped to face the direction it came from and then
took to the air, landing on the top of the wagon first and then
gliding down to Haywire and landing on his head.
"Jeez, it's about time," Hay teased, eyes peeking up at the bird
he could barely see getting comfy in his mane, "I was starting
to guess you were just joshin and was gonna start balancing you
on your noggin and see if you could keep plates spinning." Bubo
settled down between the eyes of the goggles that rested just
beneath Hay's mane and leaned his head down to look him in the
eye, chirps following that Haywire seemed to understand. What
followed was a one sided conversation.
"Oh, so it tipped you... But we skinned it, that can't be the
mix up cause it was a dead ringer... No, I re-jostled those
before we started... It got scribbled pretty decent, I can let
you pick it on the way but we're gonna need to fry it or maybe
crumple and redo."
Apparently finishing, Haywire looked back to the other ponies to
see if they still needed help or if they were ready to go.

All her important non-part-of-the-wagon things having been
stowed safely away, Merrilee takes her board out from around her
neck and pulls a piece of chalk out of her mane to start writing
on it again.
[Im' red]
She stops when she remembers, oh right! Her shelves and sign are
still set out!
Slipping the chalk back in and setting the board leaning against
one of the front wheels, she folds the attachments back into
place, setting their latches a bit more securely than they
previously were, perhaps. That's it, right? Right. She the slate
back up and wipes it clean with her hoof so she doesn't have to
re-read it and just starts over.
[I'm ryead!]
The message shared, she clears it once more, stows it around her
neck, and bounces over next to the larger wagon.

Tungsten reads Merrilee's board, not having noticed anything
else around him, then finishes up his report and signs it before
waving his clipboard towards the wagon. "Get on if ya want." He
heads to the wagon's harness, tosses his clipboard in through
the front of the wagon and straps himself in. "Or you can walk
along I won't be going all that fast with a load this heavy."
He stretches out for a moment before getting back into his
steady pace towards Ponyville.
