With formalities out of the way, Glacier steps over to Avery and
gives her a one hoofed hug. "The pleasure is all mine, dear.
Ebony has told me so much about you." She opens the door for
them, "Come in, I'm about to set up some mid day drinks."
Stepping inside, the two would be met my a cozy little abode.
Chairs with knitted blankets and family photos resting on the
tables. It provides a certain comfort. There's also a corner
stocked with medals, ribbons, certificates, and news articles of
the Coldsteels' service to Equestria. Ebony takes off his boots
by the door and hangs up his armor by the racks. "Ah, home sweet
home. Do you still have those berry fritters?"
"Do bats sleep upside down?" Glacier replies, moving some
pillows on her sofa and patting it to have them sit. "I made
some yesterday. You two get comfortable. Ebby, I'll get your
usual. Avery, is there anything you'd like to drink?"

Avery returns the hug, smiling with slight relief. Glacier was
very kind and she immediately felt comfortable with the setting
they were in. She looks around the room before sitting down on
the sofa with Ebony all while looking at the decor and embracing
the cozy atmosphere. There were so many family photos, Avery
smiled thinking about a young Ebony growing up in this very
home.
"May I have just a glass of water please?" Avery smiles at
Glacier before she gets the drinks, then turns to Ebony. "She's
sweet, and this home is so cute and cozy."

"Glass of water coming right up." Glacier goes to the kitchen.
The two could clear the feint clattering of glass and plates.
Ebony gets comfortable on the couch, "Yea, whenever I get the
chance I stop by to say hello. This time I have to speak with
some members of the community about the research that's been
going on in the past months. But that will be tonight though."
Glacier trots back in with their drinks and pastries. "But for
now, you're both stuck with me." She places their cups and
treats in front of them. "So Avery, why don't you tell me a
little about yourself?"

Once Avery retrieves the water from Glacier she gives her a
smile and nod, "Thank you." Though she gets slightly nervous
once Glacier asks her to talk about herself, Just stay calm
Avery, don't get all antsy. Avery takes a sip of her water
before responding with her usual slightly peppy voice, "Well, I
live over in Ponyville and I work at the Library, I write
stories in my spare time too. My hope is to have a book
published one day, though I still have some time to go before
I'm ready I believe." She pauses before thinking, talking about
herself wasn't one of her favorite things to do and she was
afraid she'd sound too mundane. "Let's see...I'm sort of a
'morning' pony, I like the sunshine and daytime. Though Ebony
has been opening my eyes to the perks of the night also." Avery
moved her wing up to adjust her glasses, she was still a little
nervous. "I'm afraid there's not too much to tell otherwise,
though if you have any other questions I'd be more than happy to
answer them!" She smiles before taking another sip of water,
That was good right? Was that too cheesy?

Glacier takes a sip of her tea as she listens to Avery. "Ah, a
writer? I respect those who delve into the written art. Mostly
because we study writing as well."
"Those reports and files don't write themselves," Ebony chimes
in before earring his first pastry. He hums with delight as the
familiar flavors fill his senses.
"That," Glacier nods, all too familiar with that process, "but
also for art as well." A small smile tugs at her. "Ebony's
father... he wrote poetry. I wrote only for studies and formal
affairs. But he... he could paint a tapestry in your mind with
his words. Oh it just swept me away. Ebony himself dabbled a bit
himself." Glacier chuckles as she nibbles on her treat. "It was
so cute. Simple, but oh did he try."
The stallion grins and shrugs, "The rhyming always threw me
off."
"Still, it was so sweet." Glacier longs back over to Avery, "So
dear. If I may ask. What... drew you to Ebony? I mean... not to
sound offensive or anything but... Most mares like yourself..."
"Would run away in terror from me." Ebony concludes as he drinks
his brew.

Avery smiled as Glacier spoke, it was nice to have somepony
appreciate literature and the work that she does. Though she
wouldn't have guessed that Ebony's father wrote poetry,
nonetheless it was an interesting fact. She took another sip of
her water before bringing her attention back towards the two.
Avery could understand why Glacier was curious about the origin
of her and Ebony's relationship, it was uncommon occurrence to
say the least.
"Well." Avery paused and smiled, "When I was little, I would
read many tales about a kind-hearted hero; they always gave
others a chance before judging them. Reading stories with that
premise and many others, it shaped who I became. I try to
enforce the 'don't judge a book by its cover' rule. I have to
admit, when I first saw him I was intrigued. Not many batponies
come to Ponyville, and if they do...many times they're met with
glares. So I was naturally kind to him, and he was kind and
polite back. We spent most of the time in silence reading, but
even then...there was just something about him..." Avery smiles
absentmindedly as she speaks, her feelings just flowed out
naturally. "It's true, I can see how his appearance could
startle some, just...not me. I can still remember the complete
shocked look Ebony gave me when I first agreed to go out on a
date with him." Avery giggles before taking another sip, "I'm
sorry, I didn't mean to ramble."

Glacier waves her hoof, "Oh not at all, dear. I'm glad to see
somepony take a liking to him for who he is. When the Lunar
Guard was formed and I became their Captain, we were subject to
plenty of... unpleasantness."
"Bigotry, slurs, insults, threats, just to name a few." Both
Ebony and Glacier show some discomfort. Neither want to delve
into the details.
"Regardless..." the mother finishes her first pastry. "It took
time. However, with our efforts we were able to show the ponies
in Equestria that noctrals are not to be feared." Her smile
grows, "I'm so proud of what Ebony has done. It's given most of
us a renewed sense of pride. And to see him return with such a
lovely mare such as yourself, it just warms my heart." Glacier
suddenly chuckles, "Plus, it will put those proposals I've been
bothered about you rest."
Ebony rolls his eyes, "Ugh, they're still doing that?"
"Not since I've told them you've found someone. I've kept the
details to myself, but they've backed off."
"Good," Ebony finishes his treat, "They were getting excessively
annoying."

Avery was about to take another sip of her water before she
heard the bit about 'proposals'. She immediately placed her
glass down with a curious look on her face. It wouldn't have to
take too much deduction to understand why, though she'd prefer
to hear it from them. "I'm sorry, what's this about proposals?"
Her voice was calm, yet curious. She didn't make it into a big
deal, though her self confidence did shake a bit.

Glacier in her years learned to pick up queues when speaking to
others. Avery was no different. The noctral knew that mentioning
such things could cause some... interest on the subject. "Well,
Avery, we Noctrals hold tradition very close to our hearts and
values as a society. Honor and reputation are linked closely to
one's family name. It's not uncommon for batponies to be wed for
the sake of titles or alliances to boost a family's status. The
Coldsteel name itself is very prestigious; that's not even
including what we have done in recent years. Onyx, my husband,
created The Night Watch. He brought together several villages
and multiple families, some even bitter rivals, under a banner
of unity. Then when Princess Luna appeared and the Lunar Guard
was formed, I became it's first Captain. Then Ebony took over,
and in a few years made it a formidable and respectable force in
Equestria." Glacier finishes her tea and exhales with the
delight of the refreshing drink. "As you can imagine, we've had
several proposals for arranged marriages. They've mostly
dissipated when I informed everyone that Ebony had found
somepony. Still, there are a few who ask. Fewer still who take
bolder actions."
Ebony sighs with frustration, "Really? They can't take a hint?
Part of the reason I've stayed away from here is to avoid all
that." He continues drinking his coffee.
Glacier chuckles, "Well... they haven't all been for you, Ebby."
Ebony nearly chokes on his coffee, "W-what!? Really!? You've
gotten suitors!?"
"What? You think you're the only one drawing glances? I've had
my fair share of stallions swooning me." She blushes, "Some of
these younger ones though..."
"Mama!" Ebony leans in.
Glacier waves her hoof at him, "Oh stop! I'm old enough to make
my own choices. Onyx..." Her gaze breaks from them, rather
somber, "He wanted me to keep living life, Ebby. I miss him, you
know I do. But being here, all alone... I can't do it." She
wipes a tear from her face, realizing there's a guest still
here. "Avery, I- I'm so sorry about that."
Ebony himself appeared a bit guilty, "Yes, we're sorry if that
was a bit too much."

Avery listens as Glacier speaks, her heart aches a bit towards
the older mares loneliness. She gives the two a compassionate
smile, "There's no need to apologize, I'm sorry that I've
brought up such things. I'm also sorry if our relationship
causes any turmoil, I wasn't aware of the proposals and
traditions..." Avery pauses before glancing down, she had to
admit that she felt a little insignificant. She knew that dating
Ebony might have some challenges, but this was entirely
different. Ebony's family had a prestige reputation. Once the
other batponys see that he's with a plain and inferior pegasus
then who knows what they'll say or do.
Despite her worry, Avery had no intention on giving in. She's
never had somepony that she's been this close to before, Avery
hasn't said it yet but she loved Ebony. There was no way she'd
let others determine their relationship.
