Sona blinked in surprise, and a long, painful moment of silence
passed as Sona tried to sort out her own feelings. After a
moment, she was shocked to realize something. "I... think that I
love you too, Valentine." After saying that, she swayed
slightly, suddenly feeling even more exhausted after admitting
such a thing. "We should... we should go." She finally got out.
In the restroom, the mare stood in a stall, ear practically
glued to the door as she listened.

Valentine felt relieved. She wanted to feel the warmth of Sona
again but they were back in the public now. Valentine's gave one
last smile of relief to her significant other before returning
to her neutral, emotionless look. The scientist followed her
back into the banquet.

When they reached the room, Sona said her goodbyes, along with
giving profuse apologies for leaving in the middle of the
presentation. "I haven't been feeling well," was her shaky
excuse. The other were quick to forgive her, fully believing the
story.
As she started out of the room, she paused by Valentine. "I will
contact you if I decide you're the right pony for the job," was
all she said, and then headed out the door. Before she let it
swing shut behind her, she paused once more. She looked over her
shoulder and gave Valentine a small, fond smile, and then she
turned and was gone.
But she wasn't the only pony watching. The mare from the
restroom looked on with narrowed eyes as Sona left.

Valentine kept the expression on her face as she nodded to Sona
and looked around before beginning to make her way out. A very
tiny smile did appear when Sona turned around but it quickly
vanished with her exit as well. She did look back and make eye
contact with the pony watching Sona before heading out with the
door closing behind her.
