With one already after their quarry, one whose question was
answered, and one who looked like she was in no shape to run,
Sadowi gasped in mock indignation and did a very poor impression
of Clarity to rebuke Asher. "Am I going to- Of course I am! What
kind of question is that?"

Bella pushed her wings to their limit as she chased after the
bird, and she actually thought she might be gaining little when
a flock of... hummingbirds?... flew out of the trees below. When
they darted towards her, Bella raised her eyebrows, confused but
not overly concerned.
...that is, until one took a small chunk out of her back right
leg. Bella inhaled sharply at the pain. She shot a glare at the
offending bird, only for another one to nip at her flank. The
attacks were causing her to slow drastically, the monstrous bird
lengthening the distance between them.
The noctral's eyes strayed to the trees below... maybe she could
lose the apparently-not-normal-hummingbirds among them. She
suddenly dove down, and the hummers darted after her. Bella flew
through a small gap in the canopy and started weaving quickly
through the tree trunks. Then she flew straight at a
particularly thick trunk, speeding towards it with no apparent
intention to slow down before she hit it. The hummers followed
after her, gaining speed.
With about a foot to spare, she swerved to the left milliseconds
before hitting the tree. She clipped her wing, her eyes watering
from the pain, but continued flying upwards until she broke out
of the canopy, hoping the hummers had continued flying and
smashed into the tree.

"Well I live inside the Everfree. I guess I might as well come
and do my good deed of the day." She tried to get more eggs out
of her mane before giving up and just leaving it there.
"Whatever snatched your friend there is getting further away we
should probably hurry! The names Orchid by the way, but just
call me Lucid." She waited for Asher to lead on.

"Frrrrrrrrrrrrrr- If I didn't hurt so much I'd bop you right on
the nose for laughing at a time like this," Clarity says,
glaring daggers at Asher's laughter. She snorts at Mr.
Missing-half-his-face, too. "If you were making fun of me, I'll
give you twice as good as him when you get back!" She wobbles
back to her hooves, swaying unsteadily. "I guess I'll be at the
hospital while I wait, in case he needs it. Go show that bird
what fer!"
She totters away, making it as far as the nearest building
before she falls over again. "Nggggg...yoo-hoo," she calls to
the nearest stallion bystander.
"Uh...me?"
"Yes you. Could you be so kind as to help me to the hospital?"
"Oh, why yes. Of course!"
"Grand. And be careful with those!" she says as he bends over to
lift her onto his back.
Meanwhile, the hummers were having none of Bella's shenanigans,
their swift wingbeats causing the drone signature to
hummingbirds. They split before hitting the trunk, swarming up
in a spiral around it in pursuit of their prey.
...And promptly become prey themselves, the tree Bella chose
having been a spawning ground for a particularly large breed of
flytraps, that couldn't rightfully be called flytraps. Ponies
were too large for them, but a razor hummer was juuuuust right
for them.

Asher chuckles lightly as Clarity recruits a unsuspecting
stallion to her aid, then turns around to the others. "Well,
let's go follow the bag then huh?"
The paper bag floats gracefully into the forest, leading the
three after it.
Asher shakes his head and sighs, "What a waste of perfectly good
cookies. Once we get back with Clarity's brother, I'm buying you
all some. Or cupcakes, y'know whatever baked good you're into."
Thankfully it was the middle of the day, if it was nighttime the
forest would be 20x more dangerous. Not like the small group was
completely safe though, the Everfree wasn't a place of safety.
"If this needs to be said, just keep an eye out. Nopony else
needs to get hurt today." The glowing paper bag started to lead
them deeper into the forest, with each passing moment it glowed
a little brighter.

Sadowi flipped his damp mane in Clarity's direction, splashing
Asher and Orchid with salt water. "I'd be disappointed if you
don't when we return!"
He turned back to the two unicorns, pulling on his girth to
swing his weapons to the sides of his waist. "Sure thing, lead
the way. That's awfully swell of you, Asher, and you can let me
worry about anything scary."

With no hummers in sight, Bella guessed her plan had worked and
grinned. "Okay..." she muttered to herself as she looked around.
Catching sight of the bird, getting more and more distant, she
flew after it as quickly as she could.

The salt water got into Orchid's mouth making her spit and gag a
bit. "Did you just come out of the ocean or something good god
watch it." She was still covered in eggs and the salt water
addition didn't help.
"That's some nifty magic you got there." She tilted her head as
she followed the glowing bag observing it. "I've been here many
times before and its dangerous every time. This forest is always
changing."

A good way into the forest, the bird finally slows and dives
into the overgrowth, into a wide patch of trees taller than most
of the surrounding ones. It descends down past the canopy and
vanishes, the section of branches into which it goes rustling
for a bit before going more still. No further predators
attempted bar its way after the folly of the hummers.
The bag leads Asher and the others through the undergrowth after
their quarry. A short while into the forest, and a branch snaps
under somepony's hoof. That in itself is normal, it has been
happening already with regularity. This one, however, lets loose
a growl upon breaking, followed by many more close by.
An assortment of twigs, leaves, and branches rises up from the
ground nearby. They swirl around in patches, coalescing into a
pack of timber wolves. They slowly begin advancing on the group,
growling. Except for the one that used the branch that triggered
the pack. That one steps but falls over whimpering, the broken
branch that formed the core of its leg giving way.

Asher responded to the mare's compliment with a chuckle, "Hah!
It took me way too long to perfect this spell. One of the
hardest ones I've learned, but it's good to know it actually was
worth it."
The group continued walking after the glowing bag, but it stops
in place the moment somepony stepped on the stick.
"What the...ah crap." Asher watches as the timber wolves emerge,
not surprised one bit. He knew sooner or later they would run
into trouble. He backed up behind Sadowi and Orchid for only a
moment, another light blue aura surrounded the two and himself.
This time it was a shield, Asher didn't want to see anypony hurt
again. "Well...this should be interesting..."
