"Well now, we make haste." Ebony looks at the clock, a small
grin appearing on his face. "I'd say it's a perfect time for
dinner. We can go into the Dining Hall. The chefs can set up
whatever your heart's desire. The quality is amazing." He
stretches his braced leg out, then his wings. "After that, I
have a nice surprise for you. Of course you won't know what it
is, nor will I tell you." His floofy ears fold back as he gets a
little smug with his secret.

Avery smiles at the noctral, more so at his physique and cute
ears. "That sounds nice, I'm actually getting kind of hungry
too." She trots next to Ebony and gives him a mock suspicious
look, "The more you mention this surprise, the more curious I
get." Now that she thinks of it, the idea of not knowing what he
had in store made her a little antsy. Not in a bad way, but she
knew she couldn't use her deductive nature to figure it out. She
could press him on it, but she had the feeling Ebony wasn't the
type to give in easily. Okay, I'll play your game Ebony... Avery
pulled her own smug little smile as she followed him to the
dining hall.

The dining hall was a grandios display full of lights and
banners. Rows upon rows of tables fill the chamber. A decent
amount of ponies were already there. Chefs roll out fresh trays
of food to the most prestigious royals. As Ebony leads Avery
through the rows, he's saluted by passing guards. "The chefs
here gather from not only all around Equestria, but also nearby
nations. Just tell them what you want, anything at all, and
they'll make it." A trio of chefs adorning a deep purple attire
instead of the usual white trot out and await at a more
seclusive table.

Once the two stepped into the dining hall, Avery was in awe.
Every place in the Castle was lovely but the dining area had a
nice feel to it, or maybe it was because she was hungry.
Nonetheless, it was beautiful and even more so when she caught a
glance at the secluded table they were approaching.
"This is really lovely Ebony." Her heart warmed just being near
him but even more when she looks at his efforts for her. Avery
tucked her dress before sitting down with the noctral.

Ebony gets comfortable in his seat, "The hall does have a
certain splendor to it. I usually eat in my office, so it's a
nice change of pace." He looks over to the chefs and nods,
"Evening you three, how are you all doing?"
"Doing well, sir. Anything you and your friend would like this
evening?"
"The usual for me," Ebony answers. "Water and coffee for
drinks."
"Of course. And you, miss" the center chef asks, looking over to
Avery.

Avery brings her attention to the chef, "Oh! May I have a iced
tea please?"
Once they trot off to get their drinks, Avery leans towards
Ebony. "You usually eat in your office? This place is grand!
Plus, aren't you lonely there by yourself?" A tinge of concern
could be sensed in her voice, the mare gives Ebony a
compassionate look but smiles anyway.

"I enjoy the privacy actually. Normally I just take a nap to be
honest," he chuckles. The noctral looks across the room, "I used
to come here all the time. At night though. Now I usually work
the day shift, and not many are too friendly to chat." A
comforting smile emerges. "I could come back here if I had
somepony to have lunch with."
Several minutes pass before their beverages arrive, only one of
the chefs appear whilst the other two make preparations. "Are
you two ready to order?"
Coldsteel takes a sip of his coffee, exhaling in glee. "Perfect.
Uh, let's see..." The noctral's ears loosely flop downward as he
considers his options. The royal chef are some of the best in
the world. Add the best inventory of stocked ingredients and you
have a multitude of possibilities. "I'll have a smoked salmon
with a lemon glaze. Oh, and a side of pancakes. Mix things up."
The chef lets out a small giggle, "Of course. And you miss?"

Avery laughs at the noctrals lunch confession, "Ah, well napping
is good." She trails off and aimlessly looks around once more,
it truly was a sight to behold for a dining hall. She wasn't
used to any sort of extravagance, part of her thinks back to the
dining hall in the orphanage. Though it wasn't anything like
this obviously.
The mare turns her attention back to Ebony once the drinks
arrive. A giggle escapes her once he orders the odd side of
pancakes.
What did I want to eat? Oh jeez... Avery thinks for a moment and
turns to the chef, "Uh...could I have a strawberry and spinach
salad? Oh! With a side of pancakes also." Avery smiles and looks
at Ebony, her ears drooping at the sight of him. Don't let him
catch you ogling Avery...but he's so handsome.
The chef smiles and promptly trots off to the kitchen, Avery
avoiding her glance for a moment to take a sip of her tea.

Coldsteel takes a sip of his coffee, "It certainly is.
Transitioning from night shift to day certainly took some
getting used to. Naps helped me adjust." His eyes wander around
the room, "And there's so many ponies out during the day. Some
don't expect to see a Noctral, and their first impressions are
rather... telling. Still, it isn't all bad."
Within a couple of minutes, their plates come out. The freshly
stacked pancakes rest next to their bundled counterpart. Avery's
salad still held the fresh dew on the leaves. The deep red
strawberries melded perfectly with the spinach.
Ebony's meal was just as grand. The salmon radiated stream as
the subtle lemon scent engulfed the table. His stack of pancakes
came drenched already in syrup. Every topping and syrup was
placed on the table for their use.

She hadn't even tasted anything yet, but the food looked
amazing! The ingredients were so fresh, she caught herself
glancing at Ebony's meal too. Avery topped her pancake stack
with some blueberries and lemon zest, smothering it with syrup
afterwards.
The mare took a bite of her salad, the fresh berries melding
perfectly with the greens. Avery waited until the syrup seeped
into the pancakes before taking a bite, her eyes lit up and she
promptly took another. "I'm so glad you mentioned the pancakes,
these are the best I've ever had!" Her voice was a mix of sweet
and excited. At this point most of her pancakes were gone along
with half of her salad.
"Whoa, you weren't lying about the food. I've never had cooking
like this before." She smiles before taking a sip of her tea.
