Ebony chuckles when he hears her giggle, "Yes, yes. The rank
does have it's perks. Unfortunately I'm usually out in the field
or stuck in the office to enjoy them." The chariot glides along
the sky as it carries it's passengers towards the towering
structure of the castle. Steadily they decant back down to the
ground, landing on a marked spot towards the back of the castle.
Ebony gets out and opens the door for Avery as a line of four
guards await them. Once Avery is out, they are greeted with
salutes. Coldsteel returns the gesture, allowing the guards to
remain at a more relaxed stance.

Once they arrived at the castle, Avery let out a small gasp.
"Whoa! It's so beautiful and...big!" For once in her life her
words escaped her. The sight of the castle was truly
magnificent, but once Ebony opens the door for her she's
instantly caught off guard. Private chariot. Sir. Office. The
salutes.
Avery trots with Ebony for a moment before taking a deep breath,
"I believe you withheld some details about what actual position
within the guard you hold. It's obvious you're not just a
regular guard." Avery thought for a moment and went through the
ranks in her head, "...Captain?"
She gave him a sideways glance before taking another deep
breath, If I'm right...well that information is a little
intimidating.

"Well... yes, I uh... I'm the Lunar Guard's Captain." Ebony
leads Avery through the large, double doors leading into the
castle. The guards remain at their post, leaving the two alone.
"I'm sorry I didn't specify. Whenever anyone learns of my title
and rank, they always... see that. I wanted you to know me for
who I am, not my occupation." The halls are adorned with lavish
drapes and tile windows, each guard positioned at each
intersection giving them a formal salute. Several nobles and
representatives strolled about the citadel, conversing business
and other matters. Few look over to them, fewer still cast gazes
of displeasure or even disgust. Coldsteel's sharp eyes catches
every detail; it's not worth his time, and he knew they wouldn't
say a word to his face. Minutes later, they reach The Royal
Archives. Floor to ceiling shelves carried countless books,
texts, scriptures, and scrolls. While most were open to the
public, some sections are sealed off; either with fuzzy rope, or
a fully armed guard. Ebony was all too familiar with this place,
he honestly wanted to see Avery's reaction.

Avery couldn't help but frown at Ebony's confession, she
completely understood however. She quickly gave him a reassuring
smile afterwards, "I get it, I didn't mean to put you in a
corner like that. Honestly, you being the Captain of the Lunar
Guard is pretty interesting, but that doesn't change what I
think of you already Ebony. You've been so kind to me and I just
want to reciprocate that."
She brought her attention back to the castle interior, the walls
and ceilings were obscenely high. There were others about but it
still seemed relatively peaceful even with the positioned
guards. Avery did however notice the glances some of the others
gave Ebony, she looked over at him. He didn't seem phased, He
probably gets that a lot... It bothered her though. She never
could respect others that were so quick to judge, Ebony deserved
better than those stares. All they see is a batpony, anypony
different from them is automatically...wrong.
"So what's w-" Avery stopped mid sentence when her and Ebony
walked into The Royal Archives. Her eyes widened instantly and
she just stood there, mouth agape at the sight before her. Books
upon books covered the ceiling high walls, scrolls and texts
were in glass shelving, the light streamed through the windows
perfectly, as if she was in heaven. Avery didn't even know what
to do or say, all she wanted to do in this moment was soak up
the sight before her as long as she could. After a quiet moment
she slowly turns to Ebony, "I...this is...so beautiful..." She
glanced around the room before looking back at him, "Would it be
alright if I looked around? This place is like something out of
my dreams. Not like I always dream about books but I mean
c'mon." Avery smiles like a complete fool and smushes her cheeks
with her wings.

Ebony nods with a grin at her inquiry, "You can explore as much
as your heart's content. I myself to need to tend to work
matters, so I may be unavailable for a few hours. If you need
anything, ask the librarian for assistance. If you need me
specifically, just reach out to one of the guards." He looked
down over to his own book, one that took him to hell and back.
"Hopefully the court wizards can make something out this
infernal text."

Avery gives Ebony a smile, "I wish you luck then, I'll be
here...reading." With that, Avery walked off towards the
Librarian.
After a small chat, Avery picked out a 'few' books. While she
was in Canterlot it she figured she'd read more about the
history, and there were more than plenty of the amount of books
on the subject. Avery carried the stack of books over to a table
that sat right underneath a large window, she always could pick
out the area with the best lighting.
For the next few hours Avery read peacefully, completely in
bliss.

Ebony finishes signing the last of his paperwork, a good two
hours gone. He's able to keep up though; in fact, he actually
has little pep in his step. All except his braced one, that's
still recovering. Regardless, most of the day to day tasks are
complete; now it gets interesting. He'd been awaiting news from
the Royal Enchanters and Scholars; they certainly shown
excitement when they first saw it. Coldsteel trots out of his
office; his destination, the Royal Archives. Per usual, the
archive themselves hold a calm peace and quiet. With silent
steps, Ebony makes his way through the library towards one of
the restricted areas. He only pauses once, when he spots Avery
lost in her books. As much as he wanted to say hi, he couldn't.
What he's working on does require discretion; plus, she seemed
rather engaged in her books. Pressing on, he nods to the guard
at one of the hallways as he walks through. A couple of minutes
would pass before he would reach a sizable chamber. Several
ponies work and trot about tending to different projects and
ventures into the magical realm. The noctral leaves them to
their work and approaches a small gathering of colleagues; a
unicorn and two other noctrals.
They look over to Ebony and greet him with a smile, "Captain,
we're so glad to see you! Oh! We haven't arrived when you
dropped the book off." The unicorn of a hazel coat and blue eyes
approaches him, "Allow me to introduce ourselves. I'm Argus,
with the Royal Scholars. Behind me are Ms. Isalia and Count
Taranis. Both offered their research and resources to assist our
deciphering of Starswirl's untranslated texts. We've uncovered
numerous theories and hypothesis, but few answers."
Taranis, the taller stallion donning formal Noctral attire,
approaches the Captain, "What we have concluded is that The Dark
Comet from our stories of old did indeed exist. But it's not as
clear cut as we'd hoped. Starswirl himself had several ideas on
what it could really be, but not enough evidence to support any
claim. He knew he wouldn't be able to discover what that entity
was, but we still can."
Isalia, glances over the notes that have accumulated; her
charcoal hoof rests on a specific symbol. She keeps her eyes on
the table when she adds to the discussion, "We just don't know
which lead to follow. What can certainly assist our endeavor is
where this mcguffin is. Starswirl seems to have moved the comet
several times, and there's no record of it's last location."
"All of that will be figured out soon, I'm sure." Argus
concludes. "Regardless Captain, this is quite the discovery!
We'll let you know if we find anything."
"Thank you all for your assistance," Ebony nods. "Hopefully we
can figure out where all this leads us." With that said he makes
his exit, returning back to the library. He once again spots
Avery, and trots over to her. His ears relax and his steps
become more silent. He actually manages to sit to seats away
from her without her notice. "Hey there."

The hours felt like minutes when Avery was wrapped up in her
books. A low hum could be heard from the lilac pegasus, a small
smile across her face.
She lifted up her wing and turned another page, the smell of
'book' was so aesthetically pleasing. She was so caught up in
her reading that she didn't notice Ebony trot into the room or
when he sat next to her. A murmur caught her attention, her
glasses slightly bounced as she perked her head up to look at
the noctral. "Hm? Oh! Hi Ebony, I didn't realize you'd be done
so soon. So how'd it go?" Avery closed the book she was reading
and put it back on top of her pile.

"The day to day are sorted out. As for the project, there's a
lot of work ahead." Ebony hops onto the chair right next to her.
"Thankfully I have a team that are perfect for the task. Things
will start to kick into high gear within the next few months. So
how about you? Found any books you enjoy?"

Avery leaned into her hoof and smiled at Ebony, "That's good to
hear. I've been reading the History of Canterlot, it's quite
interesting." She stands up and stretches, her wings flaring out
a bit. "Whoa, I've been sitting alot longer than expected. I
should give these back to the Librarian, one moment." Avery
grabs the stack and flies over to the desk, giving the Librarian
the stack.
After a brief conversation with the Librarian, she returns to
Ebony, "So? What now?"
