Ebony nods as he looks into the night shy, "It... it certainly
is. It's certainly fascinating; I mean, second only to the pony
trotting next to me. With all the paperwork I do at work, I
certainly can appreciate the written art. Unfortunately I don't
have much time to read for fun, or really do anything for fun."
He glances over to her, whipping his fluffed ear, "Thank you for
coming with the to enjoy this evening. The other Noctrals treat
going out at night as work, and everyone else... well is asleep.
However, traversing any town at night tells you en entirely
different story of the place. Another world full of mystery and
wonder, one that's best shared with a friend."

Avery smiles as they walk, "That is quite...a lovely way of
putting it Ebony, but very true." She watches the trees pass
them by and the stars twinkling, it was completely relaxing.
A couple moments passed before Avery saw new lights in the short
distance, "I believe we're here." The two approach the bar and
eatery, by the looks of it the place didn't look too crowded
thankfully. She was grateful that Ebony could get a chance to
sit after the walk there. "It's been a while since I've actually
had a drink." A giggle escapes the pegasus and she quickly
adjusts her glasses before heading inside with Ebony.

The establishment had some music playing in the background as
few ponies were at their own booths and tables; the two trot
over to the open bar as an older stallion was cleaning the
counter. Looking over, his ears perk up when he recognizes the
stallion, "Coldsteel! Hahaha!" Instantly, he fills up a glass of
brandy and and ice and slides it over. The noctral catches it
with his wing as the server approaches them. "How's it going?
       Who's your friend here?"
"Briggs, this is Avery," Ebony introduces, "Avery, this is
Briggs. We go back a few years. Avery and I met at the library
yesterday." He takes a sip of his drink, "Not bad Briggs, import
       came in yesterday?"
"It sure did, fresh out the bottle," Briggs answers as he gets
another glass out. "And it's certainly a pleasure to meet you,
Avery. A friend of Mr. Coldsteel is certainly welcome here. Now
       what can I get you?"

The environment in the bar was quite nice, it wasn't too loud or
busy. Avery glanced over at a few other patrons, mostly enjoying
their drinks or laughing together. She turns her head back
towards Ebony when she realizes he's chatting up the stallion
       serving the drinks.
Avery smiles at the older stallion, "A pleasure to meet you too
Briggs." She pauses for a moment before deciding, "May I just
have a glass of sweet red wine please?"
While she waits for her drink, Avery turns towards Ebony.
"You're pretty popular." She follows it up with a lighthearted
giggle, "I can see why though."

Ebony takes another sip of his drink as Briggs prepares hers.
"Yea, my co-workers and usually frequent here after work. It's
one of the few places that stays open late into the night." The
bartender places her glass next to her and resumes his cleaning
duties. "I've known Briggs himself much longer through a mutual
friend. So Avery, what inspired you to work over at the
       library?"

Avery extended her wing out to grab her glass, she took a quick
sip before placing it back down. "Oh! Well, when I first moved
here I didn't have much other than what I had saved up
previously. I figured if I were to find a job in this new town I
was in I'd wanna do something I loved. Turns out the library was
only a few minutes away from my place, I walked in and they had
a spot open. Needless to say I was just really fortunate, and
years later I'm happy...I really love my job." Avery pauses once
again to take another sip of her wine, "I have to ask because I
am super curious. What is it that you do Ebony?" She quickly
places her hoof up and giggles, "Before you answer, I have a
pretty good guess on what it is, I just want to see if I'm
       correct."
Her guess was pretty outlandish... even for her observational
skills, though part of her thought she was wrong.

"What do I do? Well..." Ebony chuckles, thinking back to all the
things he's done in the past years. He takes a sip and answers,
"I work as one of Princess Luna's trusted guards. Administrative
tasks, research, things of that nature. Much of it is like the
work you and I did earlier today. It does put me out in the
field though, thus, the travel. Of course, the world at night is
very different no matter where you go." The noctral takes
another sip of his beverage, "I also have to memorize much of
the legal system as well, that's much more difficult than any
creatures I've fought off. Still, if my work can help Equestria
enjoy the marvels of the night, or at least sleep through it,
       then it's all worth it."

Avery was mostly surprised, her initial guess wasn't too far off
of what his answer was. Even so, she wanted to try and not make
it a big deal. "Oh!" Her ears perked up before she took another
sip of her wine. "Needless to say...I was pretty close. I'm
still in awe though." Avery smiles, trying not to think about
how insignificant her job was compared to his. He works for the
       Princess of the Night? That's...wow.
Avery turned back towards Ebony, "It makes sense though. You've
mentioned reports and 'work assignments', and no one has gone to
the Castle of the Two Sisters in years...for good reason. You
bow, which initially caught me off guard but I can see why you
do it. Also..." Avery pauses, a slight red hue covers her
cheeks, "You have scars and you're really...buff. So I initially
thought you were a security guard of some sorts, just not that
fancy." She giggles before taking another sip to calm her
       nerves.

A slight blush on Ebony's face appears from Avery's flattering
assumptions. "Um, thanks. I... try not to talk about work too
much." His ears of floof fold down slightly, "I've actually been
trying to get some time away from it all. But, things keep
popping up and... I don't know." The noctral sips his beverage
and continues, "I don't have much time to enjoy the fruits of my
labor, the work I put in. And when I do... I do it alone. I
don't have many to share a relaxing night..." His hoof tilts his
glass as he looks at his reflection, "a good drink, and pleasant
company." Coldsteel looks into her eyes; a serene softness in
them contrasts his overall rugged look. "Yet... it does make me
appreciate the moments when it all comes together, like tonight
       for instance."

Avery was quiet whilst he vented, she sympathized with him. What
he described was almost loneliness, one could have plenty of
friends and still be lonely. She could relate to that in a way,
but she knew his words rang true and if this was his night off
she didn't want to speak of his work anymore. "Hey." She gently
placed her hoof over his and returned his soft gaze, "Let's not
talk about work anymore huh? By the sound of it, you deserve a
night of peace." Avery withdrew her hoof and finished off her
wine, "What you do with the time that you have is what really
counts Ebony, not the quantity of it."
