Re: Reading The Fine Print

"Oh, r-really?" Ebony's ears perked right up at her answer.
Honestly he wasn't expecting a yes at all, the only ponies he's
ever seen attracted to noctrals were... well, other noctrals.
Equestria has grown plenty in terms of acceptance with his kind,
but there were still barriers, and he certainly knew of them
first hoof. Like a puppy with a new bone his tail swished back
and forth with excitement, "T-that's great! I'll uh... I guess
I'll meet you... here I guess? Yea, if anything I'll meet you
here around... 8? 9pm?"

Avery couldn't help but smile at his excitement, she was pretty
excited herself. Many would probably find him intimidating but
Avery wasn't intimidated by him in the slightest. She nods her
head at a stupidly fast pace, "Yeah! How about 8:30?" Avery
giggles and closes her book.

"8:30 sounds great!" Ebony says as he backs away towards the
door. He of course is too distracted and trips on one of the
chairs. A loud twack is heard as his brace slams against the leg
of the table. Coldsteel desperately tries to mask the shock of
pain running through him with a smile. It works... mostly. "I'm
alright, no need to get up. I'll just be on my way..." the
noctral gets up and limps towards the door, "I'll just be on my
way." The rest of his day seems to fly by; despite his
excitement for the night ahead, he still gets his report written
up and sent, followed by a well deserved nap. He wakes up to the
setting sun and gets ready for the evening. His leg feels much
better, but he keeps his brace on as he heads back out towards
the library.

Avery giggled only a bit at Ebony's endearing exit, though part
of her knew that had to hurt. His exit however caused the other
two ponies in the Library to turn around and stare, one shaking
his head. Avery smiled and went back to her book.
Once her shift was over she headed home, knowing that she
usually tires early Avery decided to take a quick nap.
When Avery woke up it was already 8. Whoa, that was quite a nap.
She was still in her sundress from earlier however, but saw no
reason to change. Avery looked into her mirror and fixed up her
hair, smiling from her excitement. She arrived at the Library a
little early, by about ten minutes. Why am I always super early?
Well...at least it's better than late I suppose. Avery sat on
the bench and waited.

Deciding to take the scenic route, Ebony soars through the air
under the growing night sky. It wouldn't be long before the
library came into view, and in turn, Avery already waiting for
him. He hovers down towards her, landing on his three legs, and
slowly bringing down his bad one to avoid further injury. Once
grounded, he walks over to her and greets her with his formal
bow once more, "Hello there Avery, you're looking lovely under
the glow of the moon. How was your day?"

Avery smiles once she sees Ebony in view, though his bow caught
her off guard. That's the second time he's done that, kind of
unorthodox. Even though it wasn't what she was used to, she
still appreciated the gesture. A light blush covers her cheeks
as she gets off the bench to greet him back. "Thank you Ebony,
you look very rested, hopefully you feel a little better?" She
glances at his brace, it's a good thing both of them have wings.
She would hate to make him walk around all night. "My day was
good, I got some writing done when my shift ended, and I rested
up before meeting you." A giggle escapes her as she looks at the
moon, "I'm usually a early sleeper, but there's no way I'd wanna
miss out on this." Avery smiles and moves next to Ebony, "So
what did you have in mind?"

"Well I'd figure we'd get something to drink to start off. After
that a simple walk or fly across Ponyville," Ebony answers. He
looks over to his brace and stretches that leg out, lightly
cringing at the dull but expected pain. "My leg is getting
better. It may be uncomfortable but I do need to apply some
pressure to it to recover. If anything, we can walk to get the
drinks, then fly the rest of the way. Nothing too exciting or
extravagant for tonight."

"That sounds perfect!" Avery smiles and starts to trot off with
Ebony towards the local bar. It was a little different, she
usually wasn't one for the night or one for bars but she did
like the occasional drink, and it has been a while. Plus, she
was always up for a little adventure. "So Ebony, do you live
here in Ponyville? I know you mentioned something about
Canterlot earlier, but I don't like to assume things."
Walking around during the nighttime had a certain pleasantness
to it, there weren't as many ponies around and it was relatively
quiet. Overall it was quite peaceful, though she'd prefer the
sunshine any day.

Ebony is lost in his surroundings of the night; the warm air,
the calm breeze, and the ocean of stars above. It wasn't often
that he was able to enjoy a night in peace. Lamp posts
illuminated their path through the empty roads towards their
destination. "I live over in Canterlot, but I do travel here
enough to have a place to live if I need to be here. Work takes
me all over Equestria though, but I always have a special spot
for the village I came from. I haven't been there in years. What
about you?"

The more Ebony spoke, the more curious she had become about what
he was...other than the obvious noctral. She was trying to
mentally piece together key words from her interactions with him
to help her out, but she couldn't focus enough. Avery enjoyed
their walk so far, and listening to him speak about himself. She
pauses for a couple moments before responding, "Wow, that's
amazing." Her tone was in actual awe, by the sound of it he was
a busy stallion. "I'm originally from Stratusburg, I spent most
my life there. I moved here to Ponyville when I was 18, I love
it here though. It's perfect." She stops there however, she
didn't want to reveal more about her past, it definitely wasn't
something meant to be brought up at a time like this. "I would
love to travel though, nowhere in particular...anywhere really.
Everypony thinks Librarians are boring and just want to read
dusty books all day." Avery lets out a giggle, knowing perfectly
well she's poking fun at herself. "As true as that might be in
my case, I want to see what's out there. I'm a writer, one day I
want a book published. I have ideas in my head but seeing new
places could give me so much more!" Avery's voice oozes with
optimism and happiness, "There's just some things you can't get
from a book, and I want to experience them..."
She honestly didn't intend going on a rant, but there was
something about Ebony that made him easy to talk to. "I didn't
mean to go on a whole spiel, I apologize." Avery pauses before
she turns to him, "Thank you for bringing me out tonight, I
honestly have a new appreciation for the night...it's quite
beautiful."
