Ebony's eyes widen and his floofy ears perk up at Avery's last
question, "Oh that's right, I didn't introduce myself." Whether
it was out of habit as a guard working around royalty all the
time or just the act that he kind of wanted to impress her,
Coldsteel gets up and formally bows, his wings outstretched.
They, just like the rest of his body, show several scars
throughout; none appear to be too severe, but each have their
own story. "Coldsteel, Ebony Coldsteel. My apologies for not
st-" His injured leg suddenly jerks up, reminding him of his
condition. Ebony takes a deep breath and simply decides to sit
back down. "I uh... also appreciate the offer for medical aid. I
just have to keep pressure off of it, other than that I should
       be fine."

Avery was surprised when Ebony bowed in front of her, mostly
staring at his wings. She was more surprised when he had another
sign of pain, a light gasp escaped her; She didn't like to see
anypony hurt. Avery was relieved when he sat back down, "Ebony."
She smiled, his name was nice too but she knew if she attempted
to compliment him it probably wouldn't come out well. "Well,
like I said earlier, I'll be more than happy to give you
       anything you need."
Avery buried her head back into the books, something she did for
hours every day. She knew that the two of them would have plenty
of time to work on this, nopony would show up until the
afternoon and even if somepony showed up, it would always be
       quiet.
Her eyes scanned through each book, easily reading across the
two. Every once and a while she would adjust her glasses, then
       continue reading.

The next couple of hours would by rather quietly; the skimming
of boots or the scraping of pencil on paper really being the
only sound heard by the two. It was relaxing for the noctral, a
good change of pace from running and gunning down hordes of
demonic entities. It was even more pleasant with Avery with him.
He couldn't put his hoof on it, but her demeanor made him at
ease, comfortable. A chance to lose himself in his thoughts
while still being somewhat productive. By the end he was able to
gather several pages of notes and translations. Unfortunately,
the library of Ponyville lacked the more specialized texts
needed to further delve into the machinations of Starswirl's
work. Closing up the last book, Coldsteel takes a deep breath
and stretches, "Well, that was actually pretty relaxing. I'll
have to head back to Canterlot to sort out the rest of what's
going on in this book, but I can say I've made good progress. Of
course that's thanks to your professional expertise, Avery."

Avery giggled at Ebony's remark, "It was nice reading something
different for a change." But she couldn't help but frown
afterwards, "I'm really sorry we couldn't find more. But
nonetheless, I'm glad to have been some sort of help to whatever
you were looking for Ebony." Avery stood up and stretched out
her hooves, there was nothing she loved more than a nice read
but it wasn't good on the back at times.
She managed to sort the books back into a relatively neat pile
on the table, all in alphabetical order. Avery turned to Ebony
and smiled, "This was nice." She looked around the Library, only
a couple ponies accompanied them but it was still as quiet as
before. She quickly glanced at the large clock in the corner,
       "And time flew by huh?"

"It certainly has," Ebony answers as he gets up and stretches,
"Fortunately I have nothing else planned today so I can just
rest, relax, and give my leg some time to recover." His eyes
wander around the library, "It's... really peaceful here. It's
not often that I can enjoy serene silence for this long. When I
get a chance I should just spend whole days here to unwind, wrap
my mind around a good book," he quickly glances over to Avery,
"and even better company." The captain picks up his book and
notes, and pushes in his chair. "Well, Avery I should get going.
I have a report to send out to Canterlot and small errands to
run. Once again I uh..." Coldsteel pauses and tries not to sound
so formal, it is his day off after all, "Thank you. For
       everything."

Avery involuntarily blushed as Ebony talked, however she managed
to keep her composure towards the stallion. "A good book is all
you need sometimes." Avery smiles and shifts slightly, grabbing
some books from off the table. "You're welcome here anytime! I'm
here most days so if you come in you'll always see a friendly
face!" As she walks him to the door a small bout of confusion
hit her, A report to send out? What? I wonder what that means...
She quickly shook it off and opened the door for the stallion,
not wanting him to exert any more of his strength. "You're
welcome Ebony, I hope I see you around." Avery smiles before he
leaves, it was nice to have company around the Library if only
       for a little bit.
Avery put away the books from earlier before immersing herself
       into another.

Ebony was only a few steps out of the library before suddenly
stopping. He looks down at the book and notes, and once again
was beset by haunting imagery. As much as he hated to admit,
most of his memories were of things like that, or just... work.
He couldn't explain why, but something just drew him to look
back to the library door. A bit of nagging in the back of his
mind kept growing louder and louder until he sighs and returns
back in. Looking around, it takes him some time before he's able
to find Avery. Coldsteel had to admit, the librarian was rather
cute with that sundress. He catches himself staring and shakes
his head. The noctral trots forward, mixed feelings of nerves
and excitement swirling within. "Uh, hey Avery." He scratches
the back of his head, his gaze wandering around, "I uh... I
wanted to ask you something." His ears fold back as he waits for
her to finish what she's doing.

As usual, Avery was so into her book that she hadn't even
realized Ebony came back into the Library until he said her
name. She looked up from her book, quickly adjusting her
glasses, "Ebony? Did you forget something?" She looks back at
the table they were sitting at to see if there were any notes
laying about, but it was empty. When she looks back to him, his
ears are folded back which causes hers to do the same. "Yeah, of
course. What did you want to ask?" Avery was genuinely confused,
she closed up her book and gave him her full attention.

"I uh, wanted to ask you..." Ebony's usual cool exterior gained
from years of experience in the guard suddenly seems to be
elusive to him. Honestly he was rather cross with himself; the
noctral was able to go to Tartarus and back but now he was
choking up at a simple question? He takes a deep breath and goes
for it, "Are you doing anything tonight after work? I have the
rest of the day off after I send my report, unfortunately I
don't have anything else planned afterward... Well, a nap
probably since I didn't sleep much last night but after that."
Once he managed to get his words out, he started to calm down.
Whatever answer he got, he can at least take solace knowing that
       he took a chance.

Avery's heart started to race a bit, her breathing got slightly
heavier but her ears perked back up once she understood what he
was asking her. This never happens, many pass by her without
acknowledging her in the slightest. She looks at his face,
clearly he was a little nervous. Avery wanted to try her best to
sound composed so she takes a deep breath and smiles at him. "I
don't have any plans, I'd like to spend some more time with
       you."
