Re: A Night to Forget

Foxtrot was taken aback from her sudden outburst, completely
broken out of his stupor. Her words certainly sink in, the
unicorn meeting her gaze the whole way through. He was silent at
first, not really knowing what so say; then, his ears perk up,
"You're right, Mesa. Someone going through that isn't broken.
Everyday they get through, they mend, they heal, and they become
stronger than what they were before. I... I don't know.
Sometimes in life you get stuck between two bad choices and you
have to make a call either way. Really though, the only thing
you can do is learn from it; mature, grow. It's never easy, but
at the end of it all, it's worth it." Foxtrot's face starts to
redden slightly; partially from the alcohol, and partially from
embarrassment. "Thank you Mesa, for... understanding. I really
appreciate it."

Mesa listened, and she wanted to believe it, she really did. She
gave Foxtrot a small, tentative smile. "You're welcome." She
glanced at the guard by the door Foxtrot had indicated earlier.
"Should we get back to planning on how we're going to get past?"
She asked, desperately wanting to get off this subject before
she revealed more than she wanted to.

Foxtrot finishes his glass and looks over into the crowd, "Oh
yea, uh..." He taps his hoofs on the table before suddenly
stopping, "So for a distraction, we can... start a bar fight;
try something on the stage over there, maybe a comedy bit, or
one of us can lure just the guard away and the other sneak
inside to get the information." As a waiter trots by with a tray
of drinks, Foxtrot lifts up his hoof; it brightly glows as a
glass levitates over to him and he takes another drink. "I'm set
with any option, so the choice is yours."

Mesa raised her eyebrows when Foxtrot's hoof glowed. She didn't
think she had ever seen another unicorn use their magic like
that. She opened her mouth to ask about it, before she decided
that they should probably focus on their goal. Questions could
be asked after they both got out alive.
Trying to get Foxtrot to feel more comfortable- she had noticed
the slight reddening of his cheeks- she put on a nonchalant look
before teasing him. "Well, I don't know... The last idea would
be great, if only there was a handsome stallion around that
would be up to doing the luring."
...shoot, had she said the "handsome" part aloud?! Well, it was
too late to recover now, so Mesa just smiled and hoped Foxtrot
didn't notice.

Foxtrot certainly noticed Mesa's compliment, his face getting
slightly redder as he looks away. "Alright, I'll head over there
and chat him up. I'll try to draw him away from the door, just
sneak on in when you see an opportunity and be careful." The
unicorn gets from his seat and adjusts his suit. He glances over
his shoulder to her, "By the way, if we're throwing compliments
around..." he pauses, thinking of something clever to say,
"You... uh... you're really cute." Realizing it wasn't the most
clever thing he can think of, he just trots off in a quick pace
towards the guard. Foxtrot suddenly stops when he notices two
well dressed mares by the bar. Hatching up a new idea, he trots
over to them, "Excuse me ladies, my name's Fox. I'm a friend of
that gentlecolt standing by the door," he sighs, looking rather
distraught at the whole thing as he lowers his tone. "Listen,
he's... a bit uptight. His shift ended half an hour ago and he
really needs to loosen up. Now, he's not one to drink, but he
certainly can't say no to some company. Can you two... I don't
know, break him out of his stupor, get him on the dance floor?
The poor guy rarely smiles and I just... I don't know, he needs
it." The two ladies look at each other before looking over to
the stallion by the door. With a nod and a chuckle they get out
of their seats and head over to him with a couple of drinks. A
chat here, a drink there, and in no time they whisk him away to
the center of the club for some fun and festivities. Now, with
the path clear, he looks over to Mesa and waves her over.

Mesa blushed furiously at the compliment, rather glad that
Foxtrot trots away before he could notice her awkward, silent
reaction. Recovering a bit after a moment, she watched
carefully, waiting for an opportunity. She was surprised when he
changed the plan, but quickly got up and trotted over toward
him. She left her case on the seat, deciding that stealth was
more important that having immediate access to her bow in this
situation. "Nice work," she told Foxtrot. She glanced over,
making sure the guard wasn't watching before she murmured,
"Let's go." Leading the way, she opened the door a bit and
slipped inside.

Foxtrot follows through the door, which leads to a flight of
stairs and another door at the very end. It would only take
moments before the two were at the top. The unicorn presses his
ear against the door and remains silent. "It's clear," he
whispers. He tries to turn the knob, only to find it locked,
"Crap. We need a key... or some other way through the door.
Hmmm..." The stallion looks down at his hoof and shrugs; it
glows brightly again as he presses it on the door knob. A loud
hum is heard as his hoof vibrates against the lock, "Come on,
just a little bit more." Suddenly, the door clicks and swings
open. "Ha! Nice! Alright, let's take a look around." On the
other side is an office with large windows overlooking the club.
A large desk sits at the center as file cabinets rest on both
sides of the room. "Files, folders, anything that looks like a
manifest or inventory log."

"Hey, that's cool!" Mesa whispered as Foxtrot got the door open.
She made her way into the office, looking around for a moment
before heading to one of the filing cabinets. Opening it with a
quiet click, she started quickly looking through it. Coming up
blank after looking through one drawer, she shut it and started
on the next one.

Several minutes of searching would pass before Foxtrot finally
clicks open one of the drawers of the desk, "Oh hoho, here we
go! I think this is it!" His excited expression becomes more
serious as he reads it, he mutters a few cuss words before
folding up a couple of papers and putting it in his suit. "We
need to go, now. Also..." Foxtrot scours for a pen and paper,
finding it, he pulls out a separate document and writes down
some numbers from it. "17, 8, 95... good. Ok, let's get the
fudge out of here!" The unicorn places everything back where he
found it and makes his way to the door.

Mesa stopped her searching as Foxtrot called out, and she
trotted over to him. She simply nodded at his last comment and
turned towards the door to follow him. She was just relieved
everything had gone so smoothly up to that point.
