Bravo and Zulu were silent, letting Lima finish speaking before
looking at each other. "Did you want to continue from here?" The
minotaur inquires.
"Yea, sure." Bravo answers. The rumbling of hooves outside are
matched by the silhouettes of troops rushing down the hallway.
There was still an attack underway, and there are still
questions. "The main technical brains behind The Phantom
Initiative was Director Oscar. Lima, you've met him before he
uh..."
"Heart failure, yea. I remember him." Lima nods, leaning onto
the table. "Did you guys kill him too?"
Bravo reels back slightly, "What? N-no, he legitimately died by
natural causes. That proved to be the problem. Oscar was skilled
in the arcane, several decades under his belt creating golems,
mathematical algorithms, and philosophy. To him, the Initiative
was a test to push his creations. The end result of his work...
I can barely explain it."

Lina, who had intended to use this time to work out what do
about her mission- something she still hadn't figured out, due
to the way events had occurred- couldn't tear her attention away
from the conversation at hoof. Her curiosity just kept growing,
despite it not really having anything to do with her.
So she kept listening. She was so interested in getting the
whole story that, at hearing Bravo's last comment, she cut in
and gave a curt, "Try."

Bravo was silent for a moment, gathering his thoughts on how to
explain what was going on. "Alright, I'll try to simplify it as
best as I can. Oscar created this construct starting out as if
it was any other golem. You give it a command, it follows it.
Pretty straight forward but something that simple is too stupid
to do what we needed it to do. So for the next few months he
refined it to extremes. Remote activation and deactivation
through external sensory triggers. The capacity to not only
prioritize it's objectives, but to think freely and adapt to any
obstacles it might run into. Heck, it could even learn! Analyze
itself and make adjustments if need be; there were limits
though..." The Director catches his breath taking another moment
to pause to collect his thoughts.

Lima was dead silent, focusing just on what Bravo was
describing. Things started to make sense; loose thoughts tying
together to see the whole picture. But there had to be more. The
things she's witnessed. The training, the conditioning, all of
it. None of that could've been accomplished by just an advanced
construct. When the stallion began to stall, the former agent
leaned forward, "Such as?"

Lina's eyes widened slightly. Golems? She had heard of that sort
of magic, but not of somepony actually being able to wield it.
And a golem that could learn... How remarkable. She
automatically copied Lima, leaning forward as well as she waited
to hear more.

Bravo looks each in the eye, his wings slowly stretch out to get
comfortable. "Well, Oscar, at his age, had an odd sense of
humor. He wanted this construct to learn not only logic and
commands, but feelings, emotions, stress, all that bullsh!t. But
he couldn't create it by scratch. So, he looked to the
Initiatives test subject for that. The construct would mimic the
nature and emotions of the host."
"We all thought it was a bit strange," Zulu adds on. "But his
work was showing results, so we let it slide. Within the year he
made his first construct, aptly designated, Alpha."
"The beginning." Bravo chimes in. "He wanted to make more. But
his medical condition was worsening. Oscar's days were numbered,
and we all knew it. We have him the time to himself to make his
second one while we trained Alpha and the dragon to coexist."

Lima was silent, the farfetched was actually believable. The
years of the psychological conditioning with Fox, the usage of
the triggers; dots were starting to connect. She couldn't let
herself become distracted though, there's still more to learn.
Zulu yawns and scratches his chin as he gets his two cents in.
"It took some time before the two were able to adjust. Within a
month they started field te-" A sudden rumble lightly shakes the
facility, the subsequent alarm rings as the sound of hoofsteps
echoes in the hall outside. "Well, sh!t..."
"The Hidden Daggers," Lima says as she gets up, her goggles
hanging loosely from her neck. "They're gonna break the
Directors out."
"No they're not." Bravo chimes in. A tense pause follows as the
two Directors realize their situation. "They're here to kill
us."

Lina just blinked at the new information. So absorbed in her own
thoughts, she jumped slightly at the rumble and alarm.
She got up as well, glancing at the Directors. "And what a
tragedy that will be," she said, her voice positively dripping
with sarcasm. She turned. "Lima. I hate to point out the
obvious, but I have a feeling that we won't have much more time
for questions..."

Lima gets up and starts for the door, "You're right, Lina. So
let's go see the last one. Zulu, Bravo..." She's look over to
them, her ocean blue eyes appearing conflicted. "Thank you. Come
on Lina, let's go."
"Hey, Lima!" Bravo calls out, getting the mare's attention.
"When you see Yankee, tell em Bravo says '@#&% You!'."
Zulu leans in, "Make that double for me too."
Lima nods, she was going to tell Yankee that herself anyway.
"Will do." The guards enter back into the room and escort the
Directors out. A second pair of guards appear shortly after.
They offer the mares' weapons and gear. "Thanks! Where's Yankee
being held?"
"Solitary confinement, about half a kilometer north of this
place. Samiel has authorized the access and is at the perimeter.
The Hidden Daggers are arriving."

Lina strapped on her sword and looked at the guards. A slight
chill rippled down her spine at their last, rather ominous
comment, but she didn't do anything beyond turning to Lima and
giving a short, "Let's go."
