       Alpha and Omega
By: Agent Lima Date: March 12, 2017, 6:25 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The wheels of the dune buggy seem to glide on the hot pavement
under the scorching sun. She got the news, but she didn't want
to believe it. There's no way. It couldn't have gotten that bad.
Beads of sweat trickle down Lima's forehead as she speeds across
the open road. A sign comes into view, 'Calais: 10KM'. She
didn't believe the report at first. Her agent wouldn't...
couldn't do such a thing. Not by himself, not... no. Lima's hoof
presses harder on the accelerator, a storm of dust kicking off
the back of the vehicle. It wouldn't take long for her to get
there, but when she did, the buggy came to a screeching halt.
"Oh no..." The mare gets out, lifting up her goggles to see one
of the most shocking things in her life. Staring down from the
tip of the hill, Lima sees the entire town of Calais flooded
from the river running beside it. Only the tops of tall enough
buildings remain above the surface, most of those though are
caught aflame. But what's most haunting were the bodies. So many
bob up and down in the water like spoiled fruit. Some faces are
shown lifeless, while others face the depths below. A cold chill
runs up the agents spine. "I... I have to find him." Running
back to the buggy, Lima drives along the outskirts of the town
looking for someone, anyone that could still be alive. Suddenly,
she sees somepony. More specifically, her pony. Slowing the
vehicle as she gets close, Lima finally stop and gets out. Just
meters away sat a brown unicorn with a green jacket. Coated in
mud, blood, and bruises, he just sat still as he looks over the
ruins of Calais. Speechless, Lima slowly approaches him and
stops just or of reach. "Fox? A-are you ok?" There's a thump.
Lima looks down and gasps as a stallions head rolls onto the
ground, it's glazed over eyes peering at her. With a shudder,
the Handler is struck with her agents gaze, his eyes glowing
brightly. They increase in intensity, blinding her until she is
       surrounded by darkness.
Lima shuffles around in her bed before waking up. Poking her
head out of the covers, she looks at the clock on her dresser,
5:17am. "Ugh..." Unable to sleep, she drags herself out of bed
and out of her room. Noting Lina's sound slumber, the former
agent makes her way to the kitchen. Straight to the fridge, she
pulls out a bottle of water and takes a sip. It's going to be a
long day, and her pay dream certainly didn't make things better.

Lina was in a deep sleep, filled with snippets of dreams that
shifted and changed before each one was even comprehended. Lina
was sitting in the backseat of car, watching the sun set outside
the window. She was on her rear legs, holding a long bamboo
staff clumsily in her hooves before an old stallion disarmed her
with his own and gave her solid, painful hit across her legs.
She was running down a dark tunnel, chased by fanged shadows
that vaguely resembled two diplomats she knew very well...
Lina finally moved, shifting a little on the sofa, but not
       waking.

Lima looks over to Lina, a small grin tugging at her face. It
was nice having someone around. Working alone was practical in
staying hidden, but she missed someone to talk to, even if it
was minimal. The pegasus starts to make her way back to her room
when suddenly the phone in the living room starts to ring. "Holy
shi-" She rushes over and picks it up. Although Lima hopes Lina
wouldn't wake to that, chances are she might be awake now.
Sighing, the agent puts the phone to her ear. "Hello?"
"Lima!" Samiel's voice barks through the phone. "Where are you!?
What did I tell you and Lina about the Directors!? Is she with
       you too?"
His accusation catches her of guard, "I'm at a safehouse with
Lina. Samiel, w-what's going on? Why are you calling so early?"
"Put Lina on the phone. I need to ask her something right away!"
Lima rolls her eyes, "Just... hold on." She turns around,
looking rather frustrated that she has to bother her.

Lina shot up into a sitting position at the ringing, only half
awake but already reaching for her sword before she realized
what the sound was. "Whaz goin' on?" she slurred sleepily, eyes
half closed as she looked over at Lima.

"Uh, it's Samiel." Lima answers, taking a few steps towards her,
but stays out of striking distance. "I'm just gonna toss this
over to you, don't slice me open okay?" The mare vaults the
phone over, landing it onto the pillow next to Lina. "I'll grab
you something to drink." She trots to the fridge and grabs a
water bottle, repeating the same steps with the phone and
       plopping it onto the pillow.

"I'm not gonna slice ya," Lina muttered, yawning and looking
more than a little annoyed at being woken up. Picking up the
phone, Lina cleared her throat and spoke more coherently.
       "Samiel? What is it?"

"Lina. I need your honest answer on this. What did you and Lima
do when you met the Directors?"
As Samiel asked his question, Lima looks around for something.
Something is off and very wrong if he calling this early. In
moments she finds the remote to the small TV sitting across the
sofa. The mare plops down and takes a sip of her water. Turning
it on, nothing but static shows up. She flicks through the
channels, her blue eyes looking for a newscast.

Lina's voice was harsh as she responded. She didn't need a
reminder of her failure the night before. "We met two of them.
Lima asked some questions. She didn't get many answers. Then we
left, and that's it. Why?" she snapped as she only half-watched
       Lima flick through channels.

"So, it wasn't you then. Alright, at least that's certain."
Samiel follows up with some low murmurs and curses in Prench.
       "Lina, listen, the Directors- "
"Holy sh!t!" Lima cuts in as she switches to the local news
feed. There are no censors, so the two mares are met with a
grisly scene of blood and bodies in the very hallways they've
stolled through yesterday. The newsfeed headlines of guards
being brutally slain, and the possibility of the Directors
escaping. "Samiel! Juliet and Romeo, did they- "
"They were killed, Lima. Honestly they got the worst of it."
There's a pause, "The media is being denied access to their cell
while an investigation begins. Their breaks have been ripped
right off their faces, it looks like whoever did this used them
to write something on the wall. Remember Alpha."

Lina nearly dropped the phone at Lima's interruption, her
attention immediately turning to the television. Her jaw
dropped, and she swore loudly in Marean. She wasn't upset over
the Directors' deaths, obviously- they got what they deserved,
and a tiny part of her was overjoyed that justice had been
served, even if it wasn't by Lina's sword.
However, she was mostly shocked. "But Samiel, that almost seems
like... a warning. Or a punishment. But they didn't tell us
anything about Alpha. They refused. Who could have done this?
And why? Because the Directors talked to us at all? It seems a
stretch that the attack was unrelated to our visit, with the
       timing..."
