Asher is relieved when he sees Ebony plop right back out of the
portal, aaaaaand there's dead hounds. The group springs into
action pretty quickly, Tinder working on the remaining
creatures. Asher looks over to the other side of the library
where one of the soldiers was pinned underneath a large table.
Instinctively, Asher runs over without hesitation. He keeps his
voice calm and lighthearted, completely opposite of how the
situation was currently going. "Hey, I gotcha." He easily lifts
the table off of Rogue, a light blue aura surrounding it.
Without thinking, Asher tosses the heavy table into the two
creatures Tinder had in her icy grasp, causing one of them to be
pinned underneath the said table and the other had a gaping
wound in it's head causing it to bleed profusely onto the faded
       floorboards.
"O-Oh. Okay, wow." Asher chuckles to himself, "That worked out a
lot better than I thought it would." He turns back to Rogue and
helps her up slowly, not sure of her current state.

Rogue nods to Asher as he removes the table pinning her down,
before picking up her revolver that was knocked to the ground.
"Get the other two out now" she says, motioning to the two
soldiers that were still stuck. She then joins Wyx and Fuze and
fires at the spider demon, each shot making new holes in the
arachnid's body, black ichor oozing out. Eventually, being
overwhelmed by Tinder's magic and the hail of bullets, the
spider lets out an ear-piercing wail, only to be silenced with
one final .357 Magnum round to the creature's head. The soldiers
take cover behind a overturned table, and reload, with the other
two still struggling to get out.
Outside, the rain slowly begins to let up, going from bucketing
to just regular downpour of rain. The spiders an now falling to
their superior Reaper opponents, cutting them down in a hail of
gunfire as they try to retaliate or escape. Any escapees are
burnt alive by the efforts of the EQUINOX flame trooper and his
two guards. Assuming there wouldn't be any other surprises, this
would be another victory for the ponies.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
With the spider demon killed, the monster of terror was the last
one left. His wings spread out as he steps next to Tinder. He
sees her fatigue, and places his hoof on her shoulder. "Don't
wear yourself down, Tinder! Help Asher get the other two out.
I'll deal with this one." That being said he launches into the
air towards the creature. The demon, breaking free of its icy
restraints, manages to lift the table. It vaults it towards the
approaching Noctral. Ebony, with no time to veer off course,
simply fires four slugs into the table. It iced over enough for
him to kick it with his back hooves. A loud crack goes off as
the table shatters into pieces. A searing jolt of pain ruins
through the captain, but becomes suppressed by the adrenaline
       coursing through his veins.
The terror demon tries to get up, but it's sent by back to the
floor as Coldsteel's boots land on its torso. It flails around,
it's chilling voice ringing across the chamber. "I'll swallow
your souls! I'll swallow your souls! I- gah!" The barrel of the
shotgun rams down the creatures mouth.
Ebony stares down the creature with fangs glaring and eyes
narrowed. Seething rage emanates from his glare, the likes of
which could stun a manticore in its place. He lets out a low
growl before pulling the trigger. The demons head explodes all
over the floor. It's dark ooze splatters onto his face and
armor, the Noctral himself looking like a creature from he'll
itself. He takes a deep breath and sits down, the rush of combat
subsiding to the growing pain in his legs. Wings just drooping
down, he catches his breath before turning to the group. The
others will make it, but the loss of just one is already too
much. His stone cold glare softens, showing weariness and
fatigue. Getting up, he slowly approaches the group, his hind
left leg already limping. The mission was a success, and now it
was time to head home. A tattered tapestry catches his
attention. He picks it up with his teeth and heads to the fallen
soldier. this wasn't a new sight, but it never got easier to
see. Ebony's ears fold back, the regret of wanting to prevent
this taking hold. Draping the tapestry over him, Coldsteel wraps
him up, and hauls him onto his back. His jaw clenched at the
pain, but he pushes it to the back of his mind. He needed to
know thus feeling; to push him to do better next time. "Is
       everyone alright?"
The last of the spiders outside have dispersed or died. The
victors would be able to get to the team without any more
resistance. The rain itself subsides to the glowing sun, which
has now begun it's descent towards the horizon.

Tinder jumps as her shoulder is touched, her magic icing up her
legs before shutting off all together. She nods a couple times
as she's told to help, using the last of her magic to help free
the two trapped soldiers. As the last shot rings out, the last
words from the creature filling the room, she finally gives out.
Out of magic and out of energy, she's exhausted. Collapsing onto
the floor as her balance leaves her, she's the lucky one of this
group but this has taken its toll on her.

Asher assists in helping Tinder free the two soldiers,
everything is finally over. He's concerned when Tinder collapses
to the floor, but thinks she'll be fine with time. Asher sits
next to her for a moment, giving her a slight reassuring smile,
"I know it doesn't matter much what I think, but you did really
good. Your magic is impressive." He sits for another moment to
catch is own breath, but decides to leave her be for now.
Exhausted but still in relatively high spirits he trots over to
Ebony. Given the circumstances of what just happened he refrains
from an overly optimistic remark, not wanting to be insensitive.
Instead, he chooses a few hopeful words. "It'll be worth it." He
sighs as he takes a quick breather, this wasn't what he was
expecting when he was told they were going to retrieve a book
but we knows the knowledge within will prove its worth.

The final sound of the shotgun blast silencing the last demon
forces the Reapers to turn their heads towards the direction of
the sound. The head splattered on the ground, mixed with
rainwater and the occasionally twitching body is a gruesome
sight, but a welcome one, signifying that the battle was finally
over. A somber feeling washes over the Reapers, their eyes,
which are the only visible part of their face, downcast at the
reminder of their fallen brother. As much of an idiot he seemed
to be, he was still their friend, their brother in arms. Some of
the Reapers still able to stand without issue make their way
over to the body of their fellow Reaper and pay their final
respects before assisting Ebony in hoisting him onto his back.
Rogue helping carry one of the other Reapers that had difficulty
in walking, and through gritted teeth, from both the pain and
the bitterness she felt, she simply stated "I hope it was worth
this..." before beginning to lead the others to the door.
The last of the spiders were finally gone, whether it be through
a hail of gunfire cutting them down and ripping them apart or
them fleeing into the dark corners of the forest, they were
finally gone. "Wait, what about the commander?" one of them
asks, before all the Reapers charge into the building. The
EQUINOX soldiers on the other side begin to radio in. "Firefly
1-3 to base, we need engineers at the Castle of the Two
Sisters..." The Reapers make their way into the room where the
others were, and before they can say anything, they notice the
wrapped up body carried by Ebony, and slowly part ways to allow
them to walk through, some bowing their heads, some saluting,
others muttering a silent prayer, all for their fallen brother.

The sun had begun to set when Ebony had finished writing his
report. The brace on his leg remains a subtle reminder of what
kind of enemies they had faced. Demons, straight from the bowels
of Tartarus. His ear flicks as he continues writing. The book
rests next to him; unknown symbols line the outside of the
cover. Coldsteel sighs and scratches his head, the thought, the
sight of losing Glaz was still fresh in his mine. Rogue was
right; the book, this whole chase, it better be worth it. Once
they'd arrived back at the base, everyone was given the proper
medical attention. Nothing had happened since, and he hopes it
stays that way. Taking a deep breath, he gets up from the
makeshift desk, placing the book into his satchel. Turning to
the exit, the Noctral trots outside. He spots Tinder and Asher
first, Rogue and her team were over by another tent. One hoof at
a time he approaches the two unicorns, "Asher, Tinder. I'm glad
to see you two safe. I can't thank you enough for helping us
out. You both can expect something at your doors in a couple of
days. I still have paperwork to do, but you two can head home.
After today, you both deserve some rest. If you'll excuse me, I
need to get back to it. You two have a safe evening." With a
warm smile and nod, he departs to see the others. The escort
team did one heck of a job. The Captain reaches the team,
"Rogue, you and your team did pine hell of a job. Szar should
already get the report by now. I'm... I'm sorry about Glaz."

It took Tinder a while to get up enough energy to stand up and
follow behind them, the trek out exhausting her even more. She
takes her time avoiding the medics and heads over to a slightly
more secluded spot, laying down and curling up. The thought of
having to walk home is not something she wants to deal with. She
glances up as Ebony approaches, flashing a weak smile. "No need
to thank me.. but if you don't mind, I think I'm going stay here
for a bit. Rather not pass out from exhaustion on my way home."
She lets out a yawn and curls up again, closing her eyes to try
to rest a bit. Unless someone want to carry her home, she
       doesn't seem keen on moving.

Asher said his farewells to Ebony, "Yeah, glad to be of service.
Good luck with the book." He sighs as he starts his walk home,
That...was not what I was expecting. Needless to say, it was an
interesting experience. He would die a happy stallion if he
       never saw another demon again.

Upon arriving back at the EQUINOX checkpoint, the Reapers lay
down their fallen brother in the field hospital set up there,
and let the coroners do their job while the rest of them got
patched up. Once they were all checked out, a small impromptu
ceremony was held with the assistance of some Ponyville
residents, the Rangers giving their final farewells before the
body was loaded onto a helicopter and flown back to Canterlot to
be properly buried. By the time Foxtrot arrived to see the
Reapers, most of them were already gone, namely the ones that
were outside the castle. The only ones left were Rogue, Wyx and
Fuze. Even then, the latter two were already beginning to board
another helicopter preparing to depart, although Rogue wouldn't
be going with them. "Thank you Ebony. Szar will be sure to pass
on the report to Commander Broadshield." she says, before her
tone and expression grows darker "EQUINOX was designed to be the
best of the best in Equestrian military, but unfortunately they
had failed in keeping their presence hidden. That's why we
Reapers were formed, to be an elite version of EQUINOX itself,
which itself is the elite Equestrian military forces. But today
we failed, we lost a fellow soldier, with others injured. In
every operation I've led, I've never had a casualty or fatality,
until today. I'm determined to make whoever's responsible for
Glaz's death pay. Pay for our failure, and pay for his death.
That's why, with yours and Broadshield's permission, I would
like to assist you in this little hunt of yours in any way I
       can." she says.
