The Quest for Knowledge

With the group banded together and goal in sight, the
expeditioners tread into the Everfree forest. The trek through
the woods actually goes well. The bright, sunny day illuminates
their path; which is in it of itself mapped out. Small talk,
quips, and the calm silence accompanies them until they reach a
large clearing. In its center stood the ruins of the ancient
castle. The towering stricture was eerie yet magnificent in
design. Pock marked with holes and cracks, the large double
doors at the front are the only thing that appears to be firmly
secure. Feint clouds seem to be coming from the south, due to
the wind passing by, a cool air breezing past our heroes.
Captain Coldsteel looks over the castle with a mix of caution
and awe. To think that the princesses once called this citadel
their home. What secrets still lie within? What magic could
still be locked inside? He snaps himself back to reality.
"Alright everypony, here we are; the Castle of the Two Sisters."
His eyes look over to them, "We'll make this as quick and to the
point as possible. Rogue, three of your team cover the back, two
up front, you're on point with me. Tinder, Asher, stay in the
middle. If anyone sees anything, I mean anything out of place,
you call it out." The noctral takes a deep breath. "Let's move
in." With that said, the captain starts forward towards the
castle doors.

Tinder was doing her best to stay calm in the situation she's
in, she just got herself on Equinox's hit list and is about to
enter an old dangerous building with a bunch of their soldiers
with guns, not exactly the best circumstances. During the walk
she took two more doses, a couple pills in each dose, bringing
her up to a dangerous amount but she needs them to keep herself
semi calm. When Ebony says her position she is obviously a
little disappointed and worried, she doesn't even know this
Asher guy, how is she supposed to trust him? The only person she
trusts here is Ebony, so she goes to her place near Asher,
figuring Ebony knows what he's doing. She nods once to Asher
before taking one last dose, hoping it'll last the whole trip.

Throughout their trip through the Everfree Forest, Asher was
completely in awe of the scenery. He's never been in this part
of Equestria before, though there's a first time for everything.
Despite his optimistic behavior, he had to admit he felt a
little out of place. Ah, traveling to an ancient castle with
strangers...what an adventure! Asher kinda lost himself in his
thoughts. He smiled though, This could be an opportunity to do
something good.
At last the group reached a large clearing, with the castle in
sight his jaw dropped. The castle was way more beautiful and run
down than he had thought! Asher tried to hide his enthusiasm
when thinking of all the knowledge stored in the place. So many
new things he could learn! How could one not be excited?! From
his side Ebony spoke to the group, giving them their positions.
As they got closer to the castle, there was a pang of worry
within him. Whatever they needed him here for involved his
knowledge with magic. He was very confident with it, he spent
most of his life studying it...but would it be enough? Asher
perked up, I'm not going to overthink anything, I got this.
He happily followed Ebony's orders, taking his position next to
Tinder? He was pretty sure her name is Tinder. He looked over to
her, noticing the look of worry on her face. He frowned for a
second, thinking how she reminded him of his sister. Asher shook
himself out of any negative thoughts, he needed to be 100%
attentive right now. He smiled at Tinder, knowing it probably
wouldn't make her feel any better but it couldn't hurt.
The group was moving in, Asher wondered what would await them.

The platoon accompanying the group completely flank the V.I.Ps
Ebony, Tinder and Asher. None of them make eye contact with any
of the ponies, either they look forward, or look around into the
forests, scanning for any threats. Thankfully for everyone,
there is nothing there. Upon arriving at the clearing, Rogue
silently signals for many of the soldiers to surround the
castle, soldiers covering all entrances into the castle, as well
as covering both sides of any and all bridges leading to the
castle. All but 5 soldiers are on patrol around the area, those
5 accompanying the V.I.Ps into the Castle itself. Wyx the
support gunner is among the 5 soldiers accompanying the group,
all of them now getting into their positions. Rogue goes up to
Ebony and says. "Alright Captain, I got at least 40 of my
soldiers locking down on the perimeter, 5 with us, so we should
be safe and secure. Just what are we looking for, and where
would be the best place to start looking?" she asks, trying to
get as much information on the mission at hand as possible.

The captain places his hoof on the front doors. "Our destination
is the Lunar Wing of the archives. I have a map to it, but let's
make sure the castle is clear." After taking a deep breath, the
noctral presses the doors open. A loud creak echoes across the
expanse as they slowly reveal the main lobby. The light cracks
in, flooding the chamber. The torn banners, turned over
furniture, and tattered books dot the area. The large windows
allow considerable illumination. "Everypony keep an eye out, and
watch your step." Reaching into his armor, Ebony pulls out the
map Luna gave him. He trots further into the castle, looking
around for any distinguishing features, "It's halfway down the
atrium, then a left. Slow and steady everyone."

Tinder nods a couple times as she listens to Ebony, she trusts
him and his judgement, she knows it's best to follow his orders.
Her horn shining for a second as a few of her usual ice weapons
appear around her, constantly circling her, ready for an attack
from any side. She knows all the rest have guns, but she needs
to have something to protect herself, she can't rely on soldier,
especially not ones with her magic in their weapons. She knows
she's disposable, they have what they need from her, they have
her magic, if it all goes bad she doubts they will protect her.
As for Asher, she doesn't know him, she doesn't even know if he
can fight, and he has done nothing so far to earn her trust.
Her ears constantly moving, listening for anything out of the
ordinary. Her eyes keeping watch to the floors and walls ahead,
wary of any traps that may lay in their way. If her life has
taught her anything, it's how to spot security and traps, even
of the most crude and simple design.

Asher trotted down the eerie abandoned halls with the group,
taking note of his surroundings. As he looked around he could
see how this could've been a nice castle in it's prime. He
should be wary, maybe even scared. This is definitely new for
him, he now knew that vague letter they sent him was vague for a
reason. This was a little weird.
As they headed through the atrium it was quiet. 'Quiet' was a
broad term, more like you can hear a pin drop at this point. He
noticed everypony was on guard, which he should be too. Asher
hoped there wouldn't be a fight, even if there was there was
more than enough guards. He never truly fought before, but knew
a multitude of defense spells and wouldn't be afraid to step in
if need be.
At this point the noise filling the silence was just a bunch of
creaks and hoofsteps.

Each soldier then proceeds with the rest of the group. Although
the ruins seem deserted enough from the inside, one could never
be too careful, especially considering there are two civilians
and a Captain present. Two guards and Rogue stick with the main
group, while Wyx and the other two guards move ahead, scanning
every portion of the area before indicating it is safe to
proceed. Eventually the three on advance come to the left at the
end of the atrium, weapons pointed down the hall. "Halfway down
the atrium then go left you say? I think this might be the way
Captain." Rogue says in a hushed voice as she motions towards
the three guards watching the left. "You're the one in command
of this mission, how do you wish to proceed?" she asks, the
soldiers ready to follow out any orders given by either Rogue or
Coldsteel.

"I'll take point." Coldsteel answers as he brings his shotgun to
bear. "Rogue, get me a sitrep on how things are outside.
Everypony else, stay close." Cautiously the Captain trots down
the hallway. It wouldn't take long before the group is greeted
by a set of large double doors. The symbol above it is faded,
but matches the one on the map Luna provided. "Alright, this
should be the place."
He steps forward and places his hoof against one of the doors.
It takes some force, but he slowly pushes it open. With a loud
creak the chamber reveals itself to be the appropriate archive.
Rows upon rows of shelves and tables as far as the eye can see
stretch out. Books by the hundreds line the wall, and done of
the floor as well. "By the moon... this place is huge." He turns
back to Wyx, and a nearby guard, "You two, guard the doorway.
Tinder and Asher, I need you two with me. Everyone else form a
perimeter, 30 meters."

Tinder nods and moves up closer to Ebony as he tells her too,
her knives all circling overhead. She glances back at Asher and
the soldiers and frowns, "Do you really trust them, Ebony?
They've already threatened to kill me, should we really be
exposing more people to them?" If Broadshield was here this
would be a different story, but he's not, these soldiers are
under anothers command. Can she really expect them to care about
someone like her?
