A Hard Day's Night
By: Opal Illumina Date: February 26, 2017, 1:05 am
---------------------------------------------------------
"Heave... Ho!" grunted Opal as she leaned her back against a
metal box almost half her size. Covering the large shape was a
grimy, dusty tarp with edges at the bottom covered in dirt after
being dragged across the ground. Beads of sweat poured down her
forehead. While the cool breeze that lightly blew by helped, it
wasn't enough to ease the struggle. Opal stopped in her tracks
and peaked around the container. She gazed down the long
sidewalk. The path ahead was completely straight, and only a
fifteen minutes away from the stadium. A weak grin grew on the
exhausted unicorn's face. The way seems so close, but she felt
like she had walked the entirety of Macintosh Hills while
carrying a camel, where it should be the other way around.
Giving a glance at the park across the street, jealousy coursed
through her veins as she watched fillies, colts, and other
ponies enjoying rest of the day as the bright, orange sun began
to set. Opal imagined herself joining them for a couple seconds
before she threw herself back into reality. She continued to
push on. While the stadium crew were counting on her to deliver
the box, she was ready to give them a piece of her mind.

After a few hours of leaping from roof to roof, bounding over
alleyways, and leaping onto shingles, Foxtrot finds himself in a
distant part of the city. With the sun no longer peaking high
above the clouds, the air was cool with a crisp breeze. One way
or another he found himself within eyesight of a large stadium.
It was a familiar sight. Concerts, ceremonies, even training
drills are held there. What stuck out though was a certain large
object slowly but surely making its way to the stadium. The
unicorn's eyes narrow, finding a point trying to push the object
down the sidewalk. His ear flicks, and with a chuckle he hears
down to street level. In a brisk trot he approaches the mare.
"Hey there. Do you uh... need help with that?"

Opal's ears perked up at the sound of trotting behind her.
Following the sound was a voice of somepony that offered to
help. "Finally!" she sighed loudly with glee. "A miracle!" She
stopped in her tracks, and with a quick turn, she gave the pony
a quick look. He was a unicorn just like her; hopes of him
owning magic strong enough to push the monstrosity that was the
container were fairly high in Opal. The green jacket he donned
with the armor-looking plating underneath made her assume he is
in the army.
Aside from appearances, the satisfaction of having a second pony
to share the misery with was as good as opening a present in
Hearth's Warming Eve. With haste, Opal scooted over to the left
end of the side she pushed, and pointed to the other end. "Put
your hooves on that end, and we'll roll out!"

"Sure thing! Let me just get a good look at this...whatever it
is." He does a quick trot around the object, noting the size and
dimensions. Ending up on Opal's other side, he gives her a quick
glance over. Finally, he presses his front hoofs against the
strange item. After getting a feel of the weight, the unicorn
glances over to her. "Alright, if you want you can just walk
along the side to make sure I don't bump into anything."
Positioning himself directly behind the object, his front hoofs
start to brightly glow. An aura of magic covers the box,
levitating it just mere inches above the ground. With his hind
hoofs glowing just as brightly, he presses forward as if the
metal box was made of cardboard.

"Yeah, yeah, sure," replied Opal, but paid little attention to
what he instructed. Feeling all set to go, Opal starts asserting
force onto the container with her front legs. But little did she
expect, the box felt... lighter? Impossible, she thought.
Before, the box was like pushing a yacht on land. But now it's
like an empty wagon.
This quickly caught Opal by surprise. The unexpected weight
change, plus the heavy amount of force she had exerted onto the
object, makes Opal's hooves slide off it. Placing her front
hooves back onto the ground, she watches the box, now with a
glowing aura shining around it, levitate along with the stallion
who had helped her walking next to it.
"Could've warned me sooner, pal," Opal muttered under her breath
before catching up to him. "By the way, thanks for help! You
wouldn't believe how much trouble this thing was."

Foxtrot shows a clever smirk as he listens to Opal. "Well, I can
get a pretty good idea from what I've seen already. No offense,
it looks like you've been hauling this thing for a while." He
still resumes at a steady pace, "So what's in this thing anyway?
Must be some serious gear." The unicorn pauses, shaming his head
as he remembers something. His brown eyes look over to the mare,
"And what's your name anyway? I'm Foxtrot; should've said that a
bit earlier."

"Opal's the name!" she answered in a chipper manner, taking a
mental note of the odd pause Foxtrot had. "And you're Foxtrot,
which I'm guessing is like the dance 'foxtrot'?" Following her
reply, Opal patted a hoof on the container. "And to answer your
other question, there's definitely some serious gear. A lot of
it! Computers, cameras, you name it."
She continued her explanation by pointing at the stadium which
is only now a few blocks away. "And it's all for that! Long
story short, some new toys are being installed to enhance
security. Then horrible logistics got in the way, and here we
are now."

Foxtrot couldn't help but chuckle at the whole thing. "Yea, I've
run into logistics problems all the time at work. And even if
they ran so smoothly, it wouldn't be enough for me to go tapping
my hoofs." He looks down to the box, adjusting the sensitivity
to his magic now that he knows what's inside. "But that is some
serious tech though. It must be quite the occasion for all this
stuff. How much of a time frame are we working with here? If you
need this delivery expedited, I can certainly kick it into high
gear."

"Meh, the time frame's no big deal; we got all night till
morning to have everything up 'n running." Opal lifted a hoof,
and made small motions in the air to simulate writing imaginary
numbers. "With a few dozen packaged cameras, a couple computers,
and an entire team of trained workers..." One of the street
lamps the two ponies walked by suddenly lit up, and Opal turned
to Foxtrot. "I'd say some time before dawn, assuming nopony
goofs off on the job."

"That's good to know." Foxtrot replies as his ear flicks with
the street lamps illumination. "So Opal, is this your usual 9 to
5 work? This just reminds me of my freelance days of delivering
things."
