Re: Reaching The Top
DIR By: Nivalia
Date: March 22, 2017, 5:37 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Nivalia dashes through the streets, the shouts and curses of the
crowd behind her drive her to keep moving. She couldn't believe
it. After all this time, all the effort of staying hidden, all
gone from one accident. It wasn't ideal, but it never was
surprising. Growing up always hiding meant that one day you
would be found; one could only hope it would be under ideal
circumstances.
Rounding a corner, the mare trips and falls, tearing the dress.
Her head ached, blood still doing off her mane. Magic is still
subdued, her own senses still throwing her off from time to
time. She had to hide, she couldn't change into anything, so
she'll have to think fast. Pushing herself back up she tears of
a piece of her garment and continues running. After some time,
she makes a sharp turn into an alley, checking behind her to
find her blood tail stopping at the corner of the street.
Trotting down, it's a dead end. A large dumpster is the only
cover she can hide behind, so she does. Talking deep breaths,
she wraps the tattered tag around her head, a temporary
solution. She curses that she left her bag behind, it had some
medical paste that would clean and seal up her cut. Nivalia
snaps back to reality as she hears the crowd, the chant still
echoing in the streets. They all split up at the corner, several
passing the alleyway she was hiding in. The changeling at this
point merely curls up against the dumpster, and quietly sobs.
Fear, sadness, and desperation take hold, and it's too much for
her to handle.

Oddly, Sage ran much faster following the changeling than she
had at the race against Shwambart to the festival. So quickly,
in fact, that she was the first behind the guards to reach the
end of the blood trail. Her head whipped around to look at the
many alleys and side streets that could be hiding the
changeling. She glared. She had to be the one to find the
changeling first, to punish it for tricking Sage, to punish it
for what it was.
Sage started to pass an alley none of the others had gone down.
She glanced down it, her face still contorted. But there was
only a dumpster, surely the changeling hadn't been so stupid to
settle for such meager cover. So she passed it and started down
a side street.

Morgayne motioned to one of the volunteers, a burly stallion.
"Come, you must hurry and get these evidence to the guards!" The
stallion nodded and messily scooped up the spilled contents of
the bag, including the valuables, and putting them on his own
back. He and a few others, also riled up by Morgayne, turned to
leave before he blinked at the slender selkie. "Aren't you
coming?"
"I shouldn't," Morgayne murmured softly, suddenly looking
nervous. Her curiosity was sparking, the same curiosity her
mother had always scolded for. But she wanted to know exactly
what would happen! Besides, she reasoned, some one had to make
sure that the stallion didn't steal the jewelry for himself.
Deciding that justified curious actions, Morgayne suddenly
nodded. "Of course." She raised one hoof to the sky. "Let's
assure that changeling gets what it deserves! Let's go!" The
others cheered, and with that, they all set off at a gallop in
the same direction the guards had gone.

DIR By: Moonlight Mist

---------------------------------------------------------
Jeez, I haven't ran this long in forever! Moonlight unwillingly
started to slow down, she normally never ran this fast for so
long. She started trotting at a decent pace, still trying to
make it to Nivalia in time. Though she had noticed Schwambart
didn't join her, she couldn't blame him. One pony she was with
turned out to be a changeling and the other just went completely
haywire angry. Therefore, she wasn't surprised at his decision.
Moonlight heard the angry crowd close by, way too close for her
liking. Which means they narrowed down their search to this
area, Nivalia has to be around here somewhere. Moonlight turned
the corner to see most of the crowd searching, she turned down
the closest alley way to hide from them. Crap, it's a dead end.
She was about to take a breather before she heard the faint
sound of somepony crying. Moonlight turned around looking at the
only thing in the alleyway, which was a dumpster.
This is so dangerous...and stupid. Moonlight cursed at herself
as she crept towards the end of the alley. She refrained from
drawing her bow, a sign (if not a stupid one) that she came in
peace...that she wanted to help. As she approached the dumpster
Moonlight heard the cries more clearly and saw a long horn
sticking out from the side.
"Ni-Nivalia?" She whispered in a light tone, enough for her to
hear Moonlight, but not loud enough to alert any others. "Are
you alright? Let me help you..." Moonlight waited for a
response, not knowing what to expect. Even now, she's still
skeptical...but giving Nivalia a chance might be better than
nothing.

An exaggerated roll of what he had for eyes later, Sadowi raised
his hooves to the back of his head and tied up his mane. "Hah!
The Princess' pride, you are!"
He dashed after the mas'ses from up here, kicking out loose
slabs of dyed slate, on the high floors of the houses, and the
night's chill tickled his ears and kicked up his hair and
trailed it behind him. Not confined to the twisting paths of the
brightly lit roads and avenues, corners he cut and byways he
dodged, and he followed them along with that blue one speaking
to the green one who ran away earlier, making time and catching
up to the rest. A final, wide gap to pass, he made for the edge
of this cliff; brow gently furrowed, front legs pulled him
forward and off the raised surface, and his hind legs pushed
against the polished stone walls to commit him to this jump.
With practised precision, he having fallen many times before,
after a few canter strides he regained control and slowed to a
halt on the other side. His legs started once more, and he
walked along the edges, peering over and down at the paved
ground. He stopped and watched as Moonlight crept into this
alley, deserted save for her and cleaned out save for a large
garbage bin pushed to the corner, and heard someone else's
voice, one that cried.
Taking a quick gander at the flat roof he stood on, he unwound
the length of rope he kept around one of his hands and quickly
secured it to a pipe or funnel and tossed the other end of the
line down in the direction of the dumpster. "I'm going to regret
this, aren't I?"

Schwambart follows the mob from above, a pony-sized blur in an
infinite sky. While he keeps an eye on the pony with the
valuables, he sends his mind back, thinking about the evening.
Ni- the changeling couldn't have been the one who stole the
jewels anyway, now that he's in the air away from all the noise
and has some time to clear his head. She'd been with him or near
him since before they went to the square, when they heard about
the robbery. It was conceivable that it could have been done
earlier with it just being found out, but if so the thief would
have had time to store the loot, or pass it off, or leave the
area before the alarm was raised.
Which would mean that it was planted in the saddlebags. Scanning
his memory, the changeling did take them off...to try on the
dress. And they were set in a corner, out of the way. The rest
of the night, it was wearing them, so that would have had to be
when the planting was done. But...he wasn't paying attention to
them, he has no idea who could have done anything with them.
He'd been...a bit distracted. So, changeling yes...apparently.
Thief, almost certainly not. They're not ponies, but they aren't
stupid.

Nivalia gasps when she hears a voice nearby, fortunately or was
one she recognized. "M-Moonlight? I-is that you?" Moonlight
would see her looking her head out, her bright green eyes
contrasting the dark background. Once Nivalia sees her for
herself, she slightly calms down; although she still remains
hidden behind the dumpster. "Moon, I... I didn't do anything
wrong. I didn't steal anything or hurt anyone. I just wanted
to... I just wanted to enjoy the night with you guys. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry I brought you into this. I'm scared Moonlight, I want
to go home. But I can't disguise myself, m-my magic isn't
working right now."
The sudden drop of a rope catches her attention. It appears to
be attached to the roof above them. Obviously someone put it
there, but who? Why? Regardless, the changeling kept that in
mind in case she needed a quick getaway. For now, she waits for
Moonlights response.

Sage came back onto the main street, her search coming up empty.
Now she was frustrated as well as angry. Where could the
changeling be? They had ponies in nearly every outlet from this
street... She mentally stopped. The key word being nearly, she
realized, and she recalled they alley she had skipped over. Her
eyes located the opening to it and she starting stalking towards
it. She was nearly to the point where she would reach it, where
she could look around the corner, when suddenly, a call echoed
down the street. Sage stopped in her tracks and turned to see
what was happening.

"Guards! Guards!" The galloping stallion called out as he
reached the searchers, along with Morgayne and several other
ponies. A nearby pair of guards stopped, one of the barking,
"What is it?"
"We found evidence against the bug!" The group slowed and the
stallion trotted over the guards, where he took off Nivalia's
saddlebags. Opening them, he dumped everything out, and pointed
to the necklace and brooch. "These are its bags," the stallion
explained.
Morgayne stayed silent throughout the exchange, perfectly
content with letting the stallion take the spotlight. The guards
looked at each other. "Of course that beast is the thief, and
now we have the evidence to prove it!" One exclaimed
triumphantly, before looking at the stallion. "You there, did
you touch the valuables?" "Oh... uh, yeah," the stallion
muttered sheepishly. "No matter," the unicorn guard cut in. "We
all know it was the bug."
With that, he levitated the jewelry into two clear bags her had
pulled out. "Be assured of this, citizens, that changeling will
get what is coming to it."

Moonlight was initially startled at the sight of Nivalia's true
form, her green eyes standing out in the darkness surrounding
them. Despite her appearance, Moonlight still felt sympathy for
the changeling. "I know I have a lot of questions, and maybe you
have a lot to say...but just know I believe you Nivalia. We need
to get out of here, there are a lot of ponies hunting you. Your
life is in danger, we need to go...now."
Moonlight noticed the dropped rope from above. That definitely
could be a trap. She scanned the alleyway for any other
alternatives...there wasn't any. We can't go out on the
streets...they would definitely find us.
She helped Nivalia up and stayed in the shadows. "That rope is
our best bet Nivalia. I don't know who's up there, and it might
be a trap but it's our only choice right now." Moonlight peered
up at the roof, trying to catch a glimpse of who or what was up
there, but couldn't. "No matter what's up there or what happens,
just know I'm going to protect you. I'll go up first, follow
me."
Moonlight started to climb the rope, a low dark blue aura coming
from her horn to light the way. "Stay close Nivalia..." Her
heart started beating faster with each inch climbed. I hope this
goes well...
