Moonlight's heart filled with happiness when Nivalia admitted
her feelings. The best...of friends. In that moment, despite of
what any other pony might think, she knew she had made the right
       choice. "Thank you...I mean it."
Moments passed and Moonlight waited for Nivalia to leave the
room, leaving just her and Schwambart.
She looked at him and decided to break the silence. "Thank
you...for everything. You patched me up didn't you? These are
your clothes..." She looked down at her frail state, she knew
that rest was needed but couldn't help her curiosity. "Why...did
you come back? You have an obvious but justified distaste for
Nivalia, but you could've just left. I expected you to leave.
I...wasn't even sure if you'd be here when I arrived...."
Moonlight ignored her urge to just sleep, she needed it.
       "But thank you..."

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Sadowi remained quiet and watched the few stars that showed
themselves here, those trapped in between two rows of smoothed
white stone and wood constructs interspaced by webs of lines
that held freshly washed clothes. She didn't appear to be
alerting anyone or anything in the area to run him down and cut
him up, so he stretched himself luxuriously on his makeshift
mat, no longer interested in keeping a quick escape prepared.
But, when she didn't speak for a while he sat up and looked at
Morgayne, pondering why she paused and the meaning if any of the
sass he dropped on her and why he did.
Morgayne broached, and Sadowi listened; this time she instead of
confident and even perhaps menacing was hesitant as if choosing
her words. "Yes? I'm not going anywhere, not when I can stay
here looking at clouds float across the night sky with you, but
I doubt I'd be any hel--?
"S-s-so that WAS a creepy come-on!" he stammered, scrabbling
onto his four hooves. "No. No, no, no, you can't. You can't. You
       mustn't. H-How coul--?"
As he backed up, he walked out of the alley and into where it
was bathed in the blue lambency of the moon. Wrapped in this
dark yet bright mantle of night touching his skin, if the selkie
had not already knew for a certainty what the wretched creature
he was, now she could. His mane shimmered as water fled from the
strands towards the ground and specularly reflected the
moonlight, forming small sparks of resplendence cascading
through his mane just as a cunningly woven gold thread would
       have in a cloak.
Sadowi suspected nothing of what species she was, but he
suspected what she meant. Once upon a time, he would have been
struck silly with delight, would have kept tossing sallies back
and playing hard to get, or perhaps even daring to put his neck
against hers, only to realise he had not a clue what it all
       meant.
But today, he believed in ghost stories, and he was in one.

   DIR By: A. Capella Schwambart
       Date: March 27, 2017, 12:01 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Schwambart sits stoically through the changeling's pretty little
speech, which was probably purposely designed and personalized
to maximize its emotional effects on its audience to help ensure
its survival. He still says nothing to it in return, giving no
response until the end. Right, like they could ever go back to
how they were like before it all happened. He gives a snort to
that, but otherwise remains silent towards the changeling.
When Nivalia leaves the room, he makes his way over to the
window, keeping watch for that zombie. Or whatever it was. It
had a name, he thinks, but he doesn't care too much at the
moment. Or any of the ponies that might be still chasing them.
Either one of those options would be a negative in his opinion,
       but at this point, whatever.
"You should get some rest," Schwambart replies to Moonlight
before answering her question. "I helped because you're not a
changeling. I wouldn't have interfered if it was the only one at
stake, but I doubt the mob would have gone through any screening
to make sure you weren't a changeling too before they did the
same thing to you they would have done to it." He's still in
semi-crisis mode, which helps him avoid becoming the nervous
wreck he would doubtless have become in the same situation
       otherwise.
       "...You're welcome. Now rest."

Nivalia returns with some pillows, levitating them over to her
guests. Picking up Mark and her own blanket, she goes to her
cushioned recliner and extends it out. "I-" she's suddenly cut
off by a small yawn. "I'm gonna hit the hay. The restroom is
upstairs and to your left. Help yourself to the fridge if you
need anything. You two have a good night." Wrapping herself up
in a blanket, the changelings quiet snoozing suddenly becomes
louder when she starts to lightly snore. It was a heck of a
night, but Niv had a feeling this whole thing isn't over.

As Sadowi backed up, Morgayne stood up and followed after him,
looking desperate. "Wait!" She called out."You misunderstood
me." The moonlight settled over her, bleaching her coat a pale
silver and making her grey eyes into pools of darkness. She
stopped a few feet from him. Selkies, as a general rule, were
articulate creatures; their physical beauty, their dulcet tones,
all meant to lure males in. But for once, Morgayne wished she
would stutter or her voice would break. Just to make her seem
       more approachable, more sincere.
"Sadowi, I'm not looking for a... mate," she said, quite
honestly. "I do, however, greatly desire a friend. One I don't
have to hide my heritage from. The ponies, they don't like those
who are different. I imagine you saw how they reacted to a
changeling in their midst. Who's next? Me? You? All they look
for is the next creature to cast out."
She took one more step towards him. "You seemed very frightened
by what you thought I meant earlier? Why?" she asked quietly.

Moonlight sat through listening to Schwambart. She frowned at
his state, he looked stressed...which was reasonable but it made
her feel bad. "Simply putting it...you came back for me." She
said in a weak and tired voice. "I...I'm the reason you're here.
       I'll find a way to repay you, I won't forget this and I won't
forget you." Moonlight felt a rush of feelings hit her again,
along with another bout of fatigue. "I'm gonna get some rest."
She placed her head on the pillow and covered herself with a
       blanket.
While trying to fall asleep she thought of the day's events. She
met an actual friend, who happens to be a changeling. Risked her
life for said Changeling. Met another nice pony, but that one
ended up trying to kill her. She thought of Schwambart, who she
wonders about the most. Nivalia was open with Moonlight (for the
most part) but she wondered of Schwambart's intentions and
thoughts. Moonlight realized then, that all of the effort she
put into trying to protect Nivalia, he did the same exact thing
for her... It mostly left her confused. Before she could ponder
more, she fell into a deep slumber.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
By her command, he stopped once more in his tracks and his
blubbering mouth snapped shut. Head below shoulders, Sadowi
looked back at Morgayne when she walked out after him, and he
looked away, shame filling his nonfunctional brain and longing
bursting his nonexistent heart and the sensation of heat
reddening his cheeks. She affected him since she first told him
to stop running,or perhaps even before when she remained the
only one on his heels. Now in the light of night, even more so.
In her presence, he wanted to just forget everything, to just
crawl over to her, to just do whatever she wanted of him; by her
side, it was safe; it was happy. She really was as sweet as she
       sounded.
As she explained herself and put his fears and their
miscommunication to rest, his yammering began again. "What? Oh
no, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. But, but thanks.
I'm...I'm...glad...you don't think the same way for me as I do
for you, but your 'heritage?' What's that? How are you any
different, besides being stronger and prettier?
"As for me, why?" he mumbled. "Why, what do you see? What do you
know of ghosts? Do you believe in them?"
Sinews coiled around his form, but his own coat, stained blue
with death, stretched tautly to leave no spare flesh where not
torn or rotted or swept with gashes. He had two cavities, one on
the bridge of his muzzle and one in place of his left eye
socket, as if something had gouged them out bone included with a
spoon. His eyes, or what he had for eyes, sat in their berths
and emitted their dim orange glow, two forlorn lamps of a
derelict ship floating along the surface of the chthonic depths.

Schwambart keeps his eye out the window, studiously not meeting
Moonlight's gaze as she comes to her conclusion. Well of course
he went for her. What other reason would he have to do something
like that? "Yeah, you g-get some rest," he says in response, his
cheeks warming just a tiny bit. He doesn't yet, though, opting
to keep an eye out the window. He spurns the blanket and pillow
left out by the changeling. He doesn't need her help, he doesn't
want it. He doesn't want to be here. He'll just keep watch.
       That's it.

Morgayne's ears drooped a little in confusion. At first, Sadowi
had seemed upset at his assumptions, but now he seemed almost...
disappointed? Perhaps Morgayne didn't understand males as much
       as she thought she did.
But she listened to his questions patiently. She took a deep
breath before answering. She had never told any foreign creature
what she was, how long had it been since she had even uttered
the word? "This is not my original form, Sadowi. I'm a selkie.
We are born as seals, but when we reach fifty years old, we are
able to shed that skin and appear as ponies. I don't know if
you would have heard of us... In many coastal cities, we are
mere legends. Here, very few ponies know of us at all."
She paused for a moment, both to let her words sink in as well
as mentally form what to say next. "I see a kelpie. One who has
lived a long time. One who is upset, even frightened. I don't
know why. I see a creature like me; ignored, an outsider,
frightening and dangerous to some." She tilted her head. "I know
little concerning ghosts, except you are not one."
She stepped closer to him, studying him. "You are solid. You are
here. You are not a phantom. And even if you were one... I would
not be afraid. Selkies believe that when we die, our souls
become sea foam on the waves. If that can be true, I don't see
why ghosts would not be. I believe there are great deal of
things that no equine understands... but that doesn't mean they
       have to frighten me."

He blew a sigh of resignation, and Sadowi stayed in place with
his neck lowered as Morgayne crept towards him. Looking up at
her, he smiled sheepishly and saw there was no convincing or
dissuading her, so despite whatever beliefs he had he acquiesced
to hers, nodding and withholding further arguments that would
lead nowhere. It was an impossible task, and he recognised it,
no longer daring any attempts to prove it otherwise at least for
       now.
"A, a selkie? Oh yes, I've heard of them," he answered. "Never
had time to decide whether they were real or not, but I guess
       they sure are."
He nodded, his first performance of defeat. "Fine, you're right.
I'm a kelpie, upset and scared, ignored and you bet
       frightening."
He grinned his characteristic gap-toothed and lopsided grin, but
it was just a mask that did little to hide the emptiness within,
the second part of his surrender. "Right, I'm not a ghost, but
I'm sure not a pile of bubbles, yet."
He brought back his old demeanour; he would just tag along to
see how it would end. "Yes indeedy, so there are a bunch of
stuff no one knows. You want me to scare you away, don't you? I
       won't."
One eyebrow furrowed, and the other one raised, and his small
mind noticed something else. "So now that we got silly stories
out of the way, what exactly is it that you want me to do,
       again?"
