Re: Reaching The Top
DIR By: Moonlight Mist

Moonlight's sight clears and she takes the bottle of water from
Schwambart and chugs it. His voice soothed her, almost making
her pain more bearable. She looks at him, noticing his clothes
were...off. Her face turns a beet red and she avoids his worried
gaze. Moonlight, really? She looks over at Nivalia, who was safe
and unhurt. Seeing this made her glad, knowing that her efforts
weren't for nothing. Moonlight directs her attention to
Nivalia's question, What happened...
Sage...
Moonlight shifts slightly and turns her head towards the two and
continues in a weak voice. "I...I was running and ended up in a
dark alley. I...couldn't see much but I heard hoofsteps and
started to run faster. I couldn't see and I..." She looks down
at her leg and sees it bandaged up with Schwambart's clothing.
He...must've patched me up. Moonlight continues, "I fell onto
broken glass, a shard got stuck in my leg. I pulled it out..."
She winces just thinking about it. "Then...Sage. She...appeared,
she wasn't the same as when we first met her. She was different,
she was going to kill me!"
Her mind flashes back, the look on Sage's face when she closed
in towards her; It was horrifying. "I was bleeding out and weak,
I couldn't run. The only way I could escape is if..." She took a
deep breath, hoping that Sage came out unharmed. Sure she was
probably going to kill her, but Moonlight didn't want to harm
Sage in any way. "I used a power that comes from my bow, it
showers bright arrows powered from the moonlight. I used it to
distract her, but aimed it to where hopefully she didn't get
hurt...and I used that time to run away. I don't remember
anything after that, I just remember running."
Moonlight sat up and took a deep breath, "I'm glad you're both
safe. I don't think she followed me. Please believe me when I
say I did what I could, I had to defend myself. But Nivalia...I
have questions..."

His head tilted a ways to one side as Sadowi watched Morgayne
when she dipped hers and flicked her tail. He did not recognise
it, but it also did not bother him. Water droplets ran down the
strands of his mane onto his snout as she introduced herself,
and he blinked and shook his head to clear it away, the pair of
orangey-yellow orbs vanishing from sight for the brief moment.
Her explanation and conclusion of his species brought him back
with a jolt, but he only let out a puff of an amused breath.
"Morgayne, how pretty," he wheezed. "But a kelpie? Shucks."
Grasping one length out of two of the split ponytail he tied his
mane in, he wrung it out, and the utterances of raindrops
striking the stone surface they stood on grew apparent. "You're
hardly the first to say that, and you're not the first to say
she knows something when she sees it. My tail and mane are
always soaked through, sure; I like to swim, yes I do; I had a
taste for the flesh of...others, had; But do those make me a
kelpie?
"I might just be one, but I don't know," he blabbered.
[color=limegreen]"What's it to you, Morgayne? You're the first
to be so interested. You're not making some creepy come-on, are
you?"

Sage, huh? She did seem strangely...enthusiastic about the chase
when it started. It did seem quite a contrast to her previous
behavior and personality...what was going on with her? No
matter. He'd just have to be careful about her in the
future..."Don't worry, Moonlight. You're safe." [I]Sort of,[I]
he tacks on mentally, shooting a glare at the changeling. He
still hasn't said a word to it since they started running, and
he's not about to start.

"Sage attacked you? That..." Nivalia trails off. She thought she
heard her screaming out the chant, and certainly saw her
pursuing them; but murder? A cold chill ran down her spine, one
that was only broken with Schwambart's glare, and Moonlight's
question. The changeling takes a seat. Her magic by now had
fully recovered, but she makes no effort to disuse herself. It
doesn't matter. "Of course, Moonlight. You two risked your lives
to keep me safe. The least I can give are explanations. Whatever
questions you have, just ask. Don't hold back, don't hesitate.
I'd rather be transparent with you both than deal with any
bullsh!t secrecy." Her tone was sincere, serious, one that was
willing to hold nothing back.

Morgayne narrowed her eyes as Sadowi. Was he... was he teasing
her? There was a time that Morgayne would have laughed and
teased back, but many, many years had passed since that point;
and now Morgayne had just been alone far too long to find it
humorous.
"Not even slightly," she answered bluntly. "And you give
yourself away... Wet hair, a talent for swimming, a taste for
flesh? Kelpies dropped out of the public memory far too long ago
for the average pony to know those details."
She sat back in mock relaxation, smoothing her own damp mane
with her hooves. "And here I was thinking that you'd just be
grateful that I didn't come after you with torches and
pitchforks. If you are so keen on getting caught by the angry
mob, I can easily alert them of our location. Perhaps even help
their anger along? Ponies don't do well when driven half-mad by
things that are not real."
She was bluffing, of course. She was far too curious about the
kelpie to call the ponies now.

Moonlight sat up, getting a little lightheaded. She took a deep
breath, looking over at Schwambart. The way he glared at
Nivalia, it was apparent that he didn't trust her. She knew that
look, but she couldn't blame him. If he doesn't trust her...why
did he come back for us? Moonlight watched as Nivalia sat down,
giving Moonlight her full attention.
"I...." She wasn't exactly sure what she should ask. Moonlight
still wasn't 100% sure why she did what she did. "I want you to
know, I went after you because...well...I felt like I needed to
protect you. You being a changeling doesn't matter, you never
gave me any reason to be afraid of you. You were the only pony
to give me the time of day, you didn't ignore me. I want to make
sure I made the right decision, that I didn't risk my life for
nothing...I want us to be friends, and I want you to be honest
with me."
Moonlight scanned the room, relieved her bow was in the corner.
She noticed her satchel sitting next to it,
"Schwambart...could...could you give my satchel to Nivalia?" She
waited for him to retrieve it, "Nivalia, I don't want you to
feel guilty about this. I made my own choices and I'll be okay.
I got something for you..."

DIR By: Sadowi

---------------------------------------------------------
Upon hearing her no nonesense answer, his ears flopped down and
pressed to the side of his head in an overdone attempt of
feigning hurt. He shook his head to loosen some of the water
that clung to his soggy strands, and he shook his head again and
caused them to trickle down the sides of his face, adding to his
already absurd mellodrama. A whine followed by a huff, Sadowi
swung back around and walked back the way he came, towards the
storm drain off the side, but he took only two steps before
turning back his head.
"Aww, that's too bad. And here I thought you were just as sweet
as you looked," he said, ignoring how at this angle in this
space in this darkness of this night there was little more than
a shadow of Morgayne for him to see.
Taking her cue, he stretched himself out earnestly onto the cold
sidewalk, folding his front legs behind his head and peering off
into the obstructed dark sky, but she could have easily noticed
how closely he placed himself next to the rectangular hole by
the gutter. [color=limegreen]"You're right, Morgayne. You're
absolutely right. I'd love to play chase with you, but you know
what else ponies don't do
well-when-driven-half-mad-by-things-that-are-not-real?
Swimming."

Schwambart says nothing to the changeling, and nothing more to
Moonlight yet either. He hesitates before fulfilling Moonlight's
request, looking from the satchel and the changeling. Well,
whatever. He stalks over to the satchel and carries it over to
the changeling, setting it down within reach but not giving it
directly to it, then walks back over next to Moonlight again,
still not saying a word.

Looking rather confused, Nivalia levitates the bag closer to her
and opens it up. Her eyes widen with surprise at what was
inside. "Moonlight... you..." Pulling out Mark, she couldn't
contain herself anymore as she burst into tears, holding the
stuffed animal tightly to herself. It would be a few minutes
before she could compose herself; with the emotional
rollercoaster that happened tonight, seeing this act of kindness
touched her aching heart. Looking back to her, the changelings
eyes were a surprising hazel color, the reddening of her jade
eyes made quite the change in hue. Her voice was soft, cracking
at first, but steadied as she continued. "Thank you Moonlight,
so few in my life have ever gone this far for someone like me.
Especially after..." The changeling simply runs her good over
her face, implying the obvious, "seeing this. You truly are the
best friend I could ever have." Nivalia then glances to
Schwambart, "And Schwam I... I know you don't trust me, because
of what I am and I don't hold it against you. You saved my life
and I'll never forget that. I just hope one day I could... we
could be like when we first met." She takes a deep breath,
followed up by a yawn. Getting up, she goes to a small closet
and pulls out some blankets, placing them near her guests. "If
there's anything either of you need, just feel free to ask."

Morgayne gave Sadowi a flat look at his acting. But she froze at
his last comment, dark eyes darting over to the storm drain. Her
heart sank. She was quite a good swimmer in pony form, but to
keep up with another water-born species... that would require
the use of her sealskin, which happened to be hidden on the
banks of a river not too far from where they were.
...Still too far for Moragyne to get, come back, and still give
chase if Sadowi chose to flee down the drain, though. She could
try, certainly, but tracking him through the water would be
difficult.
Her ears folded back and stared at the ground. She was silent
for a few moments, trying to choose what to say. "Look,
Sadowi..." Her words were hesitant, careful. "I have so many
questions. Please don't go." She hesitated before her next
words, not sure if Sadowi suspected what she was about to
confirm. "This... this is the first time in many years that I
found someone even remotely close to my own kind."
Every instinct screamed at her to take it back as soon as she
had said it, but Morgayne was just so...
...so lonely.
