Necessary Preparations

It was a particularly breezy day as Ebony stepped out of the
Royal Guard office into Ponyville. Having arrived the previous
night with a small shipment, he was eager to get going with his
assignment. Preparations had to be made before venturing into
the Everfree forest. To do that, he had to see a few friends.
Donning his usual guard attire, the captain makes his way
through town. Leaving messages to certain individuals to reach
him, he takes the initiative to stop by The Herbiary for
supplies. The bell rings as he makes his entrance, the store
itself looking pretty calm at this time. One of the workers
always him with a warm smile.
"Good day officer! Welcome to The Herbiary. How may I assist
you?" the mare asks.
"Hello there," Ebony replies, "I'm looking for Nivalia, the
owner of this establishment."
She nods and trots off to the back of the store. Leaving the
captain to just look around. He notices a newspaper resting on
the shelf and glances over the headline. 'Skirmish With
Timberwolves Outside of Town.' Is a subtle reminder of the
possible threats he'll be facing. Even more so to be prepared
for anything.

Within minutes Nivalia steps out onto the sales floor. Sporting
her usual earth pony look, she spots the captain and gets him
with a tight embrace. "Ebby! Oh it's so good to see you again!
What you brings you over here?"
"Likewise Niv," Ebony replies as he returns the hug. "I'm going
on an expedition into the Everfree. I need some supplies,
repellents, and one of your workers. I heard you just hired
her."
"I did actually. You just stay right there, I'll go get her."

Tinder is taking a small rest in the break room, needing a
minute to get off her hooves and do some stuff she can't in
front of customers. Popping down a few pills, more then she
probably should, and adjusting her bag so it's not rubbing the
burns as much. She turns quickly as hears Niv walks in, shoving
her pills back into her bag, "Oh hey, you need something?"

"Yea. Ebony's here. He says he's going on a trip and needs some
supplies." Nivalia answers. "He also wants to see you too. Meet
him up at the front while I get his supplies ready." She resumes
with her task and exits the break room to finish her tasks.

Tinder nods as Niv explains the situation, standing up and
adjusting her bag before heading out front. She gives a quick
check around her to make sure there is no one suspicious around
before heading for Ebony, "Heard you wanted to see me."

"Oh, hello Tinder. Yes, I need some help. I need you to come to
the station with me." He raisers his hoof, "You're not in
trouble. This is actually in regards to what happened the other
night." The captain looks around, his tone lowering as he
continues. "The tefelhunden. It had a reaction to your ice
magic. With this trip I may run into more and I've made
preparations for just that. But to get them ready I need your
assistance."

Tinder listens carefully as he explains the situation, tensing
up as he mentions the tefelhunden. She had been hoping to forget
about that thing, or at least never have to see another. She
takes a deep breath as she pushes the fear out of her mind so
she can focus on Ebony, "Alright.. I'll help anyway I can."

"Thank you Tinder," Coldsteel nods, "I know it's not the most
pleasant thing to deal with, and hopefully we won't see another
one anytime soon." Nivalia approaches them with a small crate, a
medical symbol etched on the lid. "Thanks Niv, I'll be sure to
put these to good use. I need to borrow your employee as well
for a bit."
"No worries Captain," Nivalia replies, "Just bring her back in
one piece. Now if you'll excuse me, I have business to tend to."
She makes her exit among the isles of plants as Ebony lifts the
crate onto his back.
"Alright. If you need to grab your things, I'll meet you
outside."

Tinder sighs a bit and nods, "Don't worry. I have your back if
we do face one again." She glances at the crate as it's brought
out, frowning as she realizes how dangerous this might be. "I
got everything I need already." She nods quickly to Niv before
following Ebony out the door.

"Perfect! Off we go then." The walk to the station was rather
uneventful. The sky itself started to gather clouds but there's
certainly no forecast for rain. Of course a bevy of guards
travel around the base, most saluting the captain as he trots
through. As the two would enter the station, they would be met
by bustling activity. Orders given, papers shuffling, and boots
tapping against the floor, no one really gives them any
attention. "Here, let's get to my office."
