The City of Stone
By: Agent Lima Date: November 8, 2016, 1:50 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
For hundreds of kilometers, the two fly over the open ocean of
desert, rolling dunes, and hilly landscapes. The sun itself
begins to make its departure from the sky when the two arrive to
Hoofuf. Referred to as "Arabia's Canterlot," Hoofuf is a
towering metropolis embedded along the Al-Shaw Mountains. It's
export of raw materials and ores generate enough revenue for the
city to flourish. Add its strategic location, railway hub, and
history of cultural influence, and you have a location that had
seen is own share of conflict. Craters from wars new and old dot
the expansive landscape before it. Even with the setting sun,
the cityscape glows with activity from its residents.
As the plane buzzes overhead, Lima reaches over and retrieves
her radio. Flicking on the switch, a burst of static goes
through before she begins. "This is Saetta to Tower, requesting
permission to land."
There's a pause before a voice pipes through. "Access granted.
Dock in Hangar 12."
"Copy that." Lima answers before looking over her shoulder, "How
ya doing back there?"

The first few minutes of the flight were very tense for Lina.
She was very still and dead silent, forcing herself to keep her
eyes open and watch the land pass beneath the plane, not willing
to close them, not willing to show weakness. After awhile
though, when it became apparent they weren’t going to both die
in a fiery crash- at least not immediately- Lina relaxed bit by
bit, even getting lost in the stark beauty of the landscape. She
let her mind wander, starting slightly when Lima suddenly spoke
into the radio. At the question, Lina gave an automatic,
clipped, “I’m fine.” There was a moment before she added, “Ready
to get this done.”

"Amen to that." Lima quips as she points the plane downward. It
would be a few minutes before they spot the runway. After
landing and docking in the hangar, the pegasus gets out and
stretches. "Well, here we are. Hoofuf. Thankfully well have
enough time to get to the prison before visiting hours are done.
Go grab your things, I'm gonna waive over a taxi." Locking up
her vehicle, she trots outside of the hangar and lightly hovers
a short distance above the ground. Fortunately, or appears as if
a ride was already waiting for them. The vehicle pulls up in
front of the hangar doors. Its driver is silent, merely looking
at the pegasus with an expectant gaze. "Hey uh, we need to get
to Hoofuf Prison please." She pays the soccer in advance and
awaits for Lina to catch up.

Lina held her breath as they landed, fortunately without any
trouble. She got out, stretching briefly and readjusting the
harness that held her sheath. She trotted over the rear
compartment snd fetched her bag before comprehending what Lima
had said. “Did you say a…” Lina started, but Lima was already
gone and talking to the driver. The grey pegasus mentally kicked
herself. How exactly did she think they were going to get to the
prison? She didn’t think, that was the answer. She slowly
followed after Lima, every step reluctant as her breathing sped
up. She finally reached the taxi, staring it with apprehension.
She suddenly glared. “Well, let’s go,” she snapped, and got in,
trying to quiet her rapid breaths.

The vehicle slowly starts up as it exits the airport, picking up
speed as it merges onto a main road. Lima simply gazes or the
window, noting the setting sun as it approaches the horizon.
"Hey Lina, depending on how things play out, we may need to
spend the night here. I know a pl-" The car suddenly screeches
to a halt as another car cuts them off. The driver lays on the
horn before resuming their usual speed. "Damn it! Traffic here
can be a bucking nightmare at times. Anyway, I know a place we
can stay for the night."

Lina didn’t even hear Lima as she spoke, instead just gritting
her teeth against her nervousness and looking out the window.
When the car came to abrupt stop, however, Lina let out a
particularly foul Marean curse, bringing her hooves halfway up
to cover her face before she recovered and dropped them.
“Great,” she muttered at Lima’s comment about the traffic. “Just
great.” She looked at Lima for a long moment before speaking
again. “Fine. I hope it’s not too nice, I don’t have much money
on me,” she said shortly, then returned her gaze to out the
window. “Thanks for paying for the taxi fare,” she gruffly added
as she looked away, her voice quiet as she half-hoped Lima
wouldn’t hear her.

"No worries. It's not to extravagant, but I'm a returning
patron, so it won't be much." It would be a steady trip from
that point, no sudden turns out shifts in speed. The taxi pulls
up to the front of the prison. The facility is large and heavily
guarded. "Well, here we are. Let me do the talking when we get
through the checkpoints. If Samiel keeps his word, we may not
have to do much." She gets out, eyeing the facility in her usual
fashion.

Like the flight, the taxi ride was extremely tense for Lina, but
unlike the flight, the fear didn’t fade. So Lina just stared at
the window, her scowl threatening to melt a hole in the glass as
her stomach churned. It seemed like years later when they
finally arrived a the prison. The pegasus gave a hasty nod at
Lima’s instructions, before she wrenched open the door and
quickly got out, her breath only slowing to it’s normal speed
when she was a good ten feet from the taxi. She turned her
attention to the prison, scanning it as well as she waited for
Lima to lead the way.

The entrance and security scans were surprisingly minimal;
Samiel's orders seemed to have arrived on time. Within minutes
they find themselves in the belly of the beast. The racket of
chatter and noise from the inmates in their cells. War
criminals, smugglers, deserters, the only thing more colorful
than the origins are their language. It won't be long before
their escort takes them to a quieter section of the building.
They finally stop in front of a door.
"30 minutes before we close up, ask what you need quickly," the
guard barks before opening it for them.
"More than enough time." Lima looks over to Lina, "Ready to go?"

So close to her goal, Lina’s face was oddly vulnerable as she
stared at the door. She had waited for this moment for years, so
now, why was she afraid? Then her gaze hardened, and she gave
Lima a terse nod before she strode though the door, ready to see
the faces of those responsible for the deaths of her parents.
