Fluttershy and Sona Nocturne

The tent was almost the same as when she first stayed at Camp
Everfree. Immediately Fluttershy set her things down and began
to unpack. She was keeping quiet as she began to dress the bed.

Sona looked around, taking everything in as she entered the
tent. She started unpacking her own things as she quietly said,
“So, how did your magic first show up when you were here last
time? I mean, how did you know you had it?” Her gaze was curious
as she paused in her unpacking and peered at the other girl.

Fluttershy placed her favorite pillow on the bed before taking a
seat on the mattress.
"Well strange things began to happen. For me in particular... I
understood the cute birds around me. I had never been able to do
that before and they were able to understand me."

“That’s remarkable,” Sona commented, then fell silent as she
continued unpacking. Even as distracted and full of thought as
she was, it didn’t take long to get everything out. She just
hadn’t brought that much... She just didn't have that much, for
that matter.

"So tell me more about yourself Sona." Fluttershy fluffed her
pillow. "I can tell you have a history with animals too."

Sona hesitated at the question, unsure what to say. “Oh, um… I
don’t know about a ‘history’… I’ve fed the stray cats behind my
apartment building for years, though. What else? Well, I’ve been
homeschooled for awhile now, ever since the first year of middle
school… didn’t go so well. But finances are… tight, and my
father decided to get another job, leaving him no time to
homeschool me. And my mother…” Sona avoided Fluttershy’s gaze.
“…My mother isn’t around to help. So after this trip, I’ll be
attending Canterlot High.” She sat down heavily on the cot. “I
don’t know if I’ll be able to do it… It’s been so long…”

"Well that's very kind of you." Fluttershy shifted her hands a
little on the sheets of her bed. "I'm so sorry to hear that
though. I'm sure you'll be able to do it. I will help you with
the transition in any way I can so you have nothing to worry
about."

Sona didn’t respond for a long moment, but then she finally
looked up and gave Fluttershy a tiny smile. “Thank you…”
Deciding to turn the conversation to a lighter topic, Sona stood
up and added, “So what’s in store for today? I’ve never been to
a camp before. What kind of things will we do here?”

"Well today we probably will learn about the thing we do
later... unless they change things. Then we can start some of
the first activities here. I personally love the nature walks. I
made my own little game with seeing how many different birds I
can find." She pulled out a notebook with various pictures of
birds on it with an empty box beside them. There are other
activities too like boating, wood shop, lantern making, tether
ball. Anything you can think of that happens at a camp."

Sona blinked. “Nature walks? Out here? Doesn’t that sound like a
good way to get eaten?” she couldn’t help asking. Sure, she
liked animals, but she had never been out of the city and there
were surely some rather large creatures out in the woods. Still,
at Fluttershy’s last comment, Sona’s apprehension started
shifting into a bit of excitement. “Are you done unpacking?
Should we go see what people are doing then?”
