Runner blinks his eyes for a moment as he teleports to the
clearing. All around him is absolute mayhem, a war between
nature and machine, he hated it. If they fell here, there
wouldn't be much left defending Ponyville. Before he can say
anything, Azure takes off. "LISTEN UP EVERYPONY! We have a
chance to stop all of this. Everyone needs to keep the smaller
timberwolves off that pony long enough to take down the Alpha!
Ooh-rah!" he yells out to the soldiers. All around they yell out
ooh-rah before going back to their fight, reinvigorated by the
music.
At this, Runner runs up to the two civvies. "You two need to go
now! There is a base not too far from here to the East. I need
you both to go there and get more help. Go, NOW!" he orders the
two, before fighting off a nearby timberwolf from getting to the
two. "GO, before we're overrun!" he yells back to the two as he
pushes the timberwolf off and fills it with bullets, ripping it
apart.

Azure cuts right through the middle of the clearing, deftly
weaving to and fro between soldiers and Timberwolves alike as
she quickly approaches her target, keeping off the ground just
high enough to avoid most of the conflict. At this point, it was
all or nothing, and Azure couldn't afford to fail... The Alpha
only seemed to grow in size as she closes the distance,
continuing to bat away at Trail Blazer's soldiers as if they
were just mere flies. Its large, sharpened claws are the least
of her worries; with some nimble flying, Azure could easily
out-maneuver it's rather slow, predictable swipes. Its gaping
maw, however, was a different story, considering that she needed
to be literally face to face with the beast to guarantee a solid
hit. And then there was her concern with the other
Timberwolves... Even if one of the beasts broke off from the
main group during her attempt on the Alpha, it could very well
end in disaster.
But the time of worrisome thoughts have already passed. Azure
trusted Trail Blazer and his group, and, at least for the time
being, the Sergeant trusted her. Just a few seconds is all she
needs.
The Alpha shifts, training its deep, emerald gaze right on the
mare as she swoops in within range. Calling it big would have
been quite the understatement... Its gnarled, bent and crooked
figure was composed not of twigs and branches like its brethren,
but of entire trees. Sharpened rock and stone shaped its fangs
and claws, almost glistening to a keen edge. The thick, bound
wood seemed to groan and protest with every movement as the
Alpha winds up for a predictable swipe, whiffing right over
Azure as she banks hard to the side. She circles around the
Alpha, studying it for a moment as she baits out its cumbersome
attacks and slowly turns it around, pointing it away from the
entire group. Agitated, the beast howls, attracting the
attention of some nearby Timberwolves as they hurdle over
soldiers in an attempt to protect their Alpha. Not but a mere
moment later, the Timberwolves were blasted down, flanked from
all sides as soldiers closed in from the trees. Even in dire
straights, the Sergeant's forces still followed orders
flawlessly, giving Azure ample time to hold up her end.
Another swipe, another miss, but this time, Azure pulls up right
in front of its head. A dangerous place... The Alpha glares at
the mare, perhaps weighing its options before lunging at her
with its maw. Another predictable move, but quicker than
anticipated as Azure nearly gets herself caught. It was a
dangerous game, and under normal circumstances, Azure would have
to whittle its energy away bit by bit before closing in like
this... But this was far from normal circumstances. "Stay...
right... there," she mutters under her breath, keeping just out
of range of its jaws as she takes a deep breath. Keeping her own
gaze trained diligently on the Alpha, she starts an incantation,
producing a faint, purple aura as she gathers energy around her
horn, now plainly visible as it gives her an appearance somewhat
similar to an Alicorn.

It wasn’t working. It wasn’t working. Very slowly, Dakota
lowered the flute, her breath ragged. She gave both Fluttershy
and Runner a long look as they spoke, her gaze empty. Finally,
she just gave a small, defeated nod, and returned her flute to
her saddlebags before dropping to all four hooves again. She
swallowed. She couldn’t think about what she had done, not right
now. “Let’s get to that base,” she finally said to Fluttershy,
practically having to yell over the chaotic noise of the battle.
Her voice was exhausted, eyes half-closed as she fought against
the wooziness from the blood she had lost. With that, she turned
and started heading east, stumbling slightly every few steps.

Fluttershy was still looking at the wolves. She really couldn't
get through to them. The gunfire was too distracting as she
followed Dakota into the woods. Once they were at a safe
distance she had to catch her breath.
"I... Can help you trot if you need." She was panting.

The sergeant and the EQUINOX soldiers were all putting up a good
fight, but it was a slowly losing battle. Although invigorated
by the music before, they all seemed to lose that boost of
energy, their ammo was starting to run out, and more
timberwolves seemed to be coming from no where as soon as one
was shot down. Slowly but surely, timberwolves and soldiers
alike started to fall, either from exhaustion, passing out from
their injuries, or even dying, but the timberwolves were
starting to get the upper hand. Runner dropped another empty
magazine before reloading again. "Last mag! I'm gonna run out in
a minute!" he yells out to the other soldiers as he burst-fires
another timberwolf into submission with his ARX-160. "You might
want to hurry up there! We can't keep this up forever!" he yells
to Azure.

Azure couldn't help but wince as the Sergeant's words barely
reached her over the chaos and the gunfire. One minute should be
more than plenty...
The purple aura seemed to confuse the Alpha... Its instincts and
sheer ferocity would simply cry out to seize the moment and
strike, but the beast just stalled, gnashing its teeth ever
closer to the mare. Perhaps it could sense the potent magic that
Azure was emitting... Perhaps, in its limited intelligence, the
beast was trying to figure out what she was or what she was
doing. Perhaps... It was recalling a memory of some time past,
like this has all happened before. Whatever the case may be, the
Alpha stalled just long enough for Azure to complete her spell.
In a flash, Azure's aura expands, physically manifesting itself
into a spear of pure, purple light that towered threateningly
over the beast. In an instant, Azure hurls the spear straight
down into the Alpha's neck, tearing its bark and stone asunder
as its entire, twisted body jerks violently into the ground.
Without as much as a sound, the beast dissolves into dust,
silently whisking away as Azure's weapon fades, leaving behind a
sickeningly black lodestone in its wake. With the Alpha's
control broken, the other Timberwolves stop in their tracks.
Seemingly puzzled by the aftermath, the remainder of the
creatures simply turned and lumbered slowly away into the
forest's depths, paying no mind to soldier or fallen brethren
alike.
Completely drained of energy, Azure was forced to drop her
Pegasus disguise... Panting for breath, the mare hovers over the
lodestone and looks over the field for survivors.

“No, I’m fi- wait. Do you hear that?” Dakota looked over her
shoulder. “The noise… it’s gone. You don’t think they were all…
all…” The pegasus couldn’t bring herself to say the world
“killed”. “We have to go back, we have to check to see if
everything okay…” Dakota slurred, then turned right back around
and headed back towards the clearing, not even checking if the
other mare was following.
Dakota reached the clearing and stopped dead when she realized
that the timberwolves were gone. She looked over to see a rather
odd-looking pony hovering over what appeared to be a large black
stone. “What… what happened?” She called to the changeling.

"Wait I don't thin thats-Oh no..." Fluttershy hurried after
Dakota. When she reached the old area too, she fell silent as
well as she tried to process what had just happened. "D-d-did
you..." She couldn't even bring herself to finish the sentence.

The next few moments of combat seem to go by in a blur in
Runner's eyes. One moment he's cutting down a timberwolf before
running out of ammo, the next moment he finds himself pinned to
a tree by a timberwolf, its green eyes piercing into his own,
its jagged stone teeth inches away from his face, while he tries
to free himself of its grasp, as well as trying to pull out his
sidearm. Right before the timberwolf can end Runner's life, he
hears the sound of what appears to be a tree slowly imploding,
bark and wood being ripped apart before everything goes flying.
Right at that moment, the timberwolf gets off him, and walks
off, along with the rest of the pack. Runner pants for breath as
he looks down. His right forehoof and backhoof are obviously
broken, he also has several wounds, blood slowly pouring out of
them. He needed help of he was dead. Before he passes out, he
sees a Changeling where Azure was a moment ago, but he knows its
her. "You're... a changeling..." he manages to mutter before
darkness fills his vision.
All throughout the clearing, there lies the victorious, yet
badly beaten and battered EQUINOX soldiers. Many lay horribly
injured, some of them had died from their wounds. Of the roughly
22 that went and fought, 8 of them were killed in battle.
Ranger, Tracker, and Runner are still alove, but gravely wounded
and need medical attention immediately, along with the 11 other
soldiers who also were injured.

"What... A... Mess..."
Azure continues to pant heavily, lowering herself down to the
ground with a soft thud of her hooves as she moves to scoop up
the lodestone. In its current state, the stone looked completely
unnatural- scorched and tainted black by a malevolent magic.
Azure suddenly felt uneasy... This was certainly no accident.
Bits of her memory over the course of the night slowly returned
as she envisioned her brawl with one of the hell-hounds. The
stone she had received from its broken form was equally
tainted... Controlled... Possibly by the same brand of magic
currently locked within the stone she holds now. Perhaps...
Perhaps Azure herself was controlled? The Changeling frowns,
examining the stone before bringing her sharp, violet eyes to
the attention of the two civilians that came rushing in after
the climax.
"Cut off the head of the snake, and its body soon dies," Azure
speaks between ragged breaths, regaining her footing as the
Changeling slowly walks up to the pair. "Or, in this case, the
other Timberwolves simply left. Without the Alpha's influence,
the pack regained its freedom and return to their normal lives."
Azure frowns again, looking around the field for any soldiers
that need immediate help. She mumbles under her breath,
realizing the severity of it all... Some were even killed, much
to her dismay. It could have all been avoided. All of it. How
much of it was Azure's fault? How would she even begin to
explain the events which unfolded to present such a tragedy?
Being a protector of Mother Nature imbued by the Earth's own
magic, a Timberwolf can never truly be destroyed. Soldiers, on
the other hoof, are frail and limited; no matter how ferocious
or heroic, they were still mortal. It was a losing battle from
the very start.
Azure shakes her head and tucks the stone underneath one of her
wings, trotting over to pick up Runner's radio before turning
back to the two civilians. "Listen, we'll worry about all of
this later. I need you two to run and get help." The Changeling
points in the direction they just came from. "Head East. There
should be a base nearby. Gather up everypony you can muster.
I'll call on the radio and stabilize as many as I can."
The mare leans down next to Runner, her horn emitting a soft,
purple light as she begins to patch him up... Or at least try to
with her limited experience with healing magic. Anything is
better than nothing at this point. "Control, this is Azure
Karla," she speaks firmly, praying that the radio was on the
correct channel. "We need medical assistance ASAP. About a dozen
critically injured. Others are KIA. I repeat, immediate medical
assistance is needed. We're located in a small clearing West of
the makeshift base by the forest."
